This is turning out to be one of the more interesting rebuild videos on RUclips that I have had the pleasure of watching.
I was watching Project Binki for the last decade but it kinda just fizziled out and didn't really finish. That was just a car and didn't get finished in 10 years much better progress on this one.
Me too !!!
I totally agree 💯 😊
Love it.
Turning out to be???? Where have you been???😂
See you tomorrow.... my 75th birthday! I have survived cancer x 3, radiation, a gall bladder that exploded from stones last year after it shut down my liver ( 2 surgeries in 48 hours) but I am still here, Dan, to watch Chaumont rise again. Bonne Nuit!
Happy Birthday when it comes. Hope you have an illness free year… you surely deserve it. 💐🎂🍸🍾🎉❤
Happy birthday Sue ❤❤ may your year be filled with love and blessings
Happy Birthday Sue love from another Sue 🎉x
Happy Birthday! I turned 75 September last year. You’re going to have a better year now that your health has settled down. (We folks born in the late ‘40s are tough…you’ll be up and ready soon.).
Wow!
From the "For what it's worth" department: Whenever I had a job for whatever kind of wood be it oak or maple or walnut or whatever, I always ordered "rough cut" lumber and then straightened it on the jointer and thickness planed it myself. If you order milled lumber, it's always got a little bow in it or the thickness is slightly different or something is wrong. You have the equipment, so when you make the last run through the planer for a door or window parts, you know they are all going to be exactly the same thickness. It saves a lot of trouble down the road. Sort of like your spending all the time being sure all the floors are on the dot level to save stress later. Also, unless it was a lot of material, I would go to the lumber yard and select all my own lumber in place of having the delivery guy select it for me. He's not the woodworker, you are. If you got a good price on the oak, jump on it and get it sawn down to rough thickness now so it has a chance de-stress before you use it. If you find more deals, get them and you'll want to get a third to half more than you think you will need. Bonne Chance! Jack L.
That's great advice. Always jump on a good price if you can find it. I'm still kicking myself about a stack of teak I didn't buy back in the 90's.
Im loving the slower pace...reminds me more of the old days of Dan alone with his hand crank lift!!!!
That hand crank lift is SO CLEVER!!
@@ellenw1587 and priceless!!! It’s been one of his best purchases!
I think it's safe enough to state: best buy ever made so far!
Preferred the older episodes, one man dedicating his time to an impossible task.
Yours is the best building video on utube! For us who followed you from day one, we know what you went through at the beginning!!
Never a dull moment either. Love the way he presents himself, concisely explains, and the work.
agreed!
Slashing.
It is all looking so good now.
He has come a long way, hasn´t he, from a broken wheelbarrow and a makeshift wonky ramp 😀 And it is so great to watch the chateau changing.
Dan, I think we keep coming back for more, not only to see what's next but to watch You, and how u solve problems! Notching all the boards at once, pushing a steel beam on a small cart! You live by if a job needs done just DO IT !! You are one of a kind!!😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤
Dan the work that you do by yourself is both somewhat scary but so doggone fulfilling to see done! Brian and Nick are missed!
Brian’s vlog is very nice!
Are Nick and Brian not returning to work on the chateau?
Brian and Nick have 2 weeks off and will be back. Brian is sharing his vacay with us on HIS vlog!
Were are Nick and Brian..
I wait for this every day. Been watching since before you started on it. Amazing tenacity
Those French men are legends of France and renovation!
Noggin on heavens door...once again 🎉❤🎉
🤣
Really coming along !
🤣 c'est bien. Clever dad jokes. I LOVE em!!
What a view! Haha, and thanks for introducing humor! Always great to see a new floor. Thanks Dan and all working there!
The stars?

Wow! The stone mason does incredible work! The rest of you do a good job as well.🤗
I am becoming even more fascinated with this rebuild. I’m so glad you’re able to hire help. Makes it safer & more fun for you sharing the process.
The spirit of the chateau knew it would be restored. Was just waiting for you & your team Dan. Looking good.
Aside from watching your daily progress,
My next favorite things to watch is the dogs roaming around, as though they know what needs to get done and they’re supervising that everyone is meeting their goals… 😂😂😂
Thanks to the dogs, everyone is SAFE & SOUND ❤🙏🏽❤️
I'm happier when you get a solid floor in place Dan. I do worry that you'll miss one day and slip through....just being a Mom. There is never a day when you haven't accomplished something, whether you're working alone or with your great team. Love it all!
"obviously, the view is better during the day.." My kind of humour. love it haha
so, dark humor? 😉
@@lauraclark4283 lol good one.
Follow you since early days and you just keep getting better. Awesome work as builder and vlogger! 🇨🇦❤️
It’s amazing how beautiful the house is in profile.
The entire chateau is going to SHINE at the end. All of this is necessary to get the result. We’re here for it all. Wonderful crew, filmed/edits are exceptional, kudos to everyone! Cheers from 🇺🇸
We are also getting more and more excited..just to see that floor down ( yep I remember the toilet) just amazing!
Your videos are something I look forward to watching every afternoon. Your place is going to be spectacular!!
Greetings from Australia. Bloody hell, the stone mason Frenchman are just nothing short of machines. It's good to watch them at work.
One good thing about having 7 doorways in a room is, that you can really pick and choose the layout that suits you best and still say it's true to what once was. Those big arches, in particular, hold so much potential and it's going to be exciting to see what you come up with.
Gaaaaahhh my stomach churns when you balance on those beams… Don’t look down! Congrats to your new room! 👍👏👏👏🏆🥂🥂🥂😊👵🏼🇸🇪
Courage Daniel, make this place YOURS, no fear to redesign it accommodating the zeitgeist, your needs and taste !!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💡
Greetings from Saskatchewan, Canada (AKA Canada's Siberia - forecast for next week is -28C, back to the cold). I have posted before, but I totally agree with the above comment. Do not slavishly replicate what was built in the 1890's. For one thing, technology has changed tremendously and think about the future and the use of Smart Home Technology. I DO like traditional interiors which have stood the test of time, but kitchens and bathrooms need to be au courant!
I mean, I'd like to see it at least reminiscent of its old glory. I would hate to see its old charm scraped away for modern esthetics.

Hallo from Perth WA Australia.
Opposite seasons and opposite 🥶 temperatures!
29°C max today, and 39°C! max 🥵 forecast for this Wednesday, 5/2/2025.
Do Canadians do dates as above or month, date, year ie: back to front! like Americans!? 🤔😄
Keep warm!

Every chunk of wood every screw brings you closer to completing the job. Fantastic work.
Dan, Brian and Nick: I made a comment on the eve of my 75th birthday which was 1/31. I hope you can see it and the replies, comments on there from all over from people like me and why we love your posts. They highlight our days, give us something exciting to look forward to, no matter what life throws at us. Thank you.
Happy birthday!
Its incredible how quickly things are moving along. Great job Dan😊
I'm always impressed by the skills everyone working has. You have put together a great team.
none of would have been possible without dogs helping.
Don’t look down! What a view, Loved it ... I love when you cut and put Noggin's in too, not sure why just do! Great job today as always Dan!
Seeing you do joists now compared to the first couple floors really illustrates how far you’ve come with this project. I do kind of miss the satisfying way you’d chisel out the closely cut notches but I bet you don’t!
Yay my favourite channel x
Soooo special Dan, finally stepping into
a new room, that has never, ever had a floor in the Chateau. Dan, knowing
you have actually installed the floor wood planks yourself double impressive Dan !!!!!!!
It is moving really fast Dan and all of us that have watched since day 1 have dreamed of the day that you finish your first room 😊
Love all the new discoveries of what once was or might have been! Dan, it is YOUR chateau and you can make any room you want to, where ever it will function best in it's new life! 10 yrs from we can all look back and go wow, hard to believe all the work that went into bringing the old girl back alive!
Everyday is rewarding for you which you most definitely deserve!
Probably..... I don't know when..... maybe tomorrow! What a tease😱....!!! You are like a cat, playing with it's mouse! You have us hanging on a knife's edge! AND we LOVE it! All 609 000 of us....
Yeah, I was panicking, thinking he was going to say Monday. Definitely a tease!! 😅
I’m amazed at the skills this guy is picking up and achieving as he goes along.
Well done Dan you are a hard worker and deserve this home. Love to your four legged children. Take care of these beautiful dogs.

I enjoy the slow pace of you working Dan. Nick and Dan are missed. Great progress thank you for sharing.

Who is the new person with the dangling cigarette? Where is Nick and Brian?

Don't look down, ok! Tomorrow in the daylight, it will be good to see this view outside from this level too. Such a tease, YES, we would like to see you tomorrow!! Thanks - great progress.
Hi Dan
Watching you all
Is a pleasure my husband & I are in awe
Of what you guys achieved so far
More power to you all!!
Lots of hugs to you all
Of course the family
And 🐶❤️🐶❤️🐶❤️
Well Dan, I nearly shite myself watching you walk on those floor boards. Also, when you said "don't look down", I was already looking down and scared out of my tree. Luckily Brian and Nick will be back helping you on Monday so that you don't have to work alone in such sketchy conditions. Great work however, well done!
Good thing it's not a far drop the roof. 😊
great seeing you completely redo a floor by yourself yesterday…and this guy plus friend in the basement…wow❤
So exciting watching the progress of this incredible transformation in every video. 👏👏👏👏👏👏🥇
Seeing the old plaster coming off the walls makes me smile! All the hard work is paying off. You have accomplished so much in a short time!
It's incredible the amount of work you're doing by yourself Dan. It also takes me back to when I first started to watch the show.
The chateau is changing for the better. I am always excited to see a new part of the Chateau! Keep up all the hard work!
🔨 Your pace of construction is amazing. Dan you are the best ...the top of the hill master at what you do...but when you are walking across noggins and you are there by yourself, I find myself holding my breath. Whew, I'll be glad when all the floors are in and I can breath again. Absolutely awesome achievement in every way 👏
Dan, it was so neat seeing you walk on the new floor joists. Yay for you. The other guys are doing a smashing job too.
Cheers
Getting really exciting now, but will miss the noggins when they’re done.🥰 from 🇦🇺.
I like to call this the - Whatever it takes - show. Dan will do whatever it takes to get his goals accomplished. 😊
❤ my favorite channel on RUclips ❤
Your stone masons do beautiful work ‼️❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸
My dear Father in Law was a mason. It’s a lost skill, especially in the U.S.
This is really literally built like a brick… And shaped like helmet your home! Love the dogs guiding us around where you are all clustered. Dying to see the garden start blooming in the the spring/ such fun.
Boy, I agree!
Been watching now for..... Gosh its been a MINUTE! Wow. Your ability to be undaunted inspires me. I always think "look what Dan's doing, and HE isn't overwhelmed so I certainly shouldn't be by my little project!" Thank you for the motivation!!
I'd add a comment but everything I'd say everyone before me has already said. Best youtube channel ever. I've been a fan since seeing you as the gardener and fixing up the old bakery. It's your personality and those of Brian and Nick that make it the best. By the way what is the name of the young pup. Love you all 😊❤😊❤😊❤
Lottie is the name, after the woman who run the children home during WW2
What a VIEW!!!! In the day....... I just love the noggins. Best word ever, and to watch the 2 stone-smiths is just fascinating. Yes and Dan with the HUGE I beams and his small push cart ( not really a cart) to move those beams one by one and then the hand crank lift. The pride you beam for getting one task checked off is admirable. Rome was not built in a day neither is Dan's Chateau. BUT Dan has way less people hands on. We gladly cheer you on Dan.i am blesses for the privileged to be able to watch your youtube channel. Thank you for always posting.
I think you have fantastic mason who really knows what he is doing.
OMG!!! I’m watching RUclips on my tv and the first video Dan did showing us the chateau when he brought the place popped up! Oh what a mess, I had forgotten how bad it was! What an amazing job has been done to date! I’ve watched it all, but you just forget when watching daily.
Think in my spare time I might just go back and rewatch it again. Cheers from Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺🦘
Gosh I enjoy your channel so much. It’s kind of like watching a fairytale, but it’s real!
I think I can say that I have watched every day that you have put on you tube for us..lovely to see you working out there on those beams and noggins, itvwill feel strange to walk on that floor ..its a joy to see how much gets done,, truly the best renovation anywhere...Where are the team then..missing Brian's jokes..❤
The changes to the building highlight that fact that you don't need to stay with what was, you can change it to make it what you want and need, after all it is yours and you are the one who will be living there later this year.
There is absolutely nothing more satisfying than taking rough or reclaimed timber and milling it to finished pieces.
I have to tell you Dan, your dogs, are the best dogs ever! There’re having so much fun! Living there’s best life! As all of us are doing , watching you make “ noggins,” lol ❤
As usual Dan…. you keep us updated with the day’s progress. Thank you !
Amazing that you are installing a floor where there has never been one before .. so instead of renovation now we see a new addition !! Well done for showing that you haven’t lost your touch of “going it alone” until Nick and Brian get back 👏
DurbanSA🇿🇦
I went back and watched the first video Dan shared of the chateau, with the forest growing up and out of the walls and floors. It is absolutely amazing what Dan and the other people that have worked on this beautiful place, have done!!!
Dan I love watching the progress and approach you take for each task you undertake. The tenacity you possess to find a solution to each problem. And working by yourself to install metal beams and floor joists, but my question is where are the boys I miss seeing them and their interaction between all of you. Keep up the good work.
It's quite interesting to see all the transitions from brick to stone and back to brick again that were hidden behind the plaster
Wow Dan I was concerned for you when I saw the precious postion you were in while getting the beam in . Lol Thank you for helping Dan out there buddy. I'm sorry don't know your name but am impressed with your skills.
What a super blessing you were given by the power tool company. It’s incredible the few very basic tools you started your project with and the speed the power tools have added to the progress of your rebuild. I can’t wait to see your creative skills with the decorative wood working.
That yellow primer on the joists looks very reassuring.
Great progress! Loving the random lounges added to the 'comfy' collection.
Congrats on getting that floor in. I remember when you took out the toilet. So much fun .
Hey Dan, you walking on those loose boards always freaks me out.
Keep moving forward, be safe
Noggins, did you say more noggins! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Seriously though, everything is just moving right along. Good hard working crew. Well done you guys!
Well done, I envision that room could make a great reading room with a view, a comfortable chair, a good book, and a hot beverage. :)
Watching your vlog always leaves me smiling 😊 You got so much done today!!
I picture the original main floor as an open space with the arches open but with doors in the other openings.
The opera singer & her lover would've entertained during the summer months; a piano for her impromptu recitals, a quartet for dancing, trays of food & drinks circulating among the guests & lots of conversation & laughter.
Seating scattered through the rooms, potted plants & floral arrangements.
The chateau closed & silent during the colder months with skeleton staff living in the kitchen. The bulk of the staff decamping to warmer climates or a Parisian townhouse with their employers.
Rural chateau were originally built for the warmer months for hunting & partying.
what a journey this guys had . inspirational. best watch over anything else .so real 😉
C'est formidable de voir à quelle vitesse Chaumont reprend vie , ce château va être la beauté baroque de la Creuse !
Watching them working without any eye and ear protection makes me shiver
I'd say that would be a nice doorway to open up as its mirrored on the other side.
Was a good move opening that arch, looks great.
Don’t look down - I soooo love your approach Dan 😂❣️❣️❣️
Very soon we're going to see massive advances in the reinvention, I'm looking forward to the next chapter👍👍
I’m so excited for you. Your channel is wonderful, I love watching the transformation. Cheers from Canada🇨🇦
One nice change would be to keep the fireplaces, but since you have blocked out and are not going to rebuild the chimneys on one side of the chateau, and figure out how to turn them into central heating outlets from a furnace in the basement.
Perhaps fit some faux flame effect fireplaces.
It would keep the ascetics of gorgeous marble fireplaces, but also add in the newer technology of far superior heating.
Also with far less chance of fires ever again in the chateau.
I think you will be living there way before Christmas. Dan you are a one man nuilding army. A most focused person.
He will get a few rooms "half ready" and that will do!?!
Busy Magic Mason - Chipping Walls - looking Good ! Another Floor going in ! More Good Progress ! Many Cheers from Australia !

Dan you are a inspiration I love watching the progress I tune in everyday its really taking shape now. Best wishes from me New Zealand ❤
It's great to see a new floor in! I remeberd the hanging toilet! You look way better with a short beard!💋
Nervewracking to say the least. lol.. I know you've done it a thousand times, but walking on those floor joists with out proper noggin placement to keep them slipping was extremely scary. I'm loving how the insides are being prepped for a full on rewiring and repiping job to bring this chateau into the modern age. I'm excited to see the granite steps go in and see the separation of a stone chateau as opposed to a fully paneled and painted chateau. Your rebuilding project is so massive, but so incredibly possible. Taking it one day at a time, one floor at a time, one wall at a time. I hope you rested well and are ready for another day full of progress and noggins. ;)
Those mason guys are very hard workers… great job they’re doing too…
While you were making the floor joists, I was remembering how you made the first one, you definitely have perfected the art!
Love seeing your progress on the chateau, your videos give me a respite from the madness of the world ❤
I like the way the three girls are giving you all the moral support they can muster Dan!
What a blessing all the right tools are. great work.
