- Mastery of the basics is what sets professionals apart from the masses. I know everyone already knows how to do "Pew Pew" and want to learn "Advanced Skills" and be Awesome. That's fine, but lets start with a few critical tasks that most don't practice. One of them is switching your rifle from strong side to shooting from your non-dominant side. Switching Shoulders.
We have several videos on how & when to switch shoulders properly, that you can find in our video archive.
We also have a complete list of videos on all our Critical Tasks Evaluations (CTEs) that you can also find there. One of those tests is called "Switching Shoulders El Prez" and requires 12 rifle rounds to shoot. That's a fun test, but it eats a lot of ammo.
So, this week I want to share a shooting drill that I picked up while I was down at the SIG Academy. This is the "Switching Shoulders" Drill and only takes 2 rounds to do. Practice it in both directions.
Hope you enjoy the drill and I hope you enjoyed the video. TR

I lost count of how many times I was told to close my dust cover,
glad to see even Imri forgets from time to time!
Eventually it sinks in. Thanks for watching, TR
You guys were the kick in the butt I needed to start practicing pistol one handed (weak and strong hand) so maybe this will get me going on another skill that I know I need but don’t practice. Good stuff as always 👍🏽
Train, train, and train some more. Thanks for watching, TR
It’s always nice taking a break from the clown world and at the same time preparing to face the ugliest parts of the clown world with quality information
Rainbow clowns are the worst.
A CMMG 22LR conversion kit is an essential piece of gear for AR 15 shooters trying to curb training costs.
I have two but don’t use them much. They are awesome.
Hell yeah this is exactly what I'm taking about. Much respect for these guys serving our country. They're our back bone that we will always need.
I like the "Push" switch personally. Where you switch shoulders, but you still keep your right firing hand on the grip. So you're switching shoulders, but not switching hands.
We use that technique for “quick looks” where you think you are only gonna stay support-side for a couple seconds. However, if you know you are gonna stay support-side for a while (say locking down a alleyway) then it is better to switch both hands. We teach both methods and encourage people to master both techniques. Thanks for watching, TR
@@TacticalRifleman Right on.. I'll practice both. Cheers.
Great drill, thanks gents. BTW I use the CMMG .22lr conversion for my Ar, especially at these ranges. It saves big bucks.
Great to hear!
3:08 he’s got the Samurai placement for the tanto, OG
Awesome I'll give this a try tomorrow. I'm still working on the Catalina wine mixer drill.
Thank you
You're welcome
Another fun and easy drill to work on. I will definitely check and see if I can beat 3.5 seconds. Thanks again as always Gent's, YOU ROCK!
Our pleasure!
Fantastic Video as always. Thank you for pushing us regular folks to do more, and do it better.
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching, TR
great video!! thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I'm left handed. But what is weird, is I shoot pistol with my right hand and shoot rifle with my left. And I use both eyes. No dominant eye. I would love to go shooting, but ammo is still expensive.
Your drills are very practical and realistic. Thank you for great instructions.
Always good knowledge and information.
Glad you think so!
I have one good shoulder I never used for shooting lmao... my left shoulder isn't great but i like shooting in my left best
3:16 it’s not GAY to love Squatch, we all love this tree trunk, DUST COVER, making Dad mad bro
Great stuff. Thanks guys!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your way of not switching hands but switching shoulders is faster by over a second every time. And if don't chicken wing your arm and use the eye that is on the same side as the gun there is literately no more of your body exposed if you were pieing around a corned. Thanks Carl
Body, sure, but your entire arm is hanging out. Swap those hands.

Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
Good stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it
Good training, switching shoulders is vital cqb tip. Thanks 👍
Excellent.
Big thumbs up for 12 o'clock wml
Nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
Great drill and better instruction 😎👍👍🙏🙏
I like it, but maybe add switching back to strong side??
Do both directions.
The first time I ran this drill I was 12ish and the damn squirrel changed direction on the tree. Since I couldn't shoot toward town, I had to switch hands.
My mistake was moving back to NY. I can't even sport shoot anymore or even be able to use these types of weapons aswell. But I'm moving our family far south.
This is something I need to practice a lot more. Thanks, Guys! Karl, is this easier with an ambidextrous safety?
Yes, absolutely
@@TacticalRifleman Thanks!
Great
Like it!
Glad you like it!
Good video. What optic is on the black rifle?
It is the Primary Arms 1x Micro Prism
How do you tackle the eye dominance issue? I can't overcome my right eye dominance when switching to left side without really concentrating on it and/or closing my right eye. I feel like a fish out of water.
Same issue here. I am a lefty with a right eye dominance, and I'm basically seeing double (not literally, just focus loss happens too much) when shooting with IRON SIGHTS. With a red dot it does not happen as much...
You should always be shooting with both eyes open. Only one eye can see the sights. Eye dominance doesn’t matter as much with optics. Practice with the front of the optic taped over. It will force you to use both eyes.
@@TacticalRifleman Roger that. I always shoot with both eyes open. But, the right eye still wants to take over. I'll keep plugging away at it.
@@waterskipilot145I usually just blink my right eye to get my left eye to take over.
On my to do list for the weekend, BTW what holster you using for side arm?
Safariland.
As always 👍🇺🇸
The time depends on a distance to the target, doesn't it?
We standardize this time out to 10 meters. Adjust the time as you see fit.
@@TacticalRifleman thanks, 👍. 10m
As always - right to the point - No BS - practical training . BTW: What muzzle device is Imri running?
It depends what month it is, as he is testing a bunch.
Just curious about both of your sling setups, not so much what you're running but how you're running them and why. Any advantages/disadvantages to running a 2 point sling with the rear anchor at the buttstock versus the rear of the grip. Also, Karl I noticed you've got the rear part of your sling anchored on the right side of the rifle (outside for a right hand shooter), is there any reason you like it that way over having it anchored on the left/inside?
We have other videos about slings that you can find in our video archive; but basically your sling setup should match how you fight with a gun. Notice I said “fight” rather than “shoot”. During CQB, most threats do NOT warrant death force. Rather, you have to go hands on. By having the sling anchored closer to center, it is easier to maneuver the rifle to conduct different strikes. Again, you can find more sling videos in our video archive. Thanks for watching, TR
@@TacticalRifleman Roger that. I'll dig around the archive see what I can find. Thank you sir for the explanation
I’m a left handed shooter that was stupid and bought a bullpup shotgun without thinking about it so I’m gonna try my right shoulder but when I shoulder a gun on my right it just doesn’t feel right it feels like it’s on bone or something
It will take a lot of repetitions for you to build new muscle memory on that right side. Stick to it, and keep practicing. TR
i have a silly question:
why not just switch shoulder without changing hands?
keep the hands where they are, just move the rifle to other shoulder.
That is fine for a “quick look “ and we do also teach that technique. However, you can not manage recoil as well.
@@TacticalRifleman ah, Thank you for the answer, sir.
Better than Joe Rogan
Never finished
👍👍
I've always liked training to be ambidextrously proficient.
Still waiting for my TR1, and very little communication from the company . 😡
Sorry brother, I feel your pain. I too am waiting on a TR-1.
@@TacticalRifleman I ordered mine last April. I was told in October that they should be shipped within 6 weeks. Then I was told in December that there were less than 50 left to be built. I’m still waiting and they don’t answer my inquiries anymore.
Frank, I told them to quit taking orders, and that I wanted the LAST one built. Once all the orders are filled, and I get mine, there will be no more TR-1s with Tactical Edge. It is still the BEST rifle I have ever used and it will be worth the wait. However, this customer service and time delay is bullshit. I am so sorry that you had to go through this, and I hate that it effects my reputation. TR
@@TacticalRifleman I thought you got the first one! I know they are a small company but they need somebody to answer emails. I told them that if they can’t fill the order they just need to cancel it and refund the money. Thanks for listening to my rant! Hope you get yours soon.
I did get the first one, and love it. I also want the LAST one, as a spare, and so I KNOW everyone else has gotten their's and the saga is over with. I hate how much this has damaged MY name.

1st fookers!!!
Can't u just paintball it
Close that dust cover? Cringe 🥴
Good drill. Switching shoulders is about only time I prefer a single point sling.
Does time increase as you move out to 25/50/100 yards?
You can adjust it as you see fit.
