While I was lvl 55 I found a mage bot in azshara farming nagas at the beach. I hate bots so I used him as my personal farming bot. He was opening on mobs with frostbolt so I was using Arcane Shot rank 1 to tag the mobs right before his spell was landing, so he keeps the aggro and thinks that he tagged the mob. While he was killing that mob, I was killing another one. Double the XP. Did that for hours, helped with grinding fatigue.

Had someone think I was a bot once, while I was doing a "critter crawl". It got kind of like I got into a pattern while playing. I like doing things like fishing, herbalism, and doing silly low grade stuff like grinding critters. I did chat with this one person that came down and kind of watched me. I run into these all the time. Usually 3 mages that all look alike or hunters with pets whose names consist of chinese (I'm guessing) characters. One tip off was watching one of these hunters kill something, loot it, skin it, attack a nearby mob and kill that, loot it, skin it and then run back to the first mob and loot the skin. I was on my warlock in Tanaris at the time so even though it was a blue server, I screwed with the bot by fearing their mob repeatedly. Eventually it got far enough away that their pet would either vanish or get ganked by more mobs. During my fearing, the hunter would turn and aggro another mob while the feared mob was still up and they'd melee the thing. Then I just let my fear run out letting the mob return and gank the now petless hunter. I did this several times before they insta-camped. No sitting and waiting just vanished. They were back 20 min later and I resumed my fun. I told this to my guildies and one of them suggested another thing I could do was to fill their empty inventory slots with heavy Leather balls.

Ever think about how many reports they get a day, per server? They have to pay a bunch of guys to read all those full time. Also, a report is not synonymous with guilt. People report the players who gank them in PVP servers with false accusations all the time. To confirm, a GM has to follow that same guy around for a while to confirm the bot-behaviors with his own eyes. None of this happens quickly.

A faster way to judge if someone is botting on your own faction, is to inspect their gear. If their gear is all BoE: 1. They have not done any quests as quest rewards give BoP gear(usually) 2. They have not grouped for instances (as finding groups takes time) 3. All their gear is usually from AH or world drops. Because they only farm trash mobs, trash mobs only drop BoE, and AH only sells BoE, botter's equipment would only consist of BoE. Only once I've seen a bot with a BoP green belt(out of 15 bots from my own faction), and this is for leveling bots as I've never encountered a lvl 60 bot.

An interesting thing about botting, is that some games (not WoW) allows it and sometimes even encourages it, because it inflates their player count. Although, the one I'm most familiar with that allows botting is one that only lets you be semi-afk at most. If you display botting actions, they'll message you and ask you what you're doing. If you respond in a timely manner, you're in the clear. If not, then you get killed and temp-banned for afk farming.

I think the functions from WC1,2,3 would be nice: Move, stay/defend, attack, follow - at death they lose the waypoints - it's good for a little break. The rotations are quite botty as it is - I'm not sure if I play or it's the developers. In a dungeon the player should be able to summon some followers or clones of their own characters instead of doing solo runs where you can get stuck. This could simply be capped to the previous expansion. In Classic no changes to keep the original experience.

Best bot I encountered was some in northern feralas farming harpies, since it is a quest area and almost nobody goes there despite it being a quest area, I see as understandable bot place, but hey, this one was tricky, when you invite the bot, he will accept the invite, still makes no responds to whisper or chat, and is just following (not the actual follow but the same pathing as your character) you around killing mobs with you until you finish the quest, if you leave the party, he will just continue doing his thing, it's hard to detect, since it's behavior is really human like, but in the end if you watch it for a while, you see the same patterns again and again. On my journey to 60 I've encountered at least 200 bots if not more (yes that much and more) and I've reported every single one of them, I don't care if they are doing it for the living, I came here to play the game with real human beings and not with bots.

I can patrol in WoW retail and report like 50 bots in an hour spamming abilties targetting like 30 things in a couple seconds looting and attacking at the same time interrupting the looting, and like 9-12 of them are standing ontop of each other, now normally no guild types kinda do this but i've been noticing that actual players from different guilds and diverse gear actually do it too its such a common practice that when people pass out or go to work they just turn the bot on, there is probably a good reason and comforting reason that many do it cause they know probably that blizzard doesnt have something implemented to detect botting but rather players have to report it and most people dont give a damn

Interesting video. The bot spam invites is one problem with classic that I actually have encountered. Started getting it about a week ago, just lots of spam invites to channels. You can turn channel invites off in settings. I recommend doing so, i assume that these gold selling companies are also the ones who steal wow accounts? Maybe not since they want repeat customers but its a sketchy service and most of it is done from China from what I understand.

  • @PiratDunkelbart
    @PiratDunkelbart 4 года назад +3

The problem arent the bots, but that Blizz doesnt ban people, who buy gold from bots. You can easily track this, if there are abnormal transactions (200 gold for a grey etc) + the general transaction volume by the bot user/company itself.
If everybody realizes, their account gets banned after having spent even a 3 to 4 digit number of real life money, nobody buys this anymore. Ofc that means a drastic drop in subscribers, but thats the only way to keep the game clean.

I often see bots in modern WoW... And even in highly populated areas. I guess that that highly populated areas actually mask the bots, cause nobody cares to examine what other players do when they are doing their daily World Quests. Me neither. But sometimes it's very striking and even absurd. At least three times I saw some kind of multibot. It was like 6 to 9 characters of the exact same race, class, spec and even appearance and gear, running around in perfect unison. So perfect that they were abusing the no collision WoW engine and were walking inside each other. But so many players in one place, it was impossible not to notice different animations when they stopped or started walking. This kind of bot was very fast, didn't stop much, so observing it and following it was rather hard.

"A human player would use a combination of keyboard turning and mouse turning". False. All my movement is done via keyboard. I use a trackball to change camera position and for targeting/selecting. The rare times I use my mouse to move is when I'm in PvP, if my opponent is skilled enough that the responsiveness will actually make a difference. That edge isn't necessary at all for PvE.

As a previous botter (end of last year I quit), people claiming blizzard wont ban us for "income" and whatnot are entirely wrong. We had people with 30+ accounts instantly being banned. CONSTANTLY. The underground groups total population of accounts would drop by 20 to even 50%, one of them any reasons I quit because it was unsustainable how Blizzard would hound you even if you didn't do anything too bad. Even trial accounts weren't safe or some accounts that didn't even do anything would be banned. Which is quite ridicilous, getting banned for botting (though you are a botter) before even doing anything and when questioning blizzard they would instantly claim you botted and that "they can see on their machines you were botting" which is a flat out lie.
Bots only moving with keyboard is false as well as they also use click to move, though it was discouraged back at Q4 of 2019 because it was assumed blizzard used that to detect botters.
The bot Hasit uses an old druid fightclass (basically what your bot uses to combat with) so it's why his performance is so shit. It's incredibly annoying to make a proper fightclass unless you know what you are doing AND want to invest the time and effort into making it. But yes, all skills got a treshold of like "50% HP, start to heal" and also settings in the program to "ignore other players" because usually the bot loses to a player 99% of the time. If not just getting stuck somewhere and being left there, and nothing is more annoying than coming back to your bot and seeing it stuck somewhere for the past 3-4 hours.
Now, Hasit could be using a different bot program as plenty of underground groups out there just with fewer people are running around. Because the bot shouldn't be attacking you even if you move infront of them. They should 100% ignore you and not do anything, actually they should be trying to run away from you in an opposite direction trying to exit combat.
The night elf, 2nd one, is from my previous community. There is an option in the bot to make you randomly jump from time to time, nobody really uses it, also nobody really responds to whispers as it tends to cause more problems than solve(For the botters).
As for the movement, it's because the pathing of the bot is shit. Like really, you should see it flying in retail. It's something the community got use to over time... Though back in the day it wouldn't stop randomly before attacking, could be some issue with new pathing used to avoid blizzard detection. Like it literally has a "beta" ray thats supposed to detect obstacles and avoid them, but it has been in beta for probably longer than illidan has been imprisoned and the bots attempts to try and get loose usually come down to going left or right. instead of god damn retracing its steps and trying to go around.
Anyway to finish off, your reporting is worthless and more often than not you achieve nothing.
What got botters 99% of the time was blizzards new detection methods and 1% time being reported over 10 times in a single day.
Out of all my accounts lost I probably lost less than 5% of them to player reports. And killing the bots achieves nothing either really, they are coded to repair and unlike real players they wont stop even if you kill them 24 hours forever.
As for why so many bots now? Last time I heard they opened up more slots for more botters (We had a cap and we reached it before that). All those old botters getting invites to this community are rushing in seeing dollar signs while the rest of us who had been in that community before that are less illusioned by "Wew so much money to be made in classic". And as this is a month old video, that's likely the case as I think in november they opened up more slots for people to join.
As long as they make the money back they spent on accounts they wont quit, I didn't make my money back and actually went into the negatives after a few months so I packed up and left.

I remember a duel between some wowvendor lot and gm's one Xmas where the vendor lot kept spelling out the website name in fires, stags and all sorts and gm's erasing it as quick as they could, was a very clever and concerted effort. I waited all these years for classic to come back and gave it up after a week or so of being botganked, killstealed, mob camping by bots. There seems to be some sort of botting going on in Mechagon, very suspicious that a mob walks into your aoe and is instantly white barred... yet there is no horde and sometimes just one player doing the same thing again and again.

Not really related with this topic, but I started playing wow a week ago with a friend for the first time. My friend created his account and made his first character as a mage and after doing a few of the quests in the beginning area he noticed in his inventory that he had a little more than 1K gold and took a picture and sent it to me, we thought that it was some kind of bonus for playing hearthstone because he used to play, all of the sudden his gold goes up to 4k and then jumps up to around 100k gold he freaks out and sends another screenshot while we were talking on disc and then gasps and goes silent I kid you not he sends a picture to me through text I open it and see 1.3M gold in his inventory then it keeps going up until 4.2M we start freaking out not knowing what is going on, we are two level 8 noobs in elywin forest fresh from spawn trying to find a way to use to use the gold but we we're far away from any city to buy anything useful or that had value.. But all good things must come to an end and his gold count starts dropping to 4.2M to 1M and then 100K to 1000 to 0 how it was supposed to be. Just curious if anyone knows what this was if it was some hacker messing with us or a weird bug/glitch.

There are a few other things to look for with bots (and actual player characters made to farm gold for these websites).
    1) pet name. if it is a hunter or a warlock and it has chinese characters for it's name, it is most likely affiliated with one of these sites (why else would someone using the chinese WoW client be playing on a US server?)
    2) other movement related stuff. The bots I have encountered will always turn instantly, which is not something a player will do normally. One of the bots also mistook me for an enemy and followed me for a while (until I dragged it off a cliff).
    3) (probably the biggest thing you didn't mention in the video) gear, especially with max level characters. Every bot that I have seen (as well as real humans doing things that are too difficult for a bot) have very abnormal itemization compared to your average player. They will have NO TRINKETS (the one time I ever saw one with a trinket it was an argent dawn commission, and it was a real human), and nearly every piece of gear they have on are simple BoE greens with various "of the ___" modifiers, sometimes with all the gear having the SAME MODIFIER.
If there are other tells that you have seen, please share.

I think part of the reason it goes unbanned is that blizzard sees it as another sub to the subcounter and if they are in little traveled areas killing little farmed mobs they are not hurting the game with their presence. They gold selling or account selling wouldn't really hurt the game either but is against TOS and I think that is where blizzard steps in, in the shadows. What I mean is that they might wait until the bot trades it's gold to someone for sale and just deletes the gold. or if the account all the the sudden start changing account info and start playing from a new place, the account gets frozen and the classic passport verification is triggered. Not maybe the best way for the players but would be the best for blizzard.
