The wife (Cheryl) and I attended this concert. Cheryl is from Flint Michigan and if you know anything about GFR ...you know they got their start in Flint. Before they were GFR ...they were Terry Knight and the Pack. Cheryl use to go see them in Flint before they became famous. I talked the concert manager at BG into giving me meet & greet passes and we got to visit with Don & Mel for about an hour. Cheryl, Don, and Mel took a reminiscing trip back to all the venues they performed at in Flint that are no longer. We had such a good time and those guys are two of the nicest guys you will ever meet. I had them sign the meet & greet passes and I have them in a safe place :)
When it was Grand Funk. Not a pop band and less their key frontman. I too love Grand Funk from the seventies. But certainly not this version. This is not Grand Funk Railroad. The name don't make the music.
Funk without Mark is like Stones without Jager. I remember a nice interview from Doyle from Misfits that fall exactly in Grand Funk's situation: ""This is the only business where people can't get along together to make millions of dollars, what's wrong with everyone?, is it sad to play Music?, Noo" Hope Funk get Mark on a final tour before they are too old to play.. people will love it!
I saw Grand Funk Railroad last year at Wild Adventures in Lowndes County, Georgia. While Don Brewer and Mel Schacter did an admirable job of reprising GFR’s greatest hits, it just wasn’t the same without Mark Farner in the band. Hey, he WAS one-third of the band! Time to break bread, mend some fences, bury the hatchet, and bring back Mark Farner!
Tengo 61. Gracias y salud!
Let me try to explain a bit about this show in response to all the critical “No Mark, No Funk” remarks. As I would agree this is a not true representation of the Band in their well deserved glory, this was a free show included with the regular purchase price to the park. It was a Beautiful day and the crowd had a great time. Watch the whole show. These guys didn’t phone it in. They rocked. Why? They’re professional entertainers and know how to put on a show. Top notch musicians and much better than a tribute band that is so popular today. Yes, there is no Mark but relax, enjoy the show and reminisce if the 70’s. Greatest decade of music in my opinion. It was a very cool scene and they couldn’t have been nicer guys. Just like the Guess Who (No Burton, No Randy) but again, they knew how to put on a show and rocked! Keep the love and the vibe alive. And here’s to your favorite band that never breaks up. -RC
I can't help it. They hold on to the name, but for me, this isn't GFR anymore. The singer sucks, in my book, and they've lost their magic. Mark and Don created the energy, and Don can't carry it. Mel still carries his part well, and without Mark, what can I say? I remember them from the day of the battle of the bands, at the South Flint Plaza in Flint Mi. That's the day their magic was born to the public in my book, and it never died until they broke up. BTW Don and Mel, Terry was the ruin of the band from the get go, but you guys still made it work great for the duration. It was you,,, Mark, Don, and Mel all the way. Too bad the band manager was poison for the band in the long run. RIP Grand Funk Railroad.
Search for Mark Farner's American Band "Mark Farner: From Chile with Love" You can even see Grand funk essential, the feeling, how sounds and you kinda miss Don actually, but concert sounds way better.
In the 70s the focus was always on Farner. Without him there's no one in this band with anywhere near the stage presence. The singer doesn't sing the songs like Farner. The guitarist plays well but doesn't try to sound like Farner at all. Maybe it's a good thing that they don't try to be the band that they can never be without Farner. For what it's worth this is a new version of the band.
This is so bad! That poor guy who has the unenviable task of trying to fill Mark Farner's shoes is just embarrassing. Those of us who were around from the beginning will never accept this pablum. The Stones without Jagger, Zeppelin without Plant and Page, and Aerosmith minus Tyler and Perry couldn't be worse than this. Grand Funk Railroad?? May Don and Mel rot in hell for the cowardly way they sucker punched Mark. As it's been said many times, NO FARNER, NO FUNK!
I saw you when you played in Medford, Oregon. I totally felt ripped off. Is that how you want your fans to feel. Thanks, Don and Mel. I still feel angry about it. If you want to make your fans happy, you would go out with the real band and video tape all the shows to end with a great DVD for the fans that supported you from the start. What don't you get? It's not the same without Mark. Please forgiveness is where it is at. Try it and see. You most likely would have a great time and make your fans happier.✌️😄👌
This doesn't sound like the band that I knew and whose concerts I attended many times. However, Mel Schacher, and Don Brewer are good but they were only two thirds of the great band that I knew and without Mark Farner the band is no longer Grand Funk Railroad. I stopped listening and going to concerts when they added the fourth member and changed their music.
What a shame, Don and Mel are such excellent musicians but to abandon Mark, your sound is not even nearly the same and you've become Grand Junk Failroad. Sorry guys, meaning no disrespect.
I love Grand Funk Rail road, greatest musicians since 1970

Great Story! Thanks for sharing
The finest Mark Farner tribute band I've ever heard.
I don't understand why so less people looking or liking. We were so many fans in the 70's
When it was Grand Funk. Not a pop band and less their key frontman. I too love Grand Funk from the seventies. But certainly not this version. This is not Grand Funk Railroad. The name don't make the music.
No Mark No Funk, No Soul
Funk without Mark is like Stones without Jager. No Farner No Funk!!
Yep, say it loud and say it often!! Every video I come across of Sgt. Brewer's Lonely Funkless Club Band I always say it!!
I saw Grand Funk Railroad last year at Wild Adventures in Lowndes County, Georgia. You guys are a shell of the old days...period .
The original rock is still the greatest rock! Old rockers never die they just fade away!

Funny how it takes two guys to fill Farner's shoes!! No Farner, No Funk!!
No Mark. No GFR. Now just a garage cover band. Sad and embarrassing.
Agree 100%
Sorry guys, no Mark? No thanks.
Mark Farner es el alma de Grand Funk... creo que todos pensamos lo mismo...

I had all there albums. Regardless this dude can still play Drums man. 💪💪
Sorry, I didn't make it 2 minutes into this.
Who's idea was it to open the show with a song nobody knows or wants to hear?
Don's idea, he is the Sharon Osbourne of Grand Funk, betrayer, vindictive, you name it
Egos destroyed this band. No Mark? Bye!
Who's wedding reception is this?
Sorry guys...Mark Farner's band. Mark made this band. Sounds NOTHING LIKE GRAND FUNK WITHOUT MARK !!
I saw you when you played in Medford, Oregon. I totally felt ripped off. Is that how you want your fans to feel. Thanks, Don and Mel. I still feel angry about it.

This is soda pop music. No Mark No Funk!!!
Great times! Fun concert! Didn't feel like work at all.

Without Farner they absolutely suck
Brewer is a pathetic pretender without Farner.
I would've demanded a refund...
Can we get a KISS cover?
Tribute band
They need to read these comments.
Totally COLORLESS…PALE…ANEMIC…
What a shame, Don and Mel are such excellent musicians but to abandon Mark, your sound is not even nearly the same and you've become Grand Junk Failroad. Sorry guys, meaning no disrespect.
No Mark Farner…..!!!!…….sounds ordinary. This sounds like a common cover band
It is lame. I’ve lost all respect for Don and Mel. It’s so lame!
MEH
Fake not the same as original
Fake Grand Funk
This isn't GFR. This is a cheap ass cover band playing Mark Farner music. Farner needs to sue!
OMG This is awfully embarrassing, especially the singer
