  • Every foot is different so we like coming back to the trimming process as often as possible. After all, the trim is what sets the foundation up whether you put shoes on or leave them barefoot. Bobby Menker shares his perspective and skills while working on the right front of this 13yr old Thoroughbred that is used for trail riding.

Crease nail pullers!! Wow. Those would be so great for my ringbone horse who really hurts when shoes are pulled.

For sure- some farriers use them for every horse.

I have a mare who for some reason, maybe an arabian thing, has a front hoof that grows out in the toe just slightly faster than the rest. Yes, sounds odd but it's the truth. If I let it go too long between farrier visits, she trips on it. I am going to just slightly take the toe back a bit via rasping but would appreciate your advice here. Her high/low is not bad at all; however, I leaved this correction to my farrier. Could you please tell me the direction of rasp? mid rasper to tip in the direction of the toe?

Throw those diamond nippers away and you won't have to use the raft so much

Hi James, The newer models of the Diamond nippers are much better than they have been in years. Of course they are still not at the top end of the market.
