- Wolf pups aren't the only baby animals that arrive along with spring in Slough Creek, and we've been working on some special gameplay for the upcoming Slough Creek episode involving the ungulate babies (elk and moose calves, mule deer fawns). Today we're looking at elk calves specifically. In their first few weeks of life, they do not emit any smell, so predators cannot track them by scent. And their mothers hide the calves in tall grass, which makes them even harder to find -- and presents a good challenge for WolfQuest players! If you can find a hidden calf before its mother finds YOU, you'll be able to bring home a nice snack for your pups.

WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition is available now for PC/Mac on Steam and itch.io, as Early Access. The game currently includes Episode 1: Amethyst Mountain, Lost River: Classic, and multiplayer mode in both maps. Slough Creek is in development! The mobile version will come after the game (including Slough Creek) is completed on PC/Mac platforms. The next episode, Tower Fall (DLC) will follow. We do not announce specific release dates. We will release them when they are ready!

Yeah yeah I was thinking of shelter 2 at the time and in there you are a lynx with 4 cubs or sometimes 3 , 2 , 1 cub depending on how bad of a parent you are

The circle of life. That calf died, but it gave life to 4(?) other wolf pups. I love watching these, they are so fascinating!!

I made up a lil story when I got AE at Christmas that if one of my pups died, my wolf would take comfort in the fact that her baby helped another baby survive for a little bit longer. My family would howl to mourn the loss, but then take comfort in the fact that the pup's death helped another. My wolf Luna who is age 7 now, hopes that Elk and Mule Deer mothers think the same thing. But part of her knows that they probably never will and will forever see wolves as monsters and the bad guys.

Only me that makes my wolves onto OCs and writes stories about them? I even found my wolf Eclipses (original name I know) girlfriend Moon (very original I know) in the game with Eclipse.I named them that because I thought it was funny that Eclipse and Moon two opposites were mates.

All my wolves almost are my OCs too. I write backstories for them and books about my favs. Eclipse and Moon have a LOT of chapters about them somewhere in my files I think.
Moon is the daughter of Yinyang who is the alpha of one of the strongest packs in amethyst mountain. As she grows up she becomes an échelé the hunter
who’s well respected in her pack and some other packs. When she starts improving Yinyang demands more of her, making her feel trapped. While on a border patrol one day, Moon meets the loner Eclipse who has a long backstory about her siblings and how her brother disappeared due to humans and Eclipses sister searched for him and didn’t return.
Eclipse decides that she has to leave her home and find a new better place to live alone due to packs chasing her away constantly. Eclipse wanders for months in the direction her sister went to and finds herself at amethyst mountain.
Moon and Eclipse find their ways into each other’s hearts and after a lot of adventures and battles, leave amethyst mountain after finding out that Eclipses sister, Raven, was alive and possibly their brother too. Eclipse and Moon eventually finds Raven who has found her own mate and then Eclipse and Moon adopts some pups they found by a fallen tree and establishes their own territory where they raise their pups in safety.

For towerfall you should make it so you can bring fawns to your juvenile pups to try to hunt and practice their hunting skills

In the first weeks of June, the pups frolic at the rendezvous site in Slough Creek while their parents bring them their first meals of fresh elk meat. When the elk herds move down into the Lamar Valley, the pack follows - only to find other packs have already established territories in the valley. So they journey further south, up and over Specimen Ridge, then down into the valley of the Yellowstone River. There, on the banks of the Yellowstone, with Tower Fall thundering nearby, the pack makes a new home amidst fellow predators and plentiful prey. Here the pack will stake out a new territory, protect their family from danger, and and raise a new generation of skilled hunters.
The Tower Fall expansion will be an in-game purchase (DLC) and released after WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition.

Lone cow elk + calf hunting is like playing a game of hot and cold. At least that's what it looks like, as the mother won't do much until she sees you getting close to where her baby is hidden.
I don’t know how the RUclips algorithm put y’all’s videos in my recommended but I’m glad they did. I used to play this back in the day and I didn’t realize you were still updating this game. I might have to get it again and check out all the upgrading you guys have done. I’m having so much nostalgia right now

I just gotta say, those baby elk are adorable. it'll almost be a shame to kill them, but the pups need to eat too and ill try to refrain from making a elk baby pile like some people do with the hares. I'm glad that they won't be too easy to kill either. Hopefully a bear won't come to my den looking to steal it. Slough Creek looks amazing and I really can't wait to play it.
So will the pups only be able to feed on the small prey like elk babies by themselves without it being regurgitated for them, or will they also be able to feed on the large prey carcass's without you regurgitating for them(if a player manage to herd an adult elk there so its very close to the pups when its killed)? Also, what changes happen to the spike elk during spring and summer?
Regurgitated food is the best way to carry food back from large carcasses efficiently. You can also grab a chunk to carry.
Players with grass enabled: Here? No. What about here? Nah.

earlier this year I was lucky enough to see a wild baby red deer. I was visiting a wildlife reserve in my country (de Hoge Veluwe, which is technically a park since it is fenced in but the animals are wild and not used to humans) and my mother and I were cycling along one of the bike routes within the park and saw a baby red deer who had hidden in a little grove near the bike path and was just brave enough to stand up and nibble on some grass right as we were nearby. I stopped and signaled mom to stop and look, we tried to get a photo but it was impossible to see the baby deer in the photo, especially since it noticed us right away and curled up again. baby deer camouflage works so well, I knew exactly where it was but I had trouble seeing it! we waited until some other cyclists had passed us (we pretended we'd stopped to just get a drink of water, to avoid drawing too much attention to the baby deer who must've been scared out of its mind already), and then we moved on. I don't know if mama deer was nearby at the time, she might've been too scared to approach the bike path during the day, but I sincerely hope that no one else saw the baby deer and that mama deer returned to it as soon as all the humans had left for the night.

Hmm. Moose always stay after their baby is killed. It just stands there and chills. And a few of my friends thought that was terrible. But I guess it’s pretty normal.

i mean! this game is so REALISTIC, its like ur an actual wolf! idc how long it takes! i will wait forever if i have to.
I’ve seen so many videos of adults and even kids finding deer calves in giant patches of tall grass either in the woods or right outside their house, and I thought the baby had been abandoned or the mom had died, but then I figured out that the mother is most likely nearby, it’s so cool to see how you incorporate that into this game! I had no idea elk did the same thing! (It’s cuz most of the types of deer calves people find are white tailed deer)
At first I thought the title said "Hide A Snack" and I was like 'Wah?! We can hide food now??? Woah!' But this is still amazing and I love that it isn't stiff when you carry the elk newborn. ( I hear that deer hide their babies too ) U guys really pay attention to details and this is awesome!!!
Awww the baby models are so cute. It would be cool that you had like a 1 in 100 chance to be able to pick up the baby elk without killing it, it's been known that sometimes predators who have recently or will soon be giving birth will actually adopt the prey they meant to hunt. So maybe that could happen sometimes, like you could adopt a baby elk but after a day it would die and attract more pup predators.
The game looks amazing right now! My game finally last more than five minutes! It feels so good to play as my favorite animal and I’m so glad you guys created Anniversary edition! Though there are things I would add like more pelts, scars, limps (I really miss those) the game looks absolutely FANTASTIC

In WolfQuest 2.7 I remember wondering why there were no baby elk. So happy that there in the game and a new hunting challenge to go along with it. Slough Creek is going to be so much fan in multiplayer. I was thinking in Slough Creek your mate should be more independent because you and your mate could split up and hunt baby elk since it only takes one bite to kill them.This will provide enough food for the pups if you have a big litter. If you want your mate to follow you. maybe you and you’re mate can howl together to make your mate fallow you.

What I wonder most is how long the pups would be full for after a big meal. I know in 2.7 their stomachs had entire dimensions inside of them so they were infinitely hungry, I’d assume the new pups might have a toned down version of that.
I think my more resourceful wolves will try and seek out the calves!

I remember one of the first times I saw a lone mother elk, and one she saw me, she ran over to a patch of grass and stood staring at me. I was like “lol what if the baby is there?”
Yeah it actually was. That elk led me to her baby. There is blood on that elk’s hooves.

How odd. I was just talking to my sister about people who can't stand baby animals dying. We were saying, "It is sad, but that's nature for you," and that if some of the babies weren't killed, we'd be over run. And here is a video about just that. XD
This honestly looks INCREDIBLE. I’m a huge WolfQuest fan and I’m looking forward to playing wolfquest 3 once it comes out on mobile.(maybe I’ll be able to buy it on Mac someday)
Also, while there be newborn fawns/moose calves? I remember seeing newborns moose/fawns/pronghorn sheep calves in your “meet the prey” video from two years ago shortly before WQ 3 came out, so I’m just wondering if they’ll still be added as well. I’d also love to see pups from other stranger wolves, fox kits, coyote pups, and cougar cubs to cull for competition and resources (although you wouldn’t need to do that if you don’t want to kill them)
And will there be carcasses for pups? Like when a cougar/coyote/stranger wolf/whatever kills a pup. Since they don’t usually kill pups as a food source, it would be nice to have pup carcasses as it would make the gameplay more realistic and actually feel like the pups have died rather than be taken by a predator and never to be seen again.
While you ever add the ability to have two flat ears? I see that only the left ear of the wolf can be flat, while both ears can be bended to any specific degree.
While pups inherit floppy/flat/bent ears? That would be cool to see. I’d also love to see NPC stranger wolves with flat ears, bent ears, and ear notches. It would add even more diversity to each wolf.
Last but not least, will newborn calves have the ability to walk and graze rather than just curl up in those tall grasses? The model looks AMAZING btw, I love the motion psychics you added into the carcass so it actually moves and looks real rather than looking stiff.

As the ungulate babies get older, they join their moms. There will be babies for all the ungulate mothers in the game eventually.
