Bava's scene composition and lighting are impeccable here. On a minor budget he's creating masterpieces. No one has done more with less IMHO. Maybe Jean Cocteau...or George Romero.
My favourite Bava giallo and also, as you said, one of the best of them all. Love the colours, the killer's look, the kills, and the direction. Great achievement.
Thank you for your review, Graham, this might be my favorite in the genre. Something about the saturation of color, but also the early 60's aesthetic, if that makes sense, makes this one stand out. This looks like a fantastic set, as well.
You have fantastic taste in movies / films. There is so much to say about how perfect this movie is, and especially this restoration where the color really pops! Thank-you for your commentary.
Many thanks for a great review, just ordered this. B&BL was the first giallo I saw and what got me hooked on the genre some 10 years ago. 150+ gialli later it's probably still my favorite. I thought the 2015 release looked great but I was a little disappointed with the 1.66 aspect ratio, so looking forward to seeing it in 1.85.
A stone cold classic this one! Have seen it a bunch of times, but it never fails to impress me. It is so wonderfully atmospheric but also his use of colour, lightning and sense of suspense is at full display here and indeed one of the great giallo films. I'm planning to do a gialloween movie marathon in the final weekend of october and this will most likely be one of the picks to watch.
Well, since I've seen around 100 giallo films at this point it is kind of tough to find new interesting ones as I've basically seen all the great classics in the genre, but I'll try and find some more obscure titles (Naked Girl Killed in the Park looks really cool). I do love to re-watch these films though so for sure one or two Argento's (my personal favourite is The Bird with the Crystal Plumage) and I also adore Sergio Martino's films. I do have to add that thanks to your channel I got to watch Blazing Magnum for the first time the other day and that was awesome, really fun mix of police action and giallo! So thanks again and keep up the great work!@@manvfilm
I have the old Arrow release and have seen it but only once a couple years ago. Trying to be strong and not upgrade everything but your review is tempting me with this one. I do love 4K and Arrow are always doing a great job.
Well Graham you’ve come to some of my favourite content for all time so I can only gush about this title and the genre in general. So, no brainer highly highly recommended even if tackling this genre for the first time it’s the bench mark in the tropes and everything that followed…
@@manvfilm can’t argue over his best but his skill set shined in Black Sunday in terms of B&W cinematography a truly gothic staple of the genre! Can’t think of a better blend of horror and beauty with Mario Bava’s Black Sunday

Bava is the master of Gialli and this is one of his best. I've got to get this on UHD. 😊
One of THE all-time greats! I don’t know how many times that I have re-bought this one! 😂
👍
Hoping this is the last!

My copy is in the mail (I'm in Canada) and I'm really looking forward to receiving it. This is definitely one of the top releases of the year. 👍
It looks so good on 4K as well. I hope it gets there fast.

What else do you have ready for the gialli marathon

Well the extras being exactly the same with nothing new helps to curb that NEED to upgrade.
Woke up Friday to a nice £5 off code from Amazon! It was this or the Psycho set, Blood and Black Lace won! Definitely top 5 Bava
Well I just finished of the psycho discs today and that is a bloody great set as well!
Still wanted but spent too much recently, hope it doesn't sell out fast.
I’ve pre-ordered the new release. But it’s arriving whilst I’m on holiday. SO desperate to watch it 😭
I hate when that happens

Completely agree, it’s the fully formed pinnacle of gialli.
00:24 Good stuff, keep it up!
This is the only Baba film that I have seen! and I love it. Which another Baba film could you recommend?
Black Sunday hands down! Check it out please!! ❤
Oh I’d go for Black Sabbath, black Sunday, bay of blood and Kill baby kill.
