Brexit marks the end of UK economic relevance on the world stage. Shrinking population. Trade barriers. Lack of free movement. UK's economy will be smaller than Italy's economy before 2030, smaller than Poland's by 2040.
As an American, Brexit was the primary reason I chose to move to a different European country even though I had a boyfriend in London at the time I moved. I knew what was coming even back in 2019.
That's what happens when you hide behind so called democracy to pass on important International political decisions to the public voting. That's what experts, bureaucracy, elected politicians are for. But they decided to avoid accountability for a massive f******. They knew from the start that this would be an unwise decision, they used it for political gain, and now have the ability to say this is what the people wanted.
A blind dog in the street could tell you it's a mistake, but then we have the DUP who still think it's a great thing & it's the protocol that's the problem!
The DUP were petrified that being in the EU would bring ROI and NI citizens closer together, eroding the demonisation of the Republic which has been the raison d'être of the Party since its birth. They won Brexit, but the GFA was endangered, so for the sake of national security (and because the US were co-signatories and extremely concerned) an arrangement had to be devised to prevent the return of a "hard border" on the island of Ireland. The Protocol effectively keeps NI in the Single Market, meaning that NI has consistently outperformed England, Scotland and Wales. That has demonstrated to the people of NI that membership of the EU is essential for peak economic development and growth. It has also, from what I have read, fostered and maintained a warm coexistence between the citizens of NI and ROI. That is anathema to Unionists. They want to brainwash the people into seeing the Republic as a Catholic theocratic dictatorship, and the UK as a proud, sovereign and beneficial shelter and home
It was about tax dodging Sam, the people who drove it are al involved in tax avoidance They were smart and used the xenophobic racist types to shamelessly get it over the line These dodgy characters have made billions

@@greendsnow The point is when I look for work I only have one country to pick from. The UK used to have many but now, like us, they only have one. Why they would give that up is unfathomable.
And Britain had the loudest voice. Most of those regulations the Tory right wants to burn were put in place at the suggestion, and with the backing of Thatcher and Major
It's a sobering thought that if she had been around nowadays Thatcher would not be elected as party leader. She wouldn't even get a cabinet position because she wouldn't be right wing enough. She'd be seen as a liberal Remainer.
We'd had enough of experts. Now it's the turn of the financial vultures, picking over the carcass of an austerity-impoverished economy. Britain is broken.
This is what those financial vultures setup. They want this style of business. The EU was a hinderance to this style of behaviour. We have some old school disaster capitalists that really got kneecapped in the modern world. They want to be able to play those games again .

So demand a general election. Vote Lib Dem or green. Have the government then apologize gracefully and humbly and rejoin. Hurry up before the Scots leave.
I love the whole "alignment" argument. Basically we want to sell stuff to people who won't buy it because it doesn't meet their standards. What are we going to do, shout at them until they change all their rules?
😖Indeed, but unfortunately I know of one person who is THE EXPERT in shouting at those he dislikes. Particularly from beaches. Against HM Coastguard and the RNLI.

You forget one thing: Had the UK remained, the majority of the UK population would not have appreciated that a good portion of their prosperity came to them because of the EU. They never would have bothered to know that. Now they are finding it out. That is the School of Hard Knocks.
That was where the Remain campaign went terribly wrong. They needed to realise that often it is not what is said but the way that it is said that is important. All the talk of doom and fear if we left the EU may have been factually correct but it was not the way to sell remaining in the EU. The campaign should have been about the benefits that we received from the EU, had this been done the vote may well have had a different result.
Unfortunately there is a large degree of truth in what you say. Tabloid media and extreme right and left wing propaganda have pursued an anti-EU agenda of lies, misinformation and deliberate omission for decades. As someone who lives in Mainland Europe, I've often noticed all the EU signage on display, informing the public whenever EU funding has been used to support public projects. In contrast, I've never seen any such signage in the UK, giving the lie that the EU did nothing for Britain. No wonder people believed membership of the EU did little or nothing for Britain. My heart bleeds when I look at what Brexit has done to the UK.
The EU will not want us back now. They didn't want the UK to leave at first, but a year or two into the negotiations the EU were sick and tired of negotiating with stupid Tories that demanmded the impossible and would not accept antthing reasonable. The EU has enough problems of it's own these days the last thing they need is to start talking to the UK again about rejoining.
As an outsider looking in who only developed an interest in UK politics Post 2016 as I was intrigued to to find out what drove this act of self harm, I believe as long as the current crop of political lightweights and the print media enablers are in charge the UK will never be allowed rejoin and definitely not with the sweetheart deal they walked away from

They will have to accept the Euro, accept schengen and if it depended on me, drive on the right side of the road too!.
Hello Rob and my dear British friends. I am a Belgian citizen and saw UK leaving the E.U. with a lot of sadness. People didn't need to be economical experts to understand what would happen with the economy in the UK. It was all written in the stars; people just had to raise their nose to the sky to see all that would happen. Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage statements (lies ?) were those that did put UK in danger. And you know, all that would have happenned without Covid and the current Worldwide economical crisis. Those two are just accelerators to something that would have happened anyway. I can understand the majority of UK citizens being willing to rejoin the E.U. Note that I consider intelligence is related to putting yourselves in shoes of the other side. So, put yourself a second in the shoes of the current E.U. people. Do you remember these old days where Maggie Tatcher said to Europe "I want my money back !" ? In the current days, with this Brexit story, I can tell you that the E.U politicians consider UK can't be trusted anymore, hence there is no eagerness on E.U. side to accept UK would rejoin. This lack of trust is absolutely not related to the UK citizens, it is related to a handful of UK politicians who do think about their personal interest and nothing else. Best proof for this is that one of these guys even became your Prime Minister ! Now, this being said, we also have such guys focused on their navel more than on their citizen's concerns. Today, the whole E.U. is focused on the current crisis and not on the Brexit anymore. The Brexit chapter is closed now on the E.U. side. You were forced to listen to so many lies and I don't want to disappoint you, but you deserve the truth; how painful this may sound. I will not lie to you; many people in our countries suffer too, but I believe much less than you, my UK friends. Wishing you all the best and hope you will all survive to this low quality political drama.
As a Dutchman I completely agree with this comment. It will take at least two generations for the UK to be allowed to rejoin. And in order to gain the acceptance of the EU states, concessions will have to be made. To mention one example, remember the concession that Spain did to the UK regarding Gibraltar when joining the EU? Well, now the tables have turned.
Also a Belgian here ... I liked to buy a lot from the UK, especially from small companies/shops that sold stuff that were typically British. Since Brexit, that is now end of story. Especially for cheap items, you pay an enormous import fee : the administrative cost is around 15 euro and then you still have to pay the taxes. So if you buy something for 5 euro, add 5 euro transport costs, then you end up paying something like 28 euro in total. Mind you, the product itself costs only 5 euro. I bought one product after Brexit from the UK, never again ... The big companies don't care, they have stores in the EU or move their complete business to the EU. The small shops, exactly those that are really unique for the UK and promote/export the British culture, those are the biggest victims. Nevertheless, I was happy when the UK left the EU, and I'm still happy they did. The UK was blocking a lot of proposals, so that the EU became more and more stagnant. And people like Farage, backed by Murdock who thrives on chaos, those people really poisoned the EU. I'm glad we got rid of those people. So if the UK would want to rejoin the EU, I would vote against. Not because I don't like the UK and its people, in contrary, but I don't want the negative influence of the UK politics back in the EU.
As a German I also agree and I was sad seeing Britan leave the EU. I hope for my British friends that they find a better and less costly way of dealing with it.
@Marc Maillet the older voters wanted closed borders too. They were told lies by Garage and Johnson. They made decisions that are now impacting their children and grandchildren lives. The EU must never take them back. They wanted to leave so let them stay out.
@@SurfinScientist the UK messed up big time. I can remember they begged Scotland not to leave the union. Then they voted to leave the EU. This is called betrayal. Let them live by themselves.

And then you wonder why the same rules that the UK itself wanted to exclude third countries now have to be applied to the UK because the UK is now a third country.A logical consequence of Brexit that every freshman economics student knows. May you overcome this disaster! Many greetings from Germany.

Even the Lib-Dems play their part as they are glued on the Brexit fence. Lib-Dems and Labour are brushing Brexit under the carpet. Check out labour and Lib-Dem websites neither even mention Brexit! Just search ' Brexit ' nothing ,zero ,no results! That's how pathetic both Labour and Lib-Dem are ! They are playing their part in this deception!
Except that it isn't. Labour supported Brexit in parliament and has never clearly opposed it. Even now Labour is trying to deceive its support base by avoiding any criticism of Brexit, and by sitting-on-the-fence rhetoric. Overall opinion: Brexit is a good thing because both major parties support it. Only a few remoaners criticise it.
exactly, and Cameron never stood up for the EU because if he did he would have to admit that it was the Tories who screwed the public services and not the EU citizens who had moved here. In fact the EU citizens in the UK were younger and healthier and paid full taxes without using the public services that they were actually contributing towards.
It was a very big mistake and in particular when Scotland and Ireland voted against it but our vote was disregarded. We could see Brexit was going to be a disaster yet England and Wales were happy to vote for it. It was farage who was a main driving force for Brexit which makes him just as culpable for the debacle...
Good evening Brian, greetings from Germany near Cologne. It's absolutely ridiculous. Farage is giving speeches, applause, applause... He even spoke in Australia (of course, not for free). He is mainly blaming the Conservatives who do not deliver Brexit, have made a mess of it, have not achieved to give to the people the benefits of Brexit...etc. Short: Brexit is a success but the politicians are failing. Now he calls himself as "The Bogey Man" For years I have analyzed his interviews and videos. It's not so important what he says, but what he doesn't say. I'll give you one example from many. First: The UK will remain an attractive market: 63 million people, that's great. And an enterprise (GIRA) from my neighbouring town (Radevormwald, Google Earth) has opened a new branch in the UK. Nissan decided to stay in Sunderland. It's great and it helps the hard working people there. Congratulations from my side, but it is basically a Status Quo situation. Farage: "Nissan is staying, all this scaremongering that after Brexit companies would leave the UK." - So far, so good - BUT, he didn't mention that Brexit could not prevent that Ford left and will manufacture its e-cars in Cologne. Particularly embarrassing: His Brexit donating friend Ratcliff has shifted the manufacturing of the latest Grenadier Model from Wales to Hambach/France, arguing "The French offer was too favourable." I can give more examples, but you are polite and wish me a good night.

Farage: "Nissan is staying, all this scaremongering that after Brexit companies would leave the UK." - So far, so good -
BUT, he didn't mention that Brexit could not prevent that Ford left and will manufacture its e-cars in Cologne.
Particularly embarrassing: His Brexit donating friend Ratcliff has shifted the manufacturing of the latest Grenadier Model from Wales to Hambach/France, arguing "The French offer was too favourable."
I can give more examples, but you are polite and wish me a good night.
Farage who secured German passports for his family the moment brexkt became real
@@stevecarter8810 Hi Steve, I'm German. His children have a German mother, therefore it's O.K.
But he also tried to get a German passport which has been refused.
@@godehardbrysch7905 oh, that's cheered me up! Thanks for the small good news
@@qanon_qanon Some who did not support Brexit are rich, too. Whenever I come to the UK I see immensely rich people, must be at least 52%.
I could’ve told them it was a mistake but I’m just a nobody in Oakland, California USA
A democracy allows one to challenge the status quo. What is wrong with the Brexit and Lexiteer crowd that they believe that is morally wrong to want to overthrow Brexit.
"A democracy allows one to challenge the status quo"
Except if you are Scottish and are not allowed a vote for independence!
What's wrong is the cult of brexit says no
Infidel !! 😁
There’s no “overthrowing” Brexit anymore, the damage is done and there’s no quick fix
Scared shitless, because their non-democratically won situation is about to implode, never to return again.
Well said, Ireland is booming with corporation tax revenues at record levels. Swallow your pride and rejoin the eu. Even northern Ireland is doing well . David McCabe dublin
Well said David. The Irish joke has now reversed. Did you hear the one anout the thick Englishman? He voted for brexit!
You made your bed, now lie in it….I’ve always thought that Brexit was a boo-boo and now my thoughts are being vindicated. Sitting here in Australia, even blind Freddie could see that this Brexit thing would cause some harm…..but, what do I know???…
Brexit has been the most devastating event that has befallen this country since the war!
Brexit is the result of two things: racism and the believe that GB is greater and more powerful than it actually is... superb. There it is: racism and superb. Just remember, there are ex-rich countries. Don’t cry for me Argentina.
Months later the geese and turkeys couldn't help to recognize that voting for christmas wasn't such a good idea after all. Upsi!
@@qanon_qanon If the current politics is derived from your culture, you should make some serious efforts to change both. Not culture will determine what you eat for christmas, but what's on offer and what you can afford.
As a Belgian and music lover (mostly jazz) I used to buy almost all my cd's in the UK (more choice) on Amazon, Ebay, Discogs. After the Brexit I had to pay customs fees: for 1 cd it was about 15-20 £. So now I have to search elsewhere and I can tell you it's even cheaper now to buy a cd in Russia than in the UK. Well done Brexit voters.
Rob, I‘m really sorry, but I don‘t think that you will see the UK rejoin the EU in your remaining lifetime. That EU ship has sailed and is now very far away and won‘t come back.
nothing lasts forever
That may be true but we can still set sail to follow its course.
@@JoButterwick - We gotta hijack the ship , first ! And then clear out the bilges , "once and for all" as it were 😊

Brexit is so f*king funny. Laughing my eyes out. Love the tears of regret.
I was very sad when UK left the EU (I am German who spent much time in the UK). The feelings against us with the incendiary talk by Johnson, Farage and others, meant most of my customers abandoned me in those days of hate speech. I never have gone back to the UK where I contributed since I spent quite a bit of money there. Bet you Farage and Johnson are not short of a bob. Follow the money.
I hope UK never come back to EU.
So much for £350/Week to the NHS, but then all the intelligent people knew that it was all Lies…… Thanks Rob always look forward to your Videos.
🤭 350 million per week you mean 🎉
They all but admitted it before the counting was even finished.
Huge majority now accepts reality
its nice to see that the uk can still learn the hard way, now we have regret its really good that the eu has no control over the joining process and the english can just decide rejoin.
brexit is for life not just christmas
I live in the EU but I'm originally from Coventry. Older people in Coventry voted leave so the factories which made Hillman Minxes and Triumph Spitfires would magically re-open.
Matches the old saying. "Marry in haste, repent at leisure".. The public's ignorance of the true cost of leaving pre-Brexit, and voting with emotions as the driver, end of story. Tail wagging the dog at it's finest.
If it was up to me, England would not only not EVER gain access to the EU membership (even if it begs on its knees), but I would not allowed it to trade with any EU member again, unless they pay 100% in tarifs for everything they want to sell in the EU market.
Give me one good reason, just one why we should let the UK back into the EU ?
The country doesn’t not have a credit cards it can max out on and you can’t compare the government’s finances with that of a household.
The government can borrow from the bank of England and don't have to pay it back apparently.
The government can afford to squander our money on vanity projects that serve no purpose to the majority in the UK.
The government can afford to pay themselves benefits while earning a good wage.
@Ruth Guthrie was it £10 or £11 billion the government spent on phony PPE just to line the pockets of their friends? Korea offered excellent PPE to Britain but Britain refused. Now, Britain won't pay NHS nurses a survivable wage. General Strike looms. Britain is finished and done easily because Britain never really got started in the first place. Willie the Bastard Conqueror introduced forever Feudalism through monarchical class-system that we live with today and forever more. What genius!
Frosty - wasn't that the ' unelected bureaucrat ' they were talking about who brought the UK to is knees ???
When bigotry and racism happened in the USA, then Civil War happened. In several countries over the last two centuries this has happened. Belatedly it happened in an island country of Europe. It was an out-layer with no easy transit. Blame was proffered by them that "those people" were taking something that they did not want to do themselves. Now they do not have the people who they want someone else to do.
When you use the terms 'bigotry' and 'racism' you have already disqualified yourself as hard left woke progressive.
Bigotry and Racism are founding values in the US. We committed genocide on two continents at least to build our wealth. The civil war was the beginning of our weak attempt to come to grips with it. We still struggle and fight our indoctrination.
Tony Danker: "Stopping firms from growing"? Firms have to have a market to grow in!! If a firm wants to grow, then advocating one's employees to vote for a trade barrier between one's customer-base and one's firm, isn't the right road to take!!

I've just received a spousal visa to move to the UK with my British wife. I currently live in Canada. Best I scuttle those plans asap.

England would have the people of Scotland believe we can not leave the UK and join the EU as a new EU member state.
@tomwaller6893
"England would have the people of Scotland believe we can not leave the UK and join the EU as a new EU member state"?
That only works if people in Scotland believe it.
Back in reality, an independent Scotland would be on a greased skid when it comes to EU membership.
@@gloin10 Scotland would be into the EU within a year of realised independence. Entry might even be timed to coincide with independence to prevent any economic slippage.
@@uniteddreamer
"Scotland would be into the EU within a year of realised independence"?
Highly unlikely.
At best, an independent Scotland's EU accession process would probably be around abut the same as Finland's was - two years from application to full membership.
"Entry might even be timed to coincide with independence to prevent any economic slippage"?
Simply NOT possible.
@@gloin10 independence will take a couple of years even after a referendum result. That will give plenty of time for the EU and Scottish government to plan a transition.
@@uniteddreamer
Actually, once independence is a thing, the government of an independent Scotland could sign an Association Agreement with the EU, setting out the terms of trade, visa-free access for Scots, etc.
Scotland incorporated the 'Acquis Communitaire' into Scottish law in 1972, and updated it constantly until Brixit was committed.
Scotland already meets all the Copenhagen Criteria, with the sole exception of not being an independent, sovereign, state.
An independent Scotland would need some time to deal with currency issues, setting up a central bank, etc, before formally applying for EU membership.
Once the application is made, EU membership should take no more than a couple of years.
