Same here! I found his channel in 2015. made a huge difference in my photograpy life eventhough I do it as a hobby. one of my photographs was selected as the best in a week of a photography group in Sri Lanka. You were a huge inspiration to me. But with the busy life, I was unable to continue my photograpy. So sold my 5D mk 3 and now taking few photos here and there with my 15 pro. Please keep doing your great works. You are a great role model. ❤❤

Ten years ago when I was 72 I was still going strong and chasing birds in the wildlife management areas, making lots of prints for sale, traveling to different areas to camp. Now, ten years and three strokes and a bad fall later I've slowed down... a lot. It's kind of disappointing not being able to get out and walk around The Pond for wildlife photographs or drive to some of my favorite wildlife places and inns and restaurants. But realizing I'm lucky to even be here and have my loving wife of 63 years still with me after her two bouts with cancer, I'm happy to make the most of what I can still do. And my pictures are still winning awards occasionally in the local galleries. Life is good and I'm thankful. I don't think I've been with you from the beginning but I don't think I've missed one of your videos since I discovered your channel several years ago.

I rarely comment on videos, but 8 years ago I was in a very dark place when I discovered your channel. I ended up watching every single upload you had back then in the span of a week & I started to go on more walks & photograph things to distract my mind. After all these years, I’m still watching & I’m in a much better place now. Your channel definitely had a part in that which is something I’ll always be grateful for. Thank you.

You are by far the most interesting and enthusiastic photographer for me. I remember seeing you in person at Gary Gough’s studio when he invited you to give a talk some years ago now. Keep presenting as you do and I wish you continued success in your chosen profession and I hope to god I will still be supporting you in another 10 years. My best regards…Richard Farrar.

Sigue asi, eres una gran persona y un gran fotógrafo.

But I'm always happy to watch your videos, buy your books (when money allows), and preorder your calendars. Thanks for the YEARS of entertainment and explorations: from Nepal to the lake district, and from that Q&A video you did in some Mediterranean climate, to that era where you discovered telephoto lenses JUST MIGHT be better at landscape photography than super wide lenses.
I hope this art and channel forever bring you joy. Cheers, Thomas 🎉

This was a nice reminder that time flies. I have been tuning in almost every week since around 2015 - at that time in university, looking to buy a DSLR as my only camera at that time was an old Nokia phone. I've loved all of your overnight camps on top of mountains, because for me it combines the rewarding feeling of climbing up a mountain as well as the tranquillity of those sunsets and sunrises. Sometimes I think that I bought the DSLR just to be outside more and be there for those precious moments. You have helped me to find one of my true life passions.
Last but not least I've learned a lot from you, for example I'm always on the lookout for pictures looking away from the sunset/sunrise as well as searching for the intimate details if the light does not show up.
And one more thing. You've introduced me to the beauty of the landscapes, that your country has to offer and I am longing for the day to finally see it with my own eyes.
    Thank you for everything.

    Hi Thomas,
I'm usually too shy to comment, and I never thought it would be specifically relevant, but I am one of those 'few' (maybe not so few from seeing some of the other comments) that can say I have genuinely seen every single video that you have ever released on this channel. I had one of your first 10 videos recommended to me, I went back and watched the others, and have been subscribed ever since (29 September 2015, according to an online tool I found).
It's honestly made me a bit emotional watching this video, not only because I still clearly remember the original one (which is the one that made me decide to subscribe), but also because it hit me that it's been pretty much a decade since that time in my life and despite everything that's changed with me, the regular Heaton videos have just become such a mainstay on my feed that I never would have imagined I've actually been regularly watching for that long.
It's been amazing to see your channel progress and although, as you say, the main format hasn't really fundamentally changed, I think the growth in you as a photographer has been plain to see and is truly inspirational. What really sticks out to me is the honesty of your videos, you show the mistakes and the disappointment and are frank about what you can learn and take away from it, and not just the times where it all goes right that make me say 'oh wow' out loud when the image is revealed. Subscriptions to other photography channels have come and gone but yours is the only one that's stuck because for my money, this is the best channel for actual photography on RUclips.
Cheers for everything you do, and I hope that I can make the same comment again in another 10 years!

  • @WilliamtsaiPhotography
    @WilliamtsaiPhotography Месяц назад +1

I started watching your videos in early 2017. You were the first photography channel I ever followed, or rather, my first and favorite landscape photographer. I can honestly say that if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have such a deep passion for landscape photography today in 2024. For at least the past seven years, watching your videos every week has been an important and much-anticipated part of my life. I would watch your videos while having dinner after work, and then spend my weekends doing some landscape photography of my own.
To be honest, my English isn’t very good, but watching you travel through the world’s breathtaking sceneries has made me feel as if I’ve been experiencing them alongside you for the past seven years. From 2022 to early 2024 was the darkest period in my journey as a landscape photographer. For various reasons, I even thought about giving up photography entirely. But when I reopened your videos and walked with you through the beautiful Lake District or chased snow leopards in Mongolia’s icy wilderness, it was your videos that pulled me out of the darkness and inspired me to make the bold decision to start my own RUclips channel.
I have to say, this video deeply moved me. Although I wasn’t one of the viewers who discovered you back in 2014, I’ve seen that first video where your journey began, and it has stayed with me ever since. I’m sorry for writing so much, but words simply can’t express how much I want to say. I just want to tell you I’m so happy to hear you say at the end of the video that you’ll continue creating youtube video. To me, you are the best landscape photographer and RUclipsr!

I’ve been following along since the very beginning! I was just starting to get into photography in early 2015 and I stumbled upon your channel. I binged the few videos you had at the time and was hooked. You were the only one showing what landscape photography was all about, the highs, the lows, and what it actually takes to make a good image. Most of the time, the general viewer of a strong landscape photograph doesn’t have an appreciation for what the photographer did to capture it. You showed what it took to really make the best photographs, along with your constant message of enjoying the process and just being outside. I have used that as my inspiration ever since to guide my own photographic journey and I hope I inspire others to get out and find their own magic in nature. I don’t think I’ve missed one of your videos since. Thanks a lot, Tom. You are appreciated.

You were my very first RUclips Channel. I watch you riding your bike around taking photos of local landscapes. I had just come back from Borneo, caught an unidentified virus (never identified), lost hearing in one ear, heart and lung damage, couldn't get off the lounge for exhaustion. My son showed me RUclips to keep me entertained and I picked your thumbnail. Over the next few weeks I watched all your episodes and to this day, every Thursday I watch from Australia. In fact, you inspired me to start my own Channel, Sharyn's Shenanigans. My photography isn't as technical or as good as yours, so I mix it up with a bit of a travel blog but in the end, you're the reason my family have to watch me every Friday night! I'm sure they'd thank you for that if they ever met you, lol. Keep up the great work and cheers to many more years.

This means I don’t have so much time for photography these days but I continue to watch your videos partly to see how it’s done and partly because I just enjoy them!

What a great reminder. I started out on landscape photography a few years ago and your name and channel came up and you were a great inspiration to me. You have just inspired me again and I am now re-inspired to get out more again. Thank you.

I never comment on RUclips vids tbh but I watched that video 10 years ago (which I can’t actually believe) and you were a massive inspiration for me getting into/learning about photography and also helped me with my university dissertation answering some questions for it! I got a 1st class BA Hons degree and now am a photographer (full time) so congratulations on 10 years and thank you for your inspiration. Rick

Thank you Tom! You're like a sixth member of the family - even my wife asks how you're doing because she's so used to hearing your voice once a week. I can't remember when I found you but it's been at least 6 or 7 years. You're the first photography channel I started watching here and a lot have come and gone while you've remained. Congratulations on 10 years and THANK YOU!

I haven't been with you from the beginning, but I haven't missed a single video since I discovered you; including buying the F4 Road Trip series to support all of you guys, I loved it by the way.
As a brand new, right out of the box RUclipsr, this video was an inspiration, Thomas. I have been very close to throwing in the towel many times since starting my channel, but this... this gave me a fresh perspective. It's about the journey... it's about the journey.

Wow Tom, that was a quick ten years ! Saw your original video back in 2014 and been watching ever since. Enjoy your passion and insight, enjoyed seeing the different cameras and vehicles (still remember your close call with the campervan in the snow!) and learnt so much along the way. Now also enjoying the 617 club. Well done and here's to the next 10 years!

I've been following you for almost all ten of those years. I found your channel on episode 9 - I think you were out here in California shooting the Alabama Hills. It's primarily YOUR fault that I did a build on a mini van and have started traveling the world with my camera. Thank you for all of your inspiration! Keep the videos coming! They are much appreciated. Here's to the next ten years! :)

Thanks Thomas. Been enjoying your videos for a number of years now, but not ten. Quite brave of you to reflect this way, and although your production value is greatly improved now, for you to have continued in the same basic vane, while finding interesting things to say, and continuing to inspire us with great images is quite something. Take pride in your body of work and keep going.....please.

Thomas, thank you for all you have done for the landscape photography community. I've been with you since close to the beginning. I am also grateful to have met you in person some years back when you spoke at Mid-Atlantic Photo Visions conference at George Mason University. I am especially grateful to have had a one-on-one portfolio review with you. You have served as inspiration to me as I transition to being a full-time photographic artist. Thank you!

Bloody hell Tom! ..... I saw your first video and joined your channel on the 24 Nov 2014. Can't believe it was ten years ago but here we still are doing what we were doing then, taking images, having fun, enjoying the landscape. Many thanks to you for allowing us all the privilege of watching your progress, the ups and downs, amazing trips, fantastic images, awful images and everything in-between. Good luck for the next ten years.

I was living back home in Venezuela, it was 2017 and I was about to go on a trip to mount roraima, so I wanted to learn some tricks to get better photos of the landscapes. I discovered your channel and remember watching your first video specifically. Turns out I got the best advice I would ever get from a British dude whom I didn’t know: just go out there and enjoy. I have enjoyed it ever since and I always think of you when I’m out there shooting. Cheers on ten years man!!! You are truly an inspiration!!

A huge fan! But admittedly not here since the start. I came later. Great seeing some of the OGs commenting! You have been a huge inspiration, and it was your “My New Camera & How it Will Make me Better” video that kicked off my film photography journey, and a later purchase of my own vintage Hasselblad 500 CM. I am slowly trying my hand at making videos on my RUclips channel and seeing your first one from 10 years ago is so relatable! Making videos is challenging, and you make it look easy. Looking forward to seeing what your next 10 years brings. Cheers

Thank you Thom! Keep it up!

I'm pretty sure that my wife and I have been watching you from the start. We may not have seen this one on the day it came out but we certainly had seen it, possibly a couple of times before today. There were very few landscape photography channels back then but oh my, how things have changed. Hope to see many more videos from you, especially ones like this where you are closer to home and working with what nature has given you. To me, it's more relatable than the travel ones.
