  • Our friend Dane is here today to go over the 5.3 LS engine that we have in the 1955 Mercury. He got us to order a bunch of things that are needed for the engine to run seamlessly; from the ECU, plug and play wiring harness, fuel filter, fuel regulator... the whole nine yards ✅

    Nice to see Dane and hear all about how the engine gets wired, it appears to not be very involved. One of Chads best qualities is he’s always upbeat and willing to learn and if something doesn’t go as planned he adapts and still has a smile on his face. This channel can teach more than car building, it teaches you to have an open mind and learn for the next time too.
    Jolene as always, you do a wonderful job in filming and putting it all together.

    Nice to see y'all brought in a professional that has done the LS SWAP,
    And I like the way Dain said he will guid Chad to do it but won't do it all. That's how you learn by doing if you make mistakes that's okay to. EVERYDAY is a school day Gene Windfild would say.

  • @JimmyMakingitwork

    These swaps are very straight forward and can be done with aftermarket harnesses and modules, or oem used components. My last build was a 49 chevy truck and I used a 5.3/4L60E and the oem harness and PCM I bought it all for $1400, even came with the power steering, water pump and alternator.
    Making the harness work was as simple as peeling off the loom and tape and eliminating circuits not being used, then retaping it. It was in great shape. Used an amber LED for the check engine light.
    This build will be super cool when done!

    Always interesting watching Chad from just down the road in Scotch Village, but I think Dane has the order of the fuel pump and filter/regulator backwards, at 4:05. I've done a couple of LS swaps, and used the same filter, but it's under pressure, with the pump before it, not after. I'm sure they'll sort it out!!! I wonder if in the end Chad will say "LS's are cooler than dang"!!

    Nice! he knows his stuff, no hesitations! This is great, Chad is learning about engines & how to install them! He gives you suggestions,and leaves it up to you! I think you have to nickel weld cast iron! I worked at an iron foundry, and we picked up a lot of free stuff for our cars because we would melt down engine blocks, and had to take all the stuff off that wasn't cast, so if you needed a manifold, you took it before it got melted down! I'm an old school engine guy!

    The "ECU" in this case is actually called a PCM, since it controls both the engine and transmission, so that makes it a Powertrain Control Module. If it controlled only the engine it would be called an ECM, or Engine Control Module. Those vehicles would also need a TCM, for Transmission control. :).

    Yes, have your hole behind the engine towards the left side of the engine, it will hide where it's coming through and then it splits to each side of the engine. The split is for the injectors, knock sensors, mass air flow, altenator. As you start plugging everything in the harness starts to point to where it wants to go, you got this, you do way crazier and harder stuff then running a harness. Bad Chad got this.

    use a baffled gas tank so the pump won’t get starved and lean the engine out. My ls swap has a in-tank fuel pump and it has a filter sock on it at the pick up and then the filter is after that pump next to my fuel tank. I’m using the same filter Dane showed you “corvette style”. There’s a oil pressure sensor on the back on the motor behind the intake which I’m sure you can wire a gauge to it so you don’t have to run oil into the cab through that line.

  • @347charged
    @347charged 2 года назад

    You can get a 25 ft roll of 3/8 nylon line with fitting for that particular fuel filter/regular. Cut the line to fit, push the fittings on and go. It's the same style fittings and lines car makers have been using for years. You can get it all on Amazon, eBay or rockaut. That's what I use on my budget Ls swaps..
