Cheers mate! I literally ordered scales then saw about the QR codes and it worked 🥳 Able to get myself plenty of Batlords, Goats, Barbarians and Harpies now. Just done all the animations and well so hopefully get that out in the next few days!
I so need to get Basil myself! I like to imagine the blades of his axe are forged out of blood. It now makes a lot more sense to wear his helmet since a vampire has gotta protect their head to avoid decapitation. The only thing I don't like about with his face is how with the closed mouth expression I can't tell if he's supposed to be frowning or smirking (also he's lost his widow's peak hair😭) It was rather ambiguous to if Classic Basil was a vampire or not. Lego Racers if you used Basil's face in the Build option one or two of the alternative licence snapshots actually had him with red eyes and fangs. Lego Legacy Heroes Unboxed his bio uses the word "vampiric" and one his attacks involved draining opponents HP to replenish his own HP although his face is shown a lot more in this game this version of him is never shown with red eyes or fangs. The US January-February 1997 Lego Mania Magazine had a small story told by Basil that he was once a regular knight (origin unknown) and Willa turned him into the Bat Lord with her magic after he ended up at her manor/castle trying to shelter from a storm cuz he was lost or something. Though it still wasn't clear if Willa actually brainwashed Basil to serve her against his own will or if he is on her side by his own free will and choice due to liking the position and power she gave him. I always assumed the latter since I doubt while being brainwashed he would be able to remember the events to how he got brainwashed never mind tell the story (and he seemed to be telling it in a fond way). Although Lego Legacy's version did go with Basil was brainwashed by Willa but eventually broke free of the spell and hates her for what she did. The magazine also said Basil sleeps hanging upside down from ceilings so this gave me the impression Willa's magic had given him some powers related/connected to bats but not turned him into a vampire. Who knows maybe after all these years the effects of Willa's magic has finally turned him full vampire or maybe Basil ended up losing his life some way and Willa used her magic on him again to resurrect him only this time its brought him back as a vampire.
I like that idea that they are forged out of blood - planning some stop motions with him so might well use it ;-) Yeah its a shame he lost his hair, I am still undecided on him being a vampire - I read all the backstory to him a while ago as was one of my favourites as a kid and loved him in Lego Racers. I always thought of willa as his merlin, but reading the bits saying she controlled him, it does make sense for him to be a brainwashed / fallen knight who now can ride dragons and command armies of the undead. Maybe becoming a vampire lead him to be fully accepted into this world. I always imagined he could transform into a bat with his old bat staff. Certainly planning a video of him and the original Basil as a comparison and stop motion.
@@mrlegobrick Of course if you don't like the whole vampire thing you can always just swap out the vampire head for his classic head. Yep I also imagined he could turn into a bat too (and Willa could turn into a spider). Also I imagined him having the power to see through the eyes of other bats as a way of spying on potential threats and enemies cuz i'd watched Dark Crystal which had the little Crystal Bats that were basically like living security cameras. The deal that he can ride a dragon made me imagine he was a Dragon Master prior to crossing paths with Willa since they also command/ride dragons so he already has experience (yeah Willa could have taught him but still). Combined with the little thing about Willa being Majisto's cousin as mentioned in the instructions of 10305 Lion Knights Castle (I know Basil is mentioned in it too) perhaps Willa partly wanted to spite her cousin by turning one of his own men into one of her own so the minute Basil came along she could see he was Dragon Master the rest was history. Maybe after Basil finally snapped out of Willa's spell he broke ties with her but due to her magic and slowly becoming vampire he can't exactly go back to the Dragon Masters and he's already been accepted in the land that looks like the backgrounds on the Fright Knights boxes so he took the Fright Knights who he had earned the respect and loyalty of to rule his own area of that land.
