Typical Chrysler TIPM problem. I call a bad TIPM in 2011 town and country because randomly car wont star just click. The dealer here in Las Vegas, Nevada called Chapman Dodge sold to the owner a new battery, alternator and WIN module before they give up and got to me. I did same test as you did. Same principal the starter relay is external but the control is integrated. Not much it can't be done. $400 plus new TIPM. It took me 45 min make the car act up to get the evidences. But that's why we test and not guess.
Is it worth checking powers and grounds to the TIPM before making the call. I am just thinking I have seen some weird stuff where one set of powers or grounds is in charge of measuring the voltage on a control circuit and another set is in charge of the actual control.
Hi Joe Excellent diagnostic channel. Maybe you have already worked on one of these modified vans. If you think Chrysler vans and their TIPM issues are fun wait until you work on one that has a lowered floor conversion with a powered ramp in the passenger sliding door. These are modified for people with disabilities. The floor from the dashboard to infront of the rear tires is removed and a deeper floor pan is installed. There are troughs for the wiring to run through from front to rear and the problems begin. The harness is cut open and separated to a left and a right harness. Sometimes when they cut open the harness they slice too deep and cut the insulation on the wires. Sometimes they don't clean out the weld splatter in the troughs. Some wires that are modified especially in the B pillars they use non heat shrink butt connectors and this is in air bag circuits. The floor has 1/2 inch non marine plywood with either carpet or vinyl flooring. Water gets in there all the time. Tons of can bus issues. These lowered floor conversions are also done with Sienna's and Odyssey's. Remember the full size conversion vans with their nice woodwork and plush carpeting? Then you look behind the wall panels at the wiring? This is worse.

Hello, Having the same problem 20122 Grand Caravan. What are you calling the "Tempem" or something like that that you concluded was the part at fault. I didn't have all the fancy scanner you had but by grounding the low speed relay with the relay installed I could operate the fan on low. Same with the high speed relay but that takes grounding the signal wire and power to the other small wire That power should come through the 10A fuse 34 that you mentioned. Mine has no power on fuse 34 which should get it's power from J2 one of the big square relays. Mine has no power going through the J2 relay. That is as far as I have traced mine so far. If I hot wire the relay then the power flows. However the fusible link 16 gage that it temporally replacing the 60AMP Fan fuse gets pretty hot and that is where this whole problem started or al least when I knew about it when I blew that 60 AMP fuse. Those fuses aren't cheap hence the temporary wire. I have to admit that I don't know what size wire one should use to equal a 60 AMP breaker. Probably bigger that 16 gage so maybe getting hot may be just because the wire is too small but I do suspect a problem on that circuit somewhere and don't want to go through 60 AMP fuses like you were going through those 10 AMP fuses. I would think it would take a lot to blow a 60 AMP fuse. Any Ideas? Brett
Great diagnosis, looking forward to a follow up to see how it runs after a new TIPM is installed. Ivan did 2 limp home mode videos on a PT Cruiser where he employed some Russian engineering and by passed the TIPM to correct his issue.
Wow best video ... today 2012 caravan fan only turns on high speed.... I changed the resistor and the same relay you pointed at and tomorrow I was thinking of changing the fan
Thank you Joe for this work, my 2012 VW Routan has the same error code: P0480 P0693, P0692, P0691, according the circuit diagram, test the fan working connection like this: By pass the Fan Low Speed relay at 30,87(short 30,87 in K11 Relay), the Fan works at 8A current By pass the Fan High speed relay at 3,5 (short Fan High speed relay at 3,5), the Fan works fast at 30A current Check two relay are good situation, switch can be active with 9V power source, and the switch can be turn on. So all these parts are good: 2 Relay, fuse J19, fuse M34, Fan resistor, Fan, and all this part cable The cable Fuse j19 to K11 relay 85 is connection. The only can be problem is K11 86 cable and the "circuit board", but this part can't be diagnose like you said Could you find some thing about the "circuit board" in your circuit diagram? Thanks

Working on 2013 dodge caravan have code for p0692 cooling fan 1 control circuit high stored.p0691 cooling fan 1 circuit low stored.if I activate them using scanner fans comes on.not sure what's going on
Great video. Did the new TIPM fix the issue. My van is seeing these error codes as well. Checked the relays and both test good when given power. Replaced the resistor in the radiator and still have these codes. The TIPM already has the fuel pump aftermarket mod so I'm guessing it's causing theses issues too. Might send it in and get it repaired.
Got your classic used car dealer deal there. Hey it’s just a relay. Oh so the dealer knew there was a problem? Of course he did he cleared the code. He would have lost my trust right there. My brother got a used blazer from a shady dealer. It failed inspection for a coolant temp sensor. He dropped it off to him. The dealer said he took the sensor apart and it was fine. I can't believe they substituted a turn signal/hazard flasher for a relay. When it blew the 10 amp fuse, that tells me the driver in the TIPM was getting that 10 amp surge before the fuse blew. I honestly can't believe the low-speed driver didn't fail with that abuse. With that logic, maybe the high-speed driver is OK and it's just internal corrosion that caused the TIPM failure.
Actually the relay was for an led lighting setup lol. But i digress. The truth is, the TIPM may have beent he root cause all along, and they added to the problems.

The problem is the damn computers and the damn programs they put in them. The tolerances they program in that sets the codes and check engine light can be too nominal. It doesn't matter if the fan operates as intended, what matters is what the computer sees as what is acceptable. I wonder if a resistor would lower the value enough to prevent the code from appearing. I say look outside the box if thats what it takes. Most garages go by the book and thats it. If installing something in the line to regulate the values so it satisfys the computer, who cares? Thank goodness in Michigan we do not have inspections. I wonder how many decent vehicles are scrapped just because the computer threw a code that didn't really affect vehicle performance, yet state laws dictate the vehicle has to pass inspection or it gets scrapped, over some stupid value written by some idiot sitting behind a computer.
All these makes AND models of cars n trucks from mid 1980s to the present are the shittest piece of machines (junk) we got now adays, and to make matters worse these damn computers are jus ruining it for everyone, with relays, sensors, FUEL INJECTORS, electric radiator gas, (fuel pumps in the tank,) ECT, GOOD GRIEF, jus STUPID, stupid, STUPID, light comes on, mechanic checks it, and codes are defined as to what is SUPPOSE to be the problem, (wrong), (bad) parts are replaced, engine light turns (back) on😭😭 you've spent money on this and that and it still on, and it's NOT THE MECHANICS FAULT!!! ITS ALL THE AUTOMAKERS FAULT, ALL THEY WANT YOU TO DO IS SPEND 💰, I will never buy another vehicle THAT'S FROM 1981 or over I've had it with these junkers,😭 I've got a new truck, got problems already with at 20,000 miles my cousin also new VEHICLES THEY GOT problems with them too. Let me guess another classic of replacing the good parts with bad parts and not fixing the issue
I love how they call it high-speed can but then it takes another 20,30 minutes to do anything
Man they fired a fan assembly for no reason
👍👍
Knew it anything with a TIPM you should probably just get that rebuild first
These people need to learn to see Joe first, not second or third!
Nice !
You're really going to have to work, "now, for my next trick..." Into a video, somewhere....
Customer mistake number 1, they bought a Chrysler/Dodge/FCA product. Mistake number 2, they didn’t take it to you in the first place.
TIPM very common with dodge
We need some new content
I WILL STICK TO MY 1958 EDSELS, MERCURYS, VICTORIAS, 1970/ 1976/1977/ F-100 PICKUP TRUCKS.!!! THESE CARS MANUFACTURES, NOWADAYS CAN GO TO H***!!!!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WITH ME 👍
