I love the iron ones. Especially the first iteration was intimidating. I wish the free game wasn’t so boring or I would have switched my hero roster to just iron ones.

I made a rework of the entire free game campaign. I will release it on steam. It has lots of Iron Ones.

It's funny how Rondar Lacaine isn't even a scholar, but a mere preacher leading a cult lol.

I know the video is already two years old, but there are some things which should be taken into account:
It is not enough to create an army of undead to win a war, you also have to command them. Even a circle mage cannot be everywhere at once.
In his normal undead army each group was controlled by a more powerful creature. Groups of those commanding creatures were then controlled by an even more powerfull creature and so on. The more troups you want to command the more powerful the creatures at the top ranks have to be.
In shadow of the phoenix you encounter several weaker soul forgers, which suggests that the iron ones are following the same logical order.
So the main reason Hokan needed such a long time would not be to invent the iron ones but to create a creature that is powerful enough to command such a huge number of exceptional powerful creatures as the iron ones, namely the Soul forger.
Another argument in favor of this theory is, that in Breath of Winter Hokan as the masked one says, that each iron one is made with the soul of several people.
I would be reasonable to asume that Lacain only used a single soul for his iron ones and that they are the more powerfull but also the more difficult to controll the more souls they are made of.
It is therefore quite plausible to assume that the creation of these simple iron ones was possible for Lacaine with the knowledge of the shaper. Hokan improved his design then by using more soulstones per iron one and it took him a few centuries to find out how he could create a creature that was powerfull enough to controll a huge number of them, the soul forger.
That he did not use them before although he knew how to create a smaller number of them could be also explained:
Since it is not explained anywhere where the tormented souls for the Iron Ones actually come from, I would asume that he collected them during the course of the war first, for example by torturing prisoners of war of the Red Legion or something similar.
I would then asume that he had to use a large number of these souls to create the Soul Forger.
That would also explain how Rohen could steal the Iron One's secret so easily.
Since Hokan as a spirit did no longer have access to the Archfire, he also no longer had control over the Soulforger and the Iron ones fell apart
After the convocation Rohen only had to reactivate and control the Soulforger with his own Archfire power, Hokan could not stop him.
Otherwise one has to ask how Rohen could create such a huge army in only 8 years after the convocation and where all tortured souls came from.
For his new army of Iron ones in shadow of the phoenix he probably collected the remains from the old soul forger which has been destroyed by the Phoenix bearer and created a new one or maybe a group of smaller ones.

From my playthrough of SF3, I remember there being something about the 'Iron Ones' there being multiple mages forced into a metal body in the mountain forge. It isn't really explained how that happens though.

SF3 is a disgrace and ruind the lore of these.
Hokan Ashir created the "Iron ones" during the convocation against Uram the Red
SF3 ruins almost everything SF1 built up and it pains me how much they've ruined this series. The devs of the 3rd game didnt do their job and they've admitted it.

Always nice to see more spellforce videos. Btw, if you want the progress bar in the video to be segmented into chapters try making the timestamps in the description into 0:00 xxx format instead of xxx: 0:00
    00:37
    History
    02:50
    Rune Wars
    06:05
    Dragon Storm
    07:41 SpellForce 3
I've seen it in a few videos already and it's really usefull for when you don't want to keep looking down to the description for timestamps
    Cheers :)

Awesome video! Longer videos might take more of your time but they're certainly worth it!
It's probably one of the things I hate most about SF3 so I fully agree with you, the Blades are such an integral part of Hokan's story and Uram's battles which is also why I can never accept their addition in SF3, Yasha for as much as I dislike the design, at least it's explained and her Blades can't compare with her father's as the Shaper Conqueress mentions, Rondar simply couldn't create them so easily but the worst part about their addition is how it cheapens Hokan's story by not making them unique to him.

From the asthetic and the idea behind them I always liked the ones from 1 and 3 most, even if the ones from 3 came out of nothing, they still had that idea of being created from tortured souls behind them.
The Iron ones from Dragon Storm in my mind always looked a little bit stupid, to colorful for violent creatures of war and bloodshed. They also made the Dragon blood pretty much a constantly reusable gimmick, it seemed like there was nothing you couldn't do with some Dragon blood.

@@Wormic I agree that it makes sense that it is this powerful, but since this is the basis of Malacays plan in Shadow Wars, Malacays plans during the Hybernian Empire, the whole design of the Shaikan as a race AND the Iron Ones, I still think it becomes overused, not from a lore perspective, but from a narrative one.
With the Allfire there is already a substance that can do nearly anything. I think this is cheapened if you have to many of these substances.

    • @timmerk7363
      @timmerk7363 4 года назад +1

@@Wormic Well, considering that except the Allfire all of them can be traced back to Aonir, I would imagine the person achieving this would gain immense power obviously, and the results would have to do something with Aonir.
Maybe you could magically reverse engineer his blood with the Allfire as outside power source, then you would basically get a godstone in your possession. Or you would become an avatar of Aonir or summon him back to Eo. At least this are the scenarios I would imagine. Not considering the absolutely ridiculous power of course.

yes lacaine was only a priest but he had the power of the arche fire after absorbing tahars mums power ( a shaper ) in the mission " The Eye " . i know he still came up with the idea out of no where but he was powerfull indeed . immortal and had to be banish because there was no other way of beating him . 2 the " god of light " was giving lacaine the others ( A creature that tells us it lives in the past , future and present in the multiverse ) so maybe he learnt it from it .

I have aswer for the sf3 iron ones they were the first and hokan knew about them but they were symply an experiment and as far as i read just crap and a resource dump so hokan made the black ones as a wiable model. The hardest thing was to repair the waste of men and metal

@@Wormic maybe they used a neckromancy and just added bone powder to iron and packed the iron with blod by making a sup melting the iron and forging those armors with strong bindings of the souls

@@Wormic well then , if it thoesnt work then i have nothing. They just sacrificed 5 mages in a scrap blender and the wraith or watever posest the armor and they bound the wraith with magic. But it is a big gamble so it still crap. If there isnt any explanation the creators just use some its actualy an elemental in armor or they had a demon who did this but they dont know how or why, or maybe this is just a mecanical golem like that iron guy from the city of gold. THAT GIANT IRON GOLEM DEFFENDING THE KING do we have any idea what it is because it isnt the iron one from that era, sf1 the phoenix campain iron warior of the king

to me the iron ones in sf3 are the same concept but not blades themselves, more it is the mages themselves that the purity captures and tourched with the iron mask and then fused to control it simular to like a dreadnought from 40k, rather then the real blades which use the soul stones. also how they know to make it might have come from the lord of light as we know he likes nom noming souls and all that. but yea i do feel that their inclusion is a bit confusing and would have like a better explanation but hay ho something cool to smash

Spellforce 3 is so bullshit at some points stuff is already there before it actually happened. Hokan was the first and only one besides young Rohen to create Iron Ones so a simple priest couldnt even get as far as to think about them because they never existed before. Sometimes i would just like to go up to the makers of Spellforce 3 and Punch their faces for hours.
Great Video thou, spellforce was the first game ive ever played and am currently playing again.
