  • The health benefits of bay leaf tea and how to use it. [Subtitles]
    In today's video we will explore the benefits of boiling bay leaves, and drinking the liquid. This decoction is known as bay leaves tea and can be used for weight loss, as a sleep aid, relaxation, soothing stomach ulcers, and fighting off infections and diseases.
    In this video we also share a simple bay leaf tea recipe which simply involves boiling 3-5 bay leaves in 1 litre of water for 15 minutes. Bay leaf tea can be drank first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach to enjoy its medicinal benefits. You can also consume this 2-3 times per day to help cleanse the digestive system.

    I am compiling information on Bay for publication. Thank you Ryan for this. It is a very helpful post. I first started to use Bay leaves in the mid 1970's when a friend came to visit who had a horrible cough. I had just bought Culpeppers Complete Herbal and he recommended Bay. I washed a dried leaf and told my friend to suck it. He coughed once after sucking the leaf for a few seconds and then his cough completely disappeared. I carry Bay leaves with me now because I can have an allergic reaction to my mask. Sucking a Bay leaf gives instant relief. Many years later and many stories of Bay curing coughs in my trusting friends and their friends, I was buying a Bay tree for my nephew's birthday present. When I reached the checkout I asked the teller if he knew that Bay leaves will cure coughs. To my surprise he said he did know then added that he was from Mauritius, that everyone on Mauritius knew about Bay leaves and that no one on Mauritius had coughs. I know that you are focusing on the medicinal benefits of Bay leaves but I would like to point to Robert Graves book The White Goddess which is a treatise on poetic and mythical history. In it he describes how the Oracle at Delphi used Bay leaves, quite a lot of them, to inspire her prophetic visions. Bay was so esteemed that heroes were bestowed with a Laurel crown. Hence Poet Laureate. A caution though; this is one of the many herbs which should be avoided during pregnancy but like Raspberry leaves, will help in labour.

    Consider possible side effects for some? In my experience it seems likely that taking bay leaf tea "in excess" possibly has a a neurotoxicity side effect. I really like the taste & trust to the many benefits but I think I overdid it by drinking large quantities day & night with a handful of bay leaves being recycled in successive drinks. (I drink a lot of tea).
    My own reaction was to experience ectopic heart flutter & physical symptoms bordering on muscular tremors in the hands. After stopping my bingeing on bay leaf tea I recovered a normal steady pulse & the tremor-like symptoms disappeared. Although a senior I don't think my experience was an age-related syndrome because the symptoms have now disappeared. In due course I shall resume drinking bay leaf tea - but "in moderation".

    • @simple8mind8
      @simple8mind8 2 года назад +2

      To answer your question.
      While all leaves are indeed unique, there are some that do look remarkably similar.. But Bay leaf, and allspice, are not the same.
      And yes, I can vouch that the images of the leaves in this video are in fact, bay leaves.
      I hope that you try a cup of bay leaf tea, and enjoy the taste, as much as you enjoy the health benefits my friend!
      I enjoy crafting teas myself, and mixing the herbs right from my garden to my cup. That way, you can craft your own unique blend, that is suited to your unique taste palate.
      I enjoy chamomile, lemongrass, lemon balm, basil, mint (sometimes), thyme, and rosemary. Oh and last, but certainly not least, (drum roll please), Sage..!
