Indeed, but what's especially intriguing to me as a fellow songwriter is John's ability to get you to VISUALIZE the psychedelic imagery in your own mind's eye just from his descriptive lyrics. Something similar was achieved by Van Dyck Parks with his run-on imagery lyrics for "Surf's Up" as recorded by The Beach Boys and again by Brian Wilson and Band for the completed SMiLE album released in 2004, although VDP's lyrics are more like encoded Salvador Dali riddles that can be deciphered with further thought; John's lyrics don't require 'solving the riddles.' Most everyone understands universally descriptive lyrics describing 'realism' (e.g., "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow') but John's trippy lyrics were more of a gamble at the time this song was recorded/released, and perhaps particularly so in light of his previous and very concrete earlier Beatles song lyrics (e.g., 'You Can't Do That,' and 'Help!'). My favorfite title pun about this song is a photograph of Lucille Ball wearing a diamond necklace and a Mardi Gras mask and the caption reads: "Lucy in Disguise With Diamonds." I was ten when this song was first released and remember excactly where I was when I first heard it on the radio (Robert H. Treman State Park near Ithaca, NY). The harmony Vocal lines make it easy for kids (and everyone else) to sing along with the Chorus and John's chord progression is clever as many of his songs' progressons tend to be (I think here specifically of "Free As A Bird"). The timbres and effects on this recording almost presage the synthesizer era shortly to arrive. The mix which britt2001b has achieved for this song is clear, nicely balanced, and once again each individual part is distinct and entirely audible. If anything, the soundstage sounds even wider than usual and I think this helps. What I hear MORE of with this remix is the fatness of Ringo's Tom Drum, but all elements of the his Drum Kit are just nice and 'present.' I think where this song sounds MORE like the original mix(es), perhaps, than some others presented here is in the treatment of the more novel sounds. The acoustics of the instruments are as good or better than ever, but the more unusual sounds contribute much like they did previously. I wasn't expecting radically different panning, movement around the soundstage, or weirdly augmented echo effects, etc. and am not disappointed by the 'sameness' of the overall sound because I know it is faithful to the original. But I am grateful to hear MORE DETAIL from the original with this remix, which is the general trend and advantage of britt2001b's remixing work. What I especially hear more of is (acoustic?) Guitar strumming mid-left in places and of course John's Lead Vocal is particulary crisp and detailed if not overloud in the new mix. The Organ is fully audible and detailed without predominating. Another fine effort! Thanks for your parody, review and Lucille Ball joke (kind of reminds me of 'Judy In Disguise'). The increased presence and vocal gain that your hearing is due to the Giles mix. I only separated the harmony vocal from the lead, centered the celeste and moved the bass more to center bringing it closer to the kick drum. The isolated bass unfortunately combined with the guitar in some parts of the de-mixing process so to remain consistent with centering the bass I had to increase the gain of the guitar at those parts. I wasn't unhappy with the increased volume of the guitar, to me it made the mix slightly more interesting as I used to play this guitar part in a band many, many years ago. Thanks again!
