      Jeanette makes a great point! Obviously you’re going to process the aged oak into doors exactly like the person who gifted you the wood intended. However, the raw edges shouldn’t be casually discarded. They can be glued to the edges of oak veneered plywood shelves/tabletops for a very high end finish. There are a ton of woodworking channels with videos about this.

    Hopefully, when the masons get done in the basement, the can move upstairs and start repointing and replacing some of the brickwork that is seriously deteriorated. Eventually, they could work on the chimneys. I understand you don’t intend on using any of the fireplaces. But to complete the restoration of the chateau with two chimneys missing on the left side will look like a stag with half its antlers missing. The chateau design is very symmetrical. Please bring the chateau back to its original symmetry. 👍🏻

    • @cosmolittle1395
      @cosmolittle1395 4 дня назад +1

      @@cosmolittle1395 He does intend replacing those windows later. Re the chimneys, yes, to me it doesn't look right, and as you say, one can't be replaced easily now.

    • @RobertHornaday
      @RobertHornaday 4 дня назад

      @ you’re probably correct. However, the chimney could still be rebuilt on top of/ straddling the beam. It’s not going to be used anyway. It’s strictly ornamental, but is for historic accuracy and symmetry.
      And yes, the eight dormer windows must be replaced for the same reasons.
      I sense that as Dan grows his subscriber base and his corresponding RUclips income grows, he has more $$ to invest in the chateau. Witness him hiring three masons to work in the basement along with Nick and Brian. His payroll expenses have ballooned. Wait till the materials budget starts to grow with the roof and interior.
      The slate roof is going to be expensive, but he has already purchased the tiles. But he needs to do the chimneys and dormers first to be able to waterproof the structure.

      @ I like freedom of speech/expression as much as you appear to but I’m sorry pal you are totally wrong on this one, when 1m people are watching some of these videos there is a certain moral responsibility on the owner of the content to set a decent example consistently through the content - it’s not just his own personal safety that is at fault but also those he is employing - it is like watching workplace videos from 50 years ago - this sets such a terrible example for viewers doing a bit of diy building at home.

    Who'd have thought that wood boards and pups would make my day (hey, I've been in the kitchen cleaning all day so this is definitely my highlight!).

    Great Idea - We used reclaimed wood for all the flooring on our house (maple) and once stained it looked magnificent - we used ipswich -minwax stain colour and it really brings out the grain..

    Nice to know the chateau is on, rock solid, foundations. Those basements are bloody bonb proof now. Well done.

    Starting in the basement and processing the wood is a very good idea. It will get you used to the equipment, figure out it's quirks and all that. The place is really looking good!
