What a time to be there with bodies being found. I think anyone who lived in Vegas isn't surprised. Such a shame. So sad to see water levels down. Thanks Russ. Love the way you film and narrate your videos! Perfect everytime!!!
Someone in Vegas knows who at least one of those bodies is..... Probably a few people in fact.... It took more than one person to get them into the barrel, and then get the barrel on a boat, and then off the boat into the reservoir... I wanna know who it was!!!! I lived in Vegas in that time frame 78-83
One of my best friends from high school lived in Vegas in the 60s and 70s. He said bodies were found in the desert on a regular basis. This is the desert outside Lake Mead. This is why you hear so many sources say there will be more bodies found as the lake level goes down.

Greg Braden has a great story. New Mexico was experiencing a great drought a few years back. A Native American friend said to him, let's go pray. They got to an area where the friend drew a circle in the desert earth, he took off his shoes and sat in the circle. In a few minutes he said, let's go get something to eat. Greg said wait, we didn't pray, what were you doing in the circle? The friend said I was envisioning the rain, I could smell the rain, I could feel the rain, I could feel the mud squish between my toes. Shortly, they heard thunder, rain clouds came in, it started raining, it rained and it rained and it rained. Greg said ok, that's enough, make it stop. The friend said my ancestors didn't tell me that part!! Let's all collectively feel, smell and squish our toes in the rain for this area and for Lake Mead.
I’m from there!! I lived there for 40 years. That’s the old railroad tunnels. You can walk through them. I wouldn’t do it when it’s hot 🥵 can get snaky. Lake Mead will only fill back up when Las Vegas quits building pools and water features. I remember in the 80’s and 90’s it rained so much it used to flood down there. They would have to use the spillway to get rid of water. I just stumbled on to this. I left about 5 years ago and moved to the mountains of Idaho. So much more peace and quiet. I hope you enjoyed your trip.
Hi Russ, thanks for posting this. My wife and I moved to Las Vegas in February 1981. We spent 32 years there and raised four kids. We saw a lot of growth during that time. We spent a lot of time at Lake Mead. I got my diving certification at Lake Mead. In 1983 we saw the spillways in use. In 2006 we bought a motorhome and hit the road. We still have two our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren there. Have fun and stay safe.
My dad was big on fishing and Lake Mead was a favorite of his till it got so crowded with speed boaters. He fished the lake since it was brand new. I used to go fishing there pretty often in the 40's, 50'sand 60's. I haven't been back since 1968. Lived too far away and life took me away from the lake. It's really sad to see the lake so low.

Gosh, I remember renting a 50 foot houseboat when the water was all the way up and spending a week exploring the lake. It is amazing to see it so low and the lake so small. With that new water collection tunnel for Las Vegas, it is likely to become a 12 mud puddle when it is all said and done. It is a shame Las Vegas does not find a way to stop taking Millions (Billions?) of gallons and let the lake fill. When it is gone, it is gone. :(
Las Vegas doesn't take much water. More than 80% is used by farms in Southern California. Southern Nevada only takes what is allowed by decades old water agreements.
More stadiums, and hotel rooms flushing away that water- it’s hard to believe farm irrigation uses more. But I don’t know. Probably best not to use it all up
Exactly right. But it is the People of the USA that NEED to stop being so wastful. The USA makes up over 80% of the WORLDS consumables 🤯 (they say 90% but that just cannot be right so I'm being nice) a very wasteful society. And sadly Canada is trying to copy but cannot get 10% as close. I always would have guessed china was the top most wasteful but not so. I can sit at 5pm and watch the USA suck the water out of lake Ontario daily and all the birds get sucks out the wrong way from where they should be going😮💨😔.... water and life is precious we must be careful ALL of us.
JR, I too had the pleasure of renting one of those beautiful houseboats for a glorious week's vacation on that beautiful lake. I'm glad I got the chance to experience it.

Hi Russ! Watching the Lake Mead video. Yes you can stay overnight in the hoover dam lodge and casino parking lot up on the hill. Next time you should walk out on the dock out to the marina and restaurant. There is a school of striped bass that follow you up and down the dock, looking for a handout. Cool! When you get up towards lake Powell be sure to check out Lees Ferry and the horseshoe bend below the Glen canyon dam. We enjoy your videos, we get to relive our travels in AZ. We just returned from there to MT for the summer
I liked the drive and your narration. I visited Lake Mead in the 80's, my mom and my aunt her only sister, lived in Henderson. We visited the lake. They since have passed away but it brought me memories of a good time gone by. It is very sad to see what is happening and it just makes us aware "global warming" is for real. I wish there was a way to pump in water. It's not the dead bodies news that brought me to your video, it's the dying beautiful lake.
The earth changes naturally. Alberta used to be a tropical forest. It was completely different. Drumheller has a huge museum of Dinosaurs who lived in a beautiful temperate environment. It's sure not tropical anymore.
Thank you for your reporting very sad to see used to live there starting visiting in 1998 got to actually see lake Mead full there are solutions they could have built a water pipeline well over a decade ago and they knew this and they know this let's hope it works its way out.
🌟 RUSS!🌟 This was so good, always enjoy your vlogs.. I really hope that you return to Boulder City and go to Hemenway Park!! Please Google to see pics and I'm sure you'll go😀 can't wait to see you there! Stay safe and healthy ❤love from Las Vegas
We stayed at the RV park fall 2020 it was pretty nice. There are a lot of great spots to check out along that road around the lake. We love lake mead. The north rim opens May 15 if you haven’t been you should check it out. A little out of the way going to lake Powell but worth it. Great video thanks 👍🏼
We saw this coming a long time ago. Does anyone believe the mega-resorts claim that they don't use a lot of water? Did 'Vegas' ever add the extra pipes lower in the lake to keep drawing water?
Watching your video makes me so sad but I had some beautiful memories out there the terrain is harsh but it's cool in a way what can be done is beautiful my daughter was born in Phoenix and I used to travel all around Arizona Nevada California one more time would be nice have a great day and thank you for sharing
🙋This was really a nice day. The Visitor Center/Gift Shop was small, but rather nice & informative along with making guests aware of the wildlife. The Marina was nicer at one time. With the water level low, the houseboats looked somewhat congested. Maybe not. Lake Mead has a beautiful blue color. The campground looks nice. 👍
You hit the nail on the head rest because my mother had been there way back and she said it was all Mafia ran. Therefore the bodies were the dump ground in the lake
In February we camped at that same RV Park side of that campground as you did. We needed their hot showers and laundry. Very friendly staff...It's all gravel and quite ugly really... The dry camping side ( no showers or laundry ) however is MUCH prettier, cheaper, and with actual trees, plants, and bushes. Down at the Marina we walked around with our dog and there were these giant fish in the water begging for food. Huge mouths open looking for a hand out. Our dog was fascinated by them! Crazy fish, been there forever people said.
Great ride along. Mountains all around, nice views. That's sad the lake keeps going down. Seems as though the government would get pumping some water in, need a plan, going to effect a lot of people. That was a beautiful topographical map. Thank you, you do such nice videos. 🙂👍
Where do you think they are going to pump the water from? Mead is the largest man made reservoir in the U.S. Lake Powell is second and it is also at record low.
@@davidgale4604 Well Dave, since I'm in the medical field, I wouldn't begin to know where to fix this problem. Maybe piped in ocean water. I know that this didn't just happen, and a lot of people are effected by water restrictions, and drought in that area; and have been in many western states. Those that are working in that field need to step it up with a solution. Maybe with midterms coming up, this would be a good thing for one of the candidates to get involved in? I don't live in that area, but I feel for those that do.
@@susanstrickland6774 Yeah, let's deplete the ocean for green lawns and golf courses. And then figure out how to get the salt out so you can drink it. I can hear it now.
@@flappinwings7274 Like I said, don't work in the water field. I never mentioned grass watering, sustaining life would be more a goal I would lean toward. Have a great day.
The colorado river cant sustain the amount of population increased demand and we are also in a super drought at the same time. There are talks about piping water from the missouri ruver to the green river in utah which would eventually supply the colorado river. But that may take decades.
If it's all the way down to 28% , it makes one wonder how many hard-core pounding winter storms over how many seasons it would take to refill this tragic disaster?
Those palms at the end - those are part of what really heavily exasperates the water problems down there. Those are Tropical Palms, which require obscene amounts of water 24/7. You see them all throughout Nevada and California, and major portions of Arizona, and in the cities and suburbs, they literally have to install water pipes directly underneath them so that they have 24/7 watering. That's how ridiculously thirsty these palms are if you don't want them to die, and want them to maintain the signature look and aesthetic too many have gotten used to now.
WoW raised in phx never knew about the water usage for palms?I personally heard in the 70s water shortage didn't like wasting water. Here's reality ouch sad. Thanks
Hey, Russ I was Vegas and all the memories of the beach and going on friends boats And yah the water was deep and cold. I even remember Willow Beach hot rocks and water to cool a 12 pack. I want to ride from the trail from visitors center to the dam in the fall. Memories holes in the desert and oozing barrels, a CSI story. I hear Voice narration..somewhere. I still swam there growing up.
Beautiful. As far as the water level goes, a pipeline from the Missouri river or Mississippi river would go a long way to alleviate the western water shortage, and reduce flooding in the east.
So would better policies by California politicians for water management instead of dumping literally hundreds of millions of gallons into the ocean to satiate the environmental wackos
That makes too much sense to be done. Just like California taking the salt out of the ocean water that is rising because of " climate change!" Solutions that could be but won't happen.
What happens in Vegas sometimes stays in the bottom of Mead ...

The strip is not restricted from water usage. There's plenty of waste.
JR, I too had the pleasure of renting one of those beautiful houseboats for a glorious week's vacation on that beautiful lake. I'm glad I got the chance to experience it.
Wow that was a treat. Thanks for the informative tour, replete with barrel find news "clipping". Indeed, the crimes are "unearthed".
Was there back in the 50s as a young boy. Was on a tour out of Knoxville TN on Knoxville Tours Inc. My mind just will not comprehend how it must have looked even tho I took over 500 slides during the trip. Good job and enjoyed this.
It would be a fantastic slide show for youtube.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane
You really love the desert ! It’s nice not to see so many crowds- I remember it best with only small crowds, then they’d leave on Sunday and we’d get our town back
Just when you think you can dump a body in the lake and it would never be found… who ever thought an extreme drought would expose it! 👍😂
Wow! I read the deepest part of this lake is/was 530 feet!! So I wonder what the deepest part is now?
Thanks for sharing your adventures. You'll have to make your way back through the Las Vegas ghost town in a few years !
Yup, Hoover Dam Lodge is nice! 👍👍👍
uummmm i think those fish are carp. if that;s your thing
Beautiful video,,,and really nice views 👌 👏 ❤,,Keep on traveling and always be Safe,,,peace ✌ and 💘
I liked the drive and your narration.
Thank you for making history videos like this cause not to many people do
We were just at that camp ground about a month ago. Had a great time. Great videos.
Thanks for another interesting trip!
Thanks for the great tour,so sad to see Mead that low.
Thanks. Loved the scenery
I came to Vegas about 8 years ago from Maryland. Cool stuff and visited Hoover while there
Hiked the old rail trail in the 80s. There were big horn sheep in the mountains. Went through the dam on the tour.
Great trip.
WOW your beginning shot is amazing
Thank you for your reporting very sad to see used to live there starting visiting in 1998 got to actually see lake Mead full there are solutions they could have built a water pipeline well over a decade ago and they knew this and they know this let's hope it works its way out.
Yup....Lake Powell sounds like a plan!.....thanks as always!
Beautiful and interesting video. Thank you!
We toured the dam four years ago. Fascinating. Hate to see the lake so low.
🌟 RUSS!🌟
This was so good, always enjoy your vlogs.. I really hope that you return to Boulder City and go to Hemenway Park!! The park not only has an amazing view over Lake Mead but!! 🐑 has herds of big horn sheep that roam the park! Its Amazing!! Please Google to see pics and I'm sure you'll go😀 can't wait to see you there! Stay safe and healthy ❤love from Las Vegas
When the old mob ran Vegas it was great! Food and lodging were cheap. Shows were great.
Very cool Russ 😎 safe travels!
Thanks for sharing very nice trip
Totally up for a new Lake Powell video!
Thanks for taking us along.
Wondering if medal detectors are allowed?????
Omg this is a great video my husband and I always planned to see the parks but he passed in 97
Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to seeing your visit to Lake Powell.
Been there 2 xs.
Cool beans and interesting 💕👵
Always good to see your videos, can't wait to see you in Quartzsite next fall be safe and have fun
Yes go to powell !! My favorite spot on earth!
Wjy didnt u feed the fish ? Speaks volukes that you did not help them. Sicl
@@christinemott8799 could have been signs that say don't feed the fish. Although I'm a firm believer fish need love as well.
Wave of a magic wand or something … water is life! Well, I’m glad the weather was as beautiful as ever!
Sounds Good, just watched a short program on Lake Powell. Very Interesting video , thank you.
hi Russ, been busy, catching up...neat bridge!
I love history I wish all I want to do is travel I wished I could see that place it's amazing
If it's all the way down to 28% , it makes one wonder how many hard-core pounding winter storms over how many seasons it would take to refill this tragic disaster?
I was thinking the same thing. I hope people in that area don't need much water. The mountains around in that area look dry to the bone
i like your videos here Russ!
Great vid ! Been there 1990 . Can't find out what to write seeing this. Greetings from the EU !
RVerTV Thank you for hearting my comment. Can you tell me what that card is you used to get into the park?
Thanks
Did they find Jimmy Haffa yet?? I’m really not comfortable with the lack of rain in the West Coast. I like your accent.
Crazy Geology around the Dam. But then again, the entire South West is a Geologists paradise.
Wow amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing ❤ ✌
Just like California taking the salt out of the ocean water that is rising because of " climate change!"
Solutions that could be but won't happen.
Don't think so. Try getting all the ppl out there start praying for rain..
It’s so sad.
It’s mind blowing as well.
I can remember going there when it was all the way up
and you’d be driving under 35ft of water
NOTHER GREAT VIDEO RUSS THANKS
