Nicely balanced review. Thanks for making and posting.
Best review I’ve seen on the XT5. No techy gobbledygoop and spot on when it comes to the camera’s pros and cons. I just returned my XT5 because of the cons but I’m going to miss the pros. Guess I just want one camera for video and stills. If you’re a still photographer it’s a great camera.
Thank you I really appreciate that. And thanks for watching. I like reviews also without over doing it on the techy stuff. I like reviews where people are using the camera to shoot real stuff, not charts and walls, and impossible shooting situations that no one would ever shoot in.
Couldn't have been more perfect long term review.
Solid review -- really appreciate the effort and thought that went into it. I have the X-S20 and was thinking of going up to the X-T5 for the extra resolution, but I see such mixed reviews it gives me pause.
If you were primarily a still shooter I would definitely say go for it. It is a fantastic still photography camera. For video I've been so used to shooting with Sony cameras that moving to the XT5 feels like a step down when it comes to autofocus but the image quality is still great.
@sabergo1 that is why you don't watch reviews from youtubers.
Best is to take a video of two or three shooters that were really using certain camera, like this gentleman in this video..and make a decision. And this video is just great review of xt5.
Thank you for your presentation.
Thank you to for watching and please subscribe
Great video and audio quality on your video.
Thank you so much I really appreciate it. I needed the kind words today so again thank you and please subscribe.
Good afternoon Larry thanks for showing.
Thanks for watching much appreciated
Easy fix for the handling vertically, or any other way - by a thumb grip!
When it comes to auto focus, it’s best to be using the newer lenses - those with linear motors make a huge difference.
I’ve been shooting with the 16 to 80 and the 70 to 300 and both of those I think are newer lenses.
:::GREAT REVIEW::::
Excellent review. Do you prefer the Canon or Sony for autofocus?
I Prefer Sony for most things but for sports I like Canon it seems to be a bit more sticky. I've been told if I have my settings properly on the Sony that I can get the same autofocus performance shooting sports but I've noticed with Canon it's just easier to get everything set up and running smoothly. With that said I will say Sony is my primary system.
Did you check the mic settings? for af to work great and better you need to set it as per your requirement, same with the video af. I have 2 xt5s and use it for both pictures and video and havent had any issues as such with af or audio,
Thanks for the comment I really appreciate it. Here’s a problem if you buy a Fuji and you have to learn the system to get the best results versus somebody who buys a Sony or Canon pulls it out of the box and just goes and shoots and gets good results. They’re gonna think Canon and Sony are better. Maybe Fuji simply needs to tune up their cameras, so you can pull it out of the box and make it just work. I will say as much as I love shooting with it. I still think that Canon and Sony’s auto focus, especially in video, is just way better.
@@TodayIFeelLike Thats the whole truth other cameras are to easy to use, they come with everyting ready and perfect, best af that doest miss you dont have to stuggle. you get easy shots.
Whats the fun in that? Its a different case with fujfilm cameras which forces users to know and learn things, the dials, the layout, settings,. You need to spend time learning the modes in the camera (fuji) vs the others that shoot easy (auto modes).
Nice video, here are a few comments. (not meant in a bad way).
As a hybrid shooter, it makes little sense to buy a camera that is even labeled by the manufacturer as a photography first camera.
I bet if you would have gotten the XH2 (this body is more for big hands
I know the problem myself) but also has a whole lot more video features, you would have had more fun. The price difference is very marginal between the two models.
Especially since the XH2 also has 40 MP. You just lose the retro style.
Autofocus topic: I can't repeat often enough how IMPORTANT the individual autofocus settings are in the corresponding menus. It's not like you can set the "all-round autofocus" like with Canon or something and everything will be fine in the end.
Fuji has put a lot of effort and work into their autofocus, but you have to adjust it to specific situations.
I'm a Canon shooter myself and have a Fuji XH2 (okay the comparison is a bit common to the XT5) but I hardly notice any differences between my Canon AF and the Fuji. If the Canon AF has 100 points, I'm at 90 with the Fuji (to put it simply).
Thanks for watching and for the thoughtful comment. I have heard others say the XH2 is more of a true hybrid camera but I really wanted that retro look. When something looks old and inconsequential people don’t pay attention to it and that is a safety issue when you’re walking around with a couple thousand dollars around your neck. You may be right about having to adjust the focusing system for every specific situation, but that seems like a lot of unnecessary work. I am looking for ways to simplify my workflow from shooting all the way to post production. I don’t wanna make my life more difficult, but I will say my Fuji is a lot of fun to shoot just not for video.
Sounds like the XT5 was the wrong camera for you and the XS20 would have been a better match.
You might be right but I went out and bought an a6700 and have been really happy with it so far in fact I think this might be the best overall camera for anyone. The mix of what you get for the price that you pay is by far the best value out in the market right now
Yeah I agree with this. I’m also a canon shooting and got the xs20. It’s awesome. The grip is extremely good though I did need to add a small rig extension. It’s a crazy good camera for the price.
For a couple hundred dollars more the X-H2 would solve almost all his issues aside from AF perform.
Just want to point out that the clip you showed as an example of the autofocus being bad, the clip where you’re zooming in towards a sign, the hunting that the AF is doing there is because the lens is not a parfocal lens (it was the 70-300 right?) and the camera is trying to compensate for that with the AF motor while you zoom in. A parfocal lens would not have this issue. It’s just not a great visual example of the poor AF performance of the camera. I do agree with you though, the AF Is not amazing. I shoot birds sometimes with mine and it struggles.
First thanks for watching. I would agree with you about the parafocal thing but my Sony and Canon camera can handle that shot and the lens I’m using for those cameras are not parafocal either. Fuji just needs to work on their autofocus because it could be great.
WHAT MIC
may be mic
Nice review Larry. I’ve been thinking about getting Fuji X-H2 which has similar internals and same sensor. I’m just worried about the autofocus not being reliable. Just wondering, did you have the latest firmware on it?
I did I updated the firmware mid review and I didn't notice a major difference. Here's the thing if you're not coming from another system the autofocus might seem fine to you but if you're coming from Sony or Canon and you realize what good autofocusing is and can be and then you go to Fuji you're likely going to be disappointed.
@@TodayIFeelLike okay 👌. Thank you.
@@fotofx9589i come from sony most modern autofocus and xh2 is really good for all situations. Even shot sports and tracking was amazing. Heard the xh2s version is even better
The deal breaker for me. The autofocus performance compare to sony. About to get A6700 later
Yeah that's what I ended up buying and it's one of the best cameras I have ever owned.
And Brother Malcom makes an appearance 08:05
Hahaha 😂 you caught that keen eye. 🤓
