Id like to add every one and every child is different I know 50 year old me who cant be trusted with a knife and some kids who can, hahahah also keep in mind this is for my niece with my sisters permission I would treat my own child or children very differently and their first knife comes at about 4 years old and they get to shoot their 1st 22 at 5 ;) But I respect my sisters parenting and her decisions...
What use does a 4 year old have with a knife? Insanity.
@@Sarah-no7lv no its not insanity its not like im suggesting they would just have it in their pocket lol, but when you want to teach a human something you start young...start with safety, start with knowledge and as they grow they are much less likely to hurt themselves, if you protect them from danger all the time and dont teach them they have more of a chance at getting hurt...at 4 I will hold it in their hand for a moment and then talk about it...its not like here go ahead and cut up this box for me ill be right back lol...use some commen sense...
50 year old????? 🤔
@@Sarah-no7lv Dad gave me my first knife at 5 and taught me how to use it and the responsibility of keeping it sharp and not losing it. Also I'm from around the same area Jeff is I grew up an hour or so south of him in West Virginia and if your a normal kid and play outside or in the woods by yourself or with friends then you need a knife.
Yak1B I think he meant to say men not me
I got my grandpa's deer knife when i turned 9. He kept it crazy sharp and I learned my lesson in respecting a blade real quick
Im 11 i got my own victorinox that my grandpa brother gived me i think i can handle my huntsman better than many grown ups
I gave my daughter one of these as a gift after I went to Switzerland, then later my sons got it. It held up pretty good and all of them have used it alot. Quite cool to see their proud faces when they get their first knife 😄
I used to watch your channel about 10 years ago when I was 14. Just looked up the channel again. So happy to see you still making videos. Keep it up man!!
Also known as the only knife allowed in England.
Jk. It's also banned.
Haha hurts me cause its almost the truth lol
The Northern Woodsman it’s not banned it’s perfectly legal to own and even carry
Sorry England!
I had one of these as my first knife about 12 years ago or so (about when i was 7). I still have it in my collection. It’s a great little knife!
I used to watch your videos when I was in high school. That was back in 2010. Wasn’t sure if you were still on RUclips. Found an old zippo and I had to search you up. Lol. Glad you’re still making alive and making videos.
These are so cool, i got a pink one for my daughter. Introducing her to knives. Thanks for sharing.
This would be great for a rafting guide to carry since they can have a tip on their knife because if they drop a pointed knife it could pop the raft
They make an excellent watchmaker's knife.
I stripped the saw out of mine and added it to a Cadet, because the saw blade is *super* hard to find in 84mm.
genius. I could see using it to pop the back off a quartz. I cut french bread and split a bagel with the saw on my Walker and now I want this blade for spreading condiments etc, as I like to eat outdoors during the lockdown
Great idea for a first knife. Thank you for the review.
Wow great video Colonel. You're an inspiration
Because of the rounded tip I would most likely use it as a butter knife
Jeff have you thought about making a video on your favorite knives you’ve handled throughout your years in the edc community? I think it would be interesting to see what knives you have enjoyed/were impressed by out of the hundreds of knives you have handled. Keep up the good work and stay rockin!
I just got my cutlery lover/blade hq exclusive knife in the mail and i love this tiny thing. Keep it up man love your videos.
thanks for the support Lance :) Hope you enjoy it
i have to say that out of all the little accidents ive had with a knife since i was a kid have been with the cutting edge and not with the sharp point. On the other hand i can see those accidents happening for example fallin over with the knife in your hand.
well for me I cut stabbed myself on accident the 1st week I got my 1st knife at 9, but to be fair I cut myself with the edge within minutes of getting it first, hahaha
Super cute little blade
you know to take care when Jeff tells you to take care.
My first knife was a victorinox executive with stainless scales that my dad gave me, I still have, and use it. I still carry a victorinox daily, a tech tool. BTW, Wenger are now owned by Victorinox.
I need one of those lanyards, got the boker multi tool from battlbox for the boys birthday, was too late for this one!
I inherited a SAK from my grandfather and it has the same blade shape. Not from factory of course, as a kid I got a little rough with it and broke the tip off lol
Your a good uncle. Two thumbs up. Peace.
My first victorinox was a tinker small. When i was 12 years old.
I started carrying it since 2018 cuz i found it suits my profession more
I want to get one for my 7 year old son
My first knife was a small dull-edged toy-like knife. I had it since I was 6.
Still have it somewhere today.
Although it is just a toy, the stainless steel blade is still in good condition.
Great video Jeff as always. Would have been nice for this knife to have a half stop or even a sequences of stops like the Manly wasp, when I was a kid the only times I ever cut myself with a victorinox was when it closed unexpected or sprang shut. I can't say I ever "poked" myself with the barely pointy spear point they come with anyway... My first Opinel is even better, it is not under spring tension, has a rounded tip, and even locks open and closed with the virobloc. It's also very cheap, under $30 (best guess offhand, probably closer to $20). Can't understand why there wouldn't at least be a half stop. I also never understood why SAKs didn't evolve to add a liner lock. I have some traditional folders (GEC) with a liner lock, especially for all of the parts and liners and everything that the SAK people include it should only be a natural progression. It's a nice idea but in my mind the first victorinox thing is a fail. Awesome video though keep it up.
Opinel and mora make safety knifes like this as well
Hey man can you do a video about knife to use during winter time I dont know about everyone but titanium and metal handles get very cold to the touch during winter
W00t w00t for the noobz
Also, the breakaway lanyard is classy for all
I remember some nasty cuts from the saw blade of my first sak.
Cool video
Yeah great knife for a kids first knife!
There is one marketed for dofe (a British award) but it is like $10 more
I wanna buy that for the lanyard. Victorinox neck knife? I bet I could just get the lanyard somewhere. I like having a sak on my person but I'm liking less and less pocket clutter lately. Maybe I'll fiddle with a piece of kydex.
Is there any Swiss army styled knives that can be opened one handed?
That to me would be the ultimate SAK and I don’t get why Victorinox doesn’t make one?
Also do know about the larger knives they make with the Spyderco hole, in wanting something around this size and traditional looking.
LOL maybe I need one of these. I once had to get stitches on my finger for playing with a knife....I was in my 30s.
Good pipe knife
best sentence on this channel ever "My first Wenger" by cutlerylover. I did not want to give my niece her "My first Wenger" so I bought a Victorinox.
I bought a Swiss Army knife on Etsy and it came all the way from Portugal it has titanium scales it said it was going to take like an entire month get there but I got there in like 3 or 4 weeks mind you I live in Northern Nevada
Craig Burwell I thought a month was four weeks?
@@rockhunter6260 I don't know but it it got here 2 weeks early so I don't know the exact math
I got one of these for my kid, but I found the knife frustrating. You can’t easily tell where the sharpened edge starts, which makes lots of cuts annoying.
I like the chain and would use it with my victorinox. Do you know of anywhere I can get one.
its cool right? lol I dont know of it specifically sold on its own but im sure it can be found online somewhere maybe google wallet chain as its pretty much the same thing...
I'm 10 and I carry a ZT 0 450
Nice I'm also ten and I carry a benchmade.
I remember my first pocket knife at around nine or ten. Run of the mill, drop point profile. I only stabbed myself once with it, maybe a quarter inch deep. Once was all it took to learn though! Now I'm pretty mindful.
Great video. Getting 3 for my kids. Ages 10,11,12
nice I hope they enjoy them...of course every parent has their own rules as to when they can use them and how :)
I've cut myself a few times with my SAK. Never with the pointy tip. A few times when the spring closed it on my finger, a few times when I was careless with the knife sharpener.
this
i always recomend the Opinel Outdoor Junior when someone wants to buy a knife for their kid at the store i work at.
This is odd, I often hear about people having a the blade of a sak close on them, but I've never experienced it myself, and I've carried one for 30yrs. I'm not saying you, or anyone else for that matter, is wrong, I just wonder what it is that I'm doing, or not doing, differently.
I personally STRONGLY recommend the Opinel Outdoors Junior NO.7. www.opinel.com/en/multifunction/n7-outdoor-junior/n7-outdoor-junior-purple
Beeing in the lucky position of Selling knives for a Job, i think Victorinoxes are not the best choice for Young children who didn't have propper training as they don't lock and there are thousands of horror Storys of the spring buckling and either cutting themselves badly or even loosing a part of their finger...
the tip of the Opinel is only slightly blunted and can easily be ground to a fine point once they are old enough and the lock prevents any Nasty mistakes. On top of that the Opinel is just more Sturdy in general and even has a nifty Whistle in the Grip and we all know how kids love to make noise! xD
id strongly recommend looking into these knives instead or alongside of the victorinox ...or maybe for when your Nephew is old enough for his first knife!
Much love and Greetings from Germany (funnily enougth)
AYellowPepper!
I have never poked myself until recently but knowing me I probaly would slice my fingers
Try to bring your merch to Europe.
👍
You know what I call a knife like that? A foxy knoxy.
Looks like it could spread cream cheese or a cheese ball on crackers!😆
Jeff, I personally I think that another great first knife option for kids is the "Leatherman Leap." It's the first multitool specifically designed for young kids. It has a sharp Sheepsfoot style blade that comes completely separate in the box, when the child shows enough responsibility their parents can simply add/attach the sharp blade to the Leatherman Leap. The Leatherman Leap also has a really interesting lock system for all of its tools, where the lock is on the outside of the plastic handle so the tools can be safely closed with out having to put your fingers in the way of the tool as you close it like you would with a liner lock. Jeff, check out these links to a youtube video of the Leatherman Leap and Leathermans website page for it - ruclips.net/video/r2f02Nto0Sc/видео.html&feature=emb_logo - www.leatherman.com/leap-358.html
they discontinued it :(
This is pretty cool. My first knife was actually a Victorinox too. I got the classic while my older brother got whatever full sized version our Walmart had in the early to mid 90’s. Later my brother’s would be handed down to me for my second knife. Before all that I had a playdough Swiss Army style toy knife.
I would get my kids this someday (when/if I have them someday). I think the tweezers and tooth pick also make for a cool first knife as a kid too. -but I grew up on MacGyver reruns so take that with a grain of salt.
I’m more of a Leatherman fan these days and prefer my folding knives to lock in some way, but there’s still something about a Victorinox. I like the alox cadet, but I would never have that as my only knife on me.
Idk if that’s a great tool for kids, I have sliced more bits of my hands and stuff then I have ever stabbed. But I guess this makes it less likely for the kid to fall on it and be fatal. A really good vid overall
"My first wanger"
Mora safe pro
“My first wanker”
My first wank
xD its such an unfortunate name for englisch speaking people! xD
Just me or is the volume VERY LOUD, almost busted an eardrum.
sorry not sure whats the problem but Id check your settings seems ok here
@@cutlerylover The problem was my wired headphones, havent used them in a while, volume is always higher on those for some reason, my bad.😅
@@wesleysonck7314 haha sorry it was loud anyway glad you figured it out
Safety features like this just make people more careless.
What if your niece and nephew watch this ( '-' )
I know they dont watch my youtube videos
