These days, I use Everdrives for SNES, Genesis, NES, N64, and even Neo Geo! Another reason for having all those, is I'm currently getting ready to move out of my group home, and I think I'm very much done for console collecting for the most part, plus as I've mentioned a billion times (it seems heh)I've been preferring ROM hacks, mostly QoL, as well as (for SNES and Genesis)MSU-1 enhanced versions, in fact, I really can't ever play, say, Chrono Trigger or Super Metroid in its "vanilla" versions that are on the Switch Online service, for example.....
Nice! I need to jump onto the Everdrive train. I've always had my eye on them. I also need to play some of these rom hacks you've talked about! They sound amazing!
Of course, with that said(typed?)I'm grateful that the service has made it possible for individuals like Ty(Tynology Gaming)Sally(retroarcadeparty), (Monado)Max, Brittany(Skrillerwolf)(maybe Nettydorko and Liz(gainsexp), to either reexperience these games, or for the first time perhaps! Nowadays I'm mainly wanting to focus on acquiring JAMMA PCBs, and im even looking at whats called the Darksoft CPS3 Capcom Board(or Kit?)which is basically an Arcade CPS3 Everdrive..of sorts..
You're knowledge on gaming is quite astonishing! I've never dipped my toes in the PCB world. It sounds complicated, but very awesome! I'm also glad that people can play these older games online. It makes for great streams!
5:35 Dude, that controller looks awesome. I grew up with a European SNES, and my controllers didn't have the concaves either. Both the non-concaved and concaved controllers are nintendo's own design, and you're playing the games "like they were meant to be played" with both controllers:)
You're right. Nintendo did design both the concave and convex controller buttons. I even said I was nitpicking in the video. No doubt playing with that controller you playing games "like they were meant to be played." We players in North America didn't have the controller with convex buttons. So playing games with the European and Japanese style controller is not the way we grew up playing games. It's different. Unfortunately, Nintendo didn't remake the Super Nintendo controller with the North American concave buttons for the Wii. Thankfully they did for the Switch. In the end I still used the Japanese controller. It was close enough to what I had. I still enjoyed my time with it.
@@NeanderMeander Yeah, well I get it though. You're from the US and maybe even grew up with the console. You'd rather have an American-style controller. It makes sense. I just wanted to clarify that they're both Nintendo original, but you knew that. I have only used a cheap and crappy third party American SNES controller once, so I can't say too much about the controller differences. In general, I like both the American and European/Japanese SNES designs. I might prefer the colour scheme of the EU/Japanese one, but nostalgia probably plays a big part in that too... My brother also have the EU New 3ds xl SNES edition which look absolutely gorgeous! I saw that you had the US version in your 3ds systems' video. What a beauty. I might pick one up in the future, to my wallet's great dismay :D
I'm not shocked by games released buggy anymore except when it's Nintendo. It's unreal how poorly some of these games run on the Switch. I'm thankful I've kept the N64 I bought so long ago if I feel like playing something on it. I most definitely won't be getting this expansion pack. I do feel the 20 bucks a year for online, NES and SNES is a great deal. Glad you are speaking with your wallet until they fix this! =P
It's a shame that it's become normal to expect games to be buggy at launch. I usually wait to buy games until the bugs have been worked out. I normally get them for way less that way too. But yes, I'm holding out on paying for the expansion pack. It really doesn't make sense to pay that much for what is offered right now. I'm sure at some point I will cave and buy into it. But I can wait to play those games. I've waited this long without any issues.
As I've got 2 Arcade Superguns, I've always wanted to have the arcade games I grew up playing! (And yes I've got-apparently-the income to do soas Everdrives(for the foreseeable future) will do me well, as the argument "physical copies on actual hardware" well, I'm 42, and I already own 1,410 games heh, besides the PS5 that I will eventually acquire(and future gens? We'll see.)I'm good on the retro side of things, and I'm not on much socials(compared to 2019, the year of "The Great Social Purge"...ugh, that's all I can come up with? Wow! You have almost 1,500 games! That's amazing! I unfortunately let go of most of my childhood games when I was transitioning to from high school to college. I for some reason thought I was too old for them. It's one of my biggest regrets! I still haven't acquired everything I used to have.
Great video man! I saw your video go up and was worried we were going to say the same thing, but you bring up some much “bigger picture” points that I didn’t think of. The single feature that got me to pull the trigger was playing these games online (without having to jump through hoops) - in particular some of the co-op Genesis games. There’s just no way to do that as easy as it is here. I agree the price increase is not reflective of the benefits (yet) - hopefully they get on it with adding more features/games sooner rather than later!
I can't wait to see your video on it! Being able to play these games online is a big deal, and to be completely honest, I don't have much knowledge on it. So I thought I would leave that out of the video. I also cut a whole section about input lag because I was only going off of what other people were saying. I don't have any experience playing these games online. I think it's a great feature though!
An extra 20$ for a bunch of n64 games and Sega games? No question it's worth it. But, that's coming from someone who hasnt seen/played these games very much when I was kid. For people who had already bought/emulated these games, maybe it's not so worth it.
I agree with you. If you’ve never played these games, the extra money is worth it. Though, for me, I’m willing to wait for more games. The Genesis games are great, but can be found elsewhere. I got the Genesis Classic Collection for $15. Even Banjo is on Rare Replay. I think I bought that for like $10. So yes, the Expansion Pack is great! I almost got it a few days ago. Though I know I will eventually buy in. Just not today. Thanks for sticking around and watching my videos!
Nice video! Love the cinematic shots. I would get the expansion pack if it were cheaper. I mean it is a great idea, just a little too much money for me
Great video as always. I agree with you. That animal crossing crap is wasted on someone like me who will never touch the series. That price hike for what you get is ridiculous. Those Genesis games can be played all over the place and the 64 games came out and are in rough shape. The Gamecube and Wii emulation for the N64 is better than this. I just recently had my N64 Rgb modded and region modded by Voultar and currently have it plugged into a G comp sending one signal to a Crt and the other to my Led tv. It really looks better than you would think. I also imported Sin and Punishment. Honestly if you can get past the beginning menus, you can play the whole game with no issue. I recommend my route for any hardcore out there. Casuals are another thong altogether though.
@@NeanderMeander I went to Voultar’s Mod shop online. And selected the service. He includes his board with the service. I mailed it to him and he mailed it back after completing the work. I will say, I waited 5 months though. He is quite popular. I would look into the digital/rgb mod now though. You purchase that board and mail it to him with your 64. I didn’t know about that mod back when I first sent it because it is fairly new but it gives you Rgb Analog out of the multi port but also and an Hdmi out for the best of both worlds. I wish I could have gotten that one but it was too late after I sent everything over.
It really sounds like you have to stretch to come up with any good points for the expansion pack, that are all quickly shot down by the counterpoint of price. Totally not worth more than double the base NSO price JUST for N64 games (and some random dlc for games you might not even play). I would love to see a follow-up to this though, now that GBA games have been added to the service, including online multiplayer. Personally, at the current moment, I still don't think it's worth the price, (especially for me, as I own every released and upcoming game that I want to play on the WiiU), however.. the sight of Kirby and the Amazing Mirror in the upcoming list is quite interesting, as that game is hard to set up good multiplayer for (4 GBA's, plus link cables, plus 4 copies of the game, all in the same room), but with the prospect of online multiplayer, could be worth a try. It also opens the door for some other multiplayer GBA games, and though I have my doubts.. the possibility of GBA Pokemon games being added is too intriguing to ignore. That could *easily* sell the service for some people, though again.. only possible, not plausible, imo. It remains to be seen...
I'm currently making a video that touches on this a little bit. You bring up some good points about the online multiplayer. Hopefully it functions well with those games. I've seen some crazy things with the N64 games. I still haven't paid for the service. Like you, I have almost every game on the list either physically or on my Wii U. The one thing that would probably get me to pay for the service is the convenience of having them all together on the Switch so I wouldn't have to hook up my older console to play them. That hasn't pushed me over the edge yet, and it probably won't. I don't understand why it's so expensive. There's not much there to warrant the price, except again like you said, online multiplayer with GBA games. As for the DLC, the only one I'm interested in is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I'll probably just buy the DLC once and keep it forever instead of rent it every year with the subscription.
@@NeanderMeander Lol much the same for me. Even though I am interested in almost all the dlc on offer, I still preferred to buy them all individually, instead of just "renting" them though the expansion pack. Also not sure if you would be interested (like if your media center is already overcrowded, or power concerns, etc), but there are HDMI switches that can take multiple sources and switch between them to an output device. I'm currently using one to keep my WiiU, Xbox 360, PS3, Gamecube (with HDMI mod) and a Switch dock connected to my main TV. I wouldn't recommend it for any current, modern consoles (anything that can output 4k60fps or higher should probably be hooked up directly), or anything actually retro (like pre-PS2/Gamecube), but for everything in between, it's been perfect. Especially since I often switch between different games across all systems lol

That's awesome and a great idea to save on the Expansion Pack. I guess to do that I'd need some friends first. I really wish Nintendo would roll out more games for it. I'm not sure why they insist on drip-feeding these games out on the service. And yes, that is a bummer that you don't get to keep the DLC for that price.
I'm kinda in the same boat.... So hyped to play those 64 games on my Switch. I was willing to forgive the price but once I heard of the horrible way they run I just couldn't do it. Those gems deserve better. I'll stick to my N64.
