Most I will go over retail would be 10 to 15%. No juice is worth $300 plus imo.

I disagree, there are plenty bourbons I’d pay more than 300 for, BUT I totally get it. That’s A LOT to spend on a single bottle.

I wish the bourbon community made videos about how to purchase sought after bottles at retail rather than promoting secondary by suggesting acceptable prices when retail should be the only acceptable price. With that being said great video and I respect everyone’s right to spend their money how they choose! Cheers!

I feel like the “how I get allocated bottles” video from me would be very unhelpful and very boring. I have a lot of connections through friends and through making videos that helps me, so the video would not be helpful and could come off braggadocios and I don’t want to come off that way when I’m very grateful for the relationships I’ve made locally. This video wasn’t to promote the secondary in fact on one bottle featured was purchased via secondary (JD 10 batch 2) and only because it’s not available anymore via retail. This video was more “these are so good if you had to pay more you wouldn’t be mad.” Appreciate the support! Cheers to you!

with allocated bourbon you either have the time, connections or the money. every now and then luck comes into play. but this video is legit and goes with the money part.

There a couple of videos out there from other reviewers. The main thing is to establish a relationship with the owner of the liquor store. Be friendly and share your whiskey stories them. Another point they have made was to walk out of any store that gouges on the allocated items...which I have done a couple of times. I know people need to eat...but steak and lobster every night is not on me! Spend what you wish...but I am only willing to spend 20% more than MSRP. I did overspend once...shame on me...not again. Too many great tasting bottles out there to enjoy. If you can find a whiskey festival that has a bunch of various distillers...that is an awesome place to try several different items...especially those that you haven't had before! Cheers! 🥃

I was in Japan in May. With the exchange rate, the Wild Turkey 12 was about $50 each. It was the Japanese whiskey that was crazy expensive there. I could only fit 4 bottles in my suitcase

If you're spending more than $100 on a bottle of bourbon you're literally wasting your money lmao. How about your promote some bottles that people can actually get their hands on rather than telling people to go out and spend $250 on a Jack 12 only to be disappointed.

Ah you’re one of the “no bourbon is worth X amount of money” guys. Fair enough, but A) I’ll spend my money however I choose and so should you.
AND B) I am going out on a limb and assuming you have not watched any of my other videos.
Do a deep dive on my other videos, I have done the videos you’re requesting. Three of my favorite bottles in 2024 have been 50, 30 and 20 dollars. I praised the Rebel Small Batch and the Jim Beam 7 year. Cheers homie!

I live in northern NJ and I can tell you that I have NEVER seen a bottle of Antique Weller for anything less than $200!
You know my opinion on the JD 10 ( average at best ) but I got my bottle of JD 12 Batch 2 for $125 when it first came out. Right place , right time kind of event. Definitely worth the price I paid! I have never had the EH Taylor single barrel, but I paid $75 for my small batch bottle and its great.
Overall I have been noticing a small decrease in prices across the board for allocated bottles and I hope this trend continues because good whiskey should be available to all at reasonable prices! Cheers!

I am more of a cheapskate and will only pay a max of $31 a bottle. I would like to try the 3 Hardin's Creek Boston, Clermont and Frankfort in the 200 ml bottles, but they cost $150 plus, closer to $200 at a greedy store near me that has it. The 100 proof Old Grand-Dad made in Clermont KY near Bernheim Forest is good enough for me, at $21.

The secondary prices we have to deal with now were not the case just a short time ago. Pre-covid secondary prices were what? Typically about 1.5x retail for most things and more often than not bottles were traded. Secondary prices presently that run from 3x-10x retail aren't about anything but ripping people off. The juice in the bottle does not improve just because somebody else got their hands on it before you were able to. These flippers and speculators add no value to those bottles, they only add further cost. Nobody should be advocating for any further cost beyond MSRP.
While some of these bottles are very good and indeed worthy of praise, I just can't advocate supporting secondary prices. Bourbon is a consumable, it's meant to be opened and enjoyed. I am in no hurry to have to spend even more money than I already have to, to get bottles that will in time be emptied. All good things must come to an end.
