I was born in Houston, moved to Austin for college, and now live in Dallas. Houston has by FAR the best food scene of the three, partly because of the fact that it’s a big port city. It has probably the best Vietnamese in the country and also has unbelievable Chinese, Japanese, Indian, middle eastern, Greek, Cajun, and (obviously) Mexican. If you want BBQ, Austin is where you go. Austin has a bunch of other really good restaurants, but it’s just not big enough compared to the other two cities to compare overall. Dallas has an amazing Thai scene-no idea why. It doesn’t have much that stands out to me in general other than that, but I’d say it has better food than Austin overall (besides BBQ) just because of the difference in size and diversity.
I lived off Bellaire 32 years ago! The Vietnamese food back then was a beautiful thing! The Chinese food was a beautiful thing back then as well! I'm in Northern Michigan now, but get back to Houston as often as I can! 💜💜💜🤩
I went to the salt lick a few weeks ago for graduation and vacation and it was amazing! The slaw was the best I ever had and I went about 3 rounds before I called it quits! Then afterwards we went to the outside picnic area to enjoy some live music and kick a ball around! Great time there.
You can't even imagine what kind of long term damage such excessive quantity high fatty meat diet does to your body. No amount of fasting and exercise can reverse that.
Next time you're in Houston, you have to try "Pho Ve Dem" (open only at night) also on Bellaire. You can smell the broth/soup in the parking lot. "Pho Binh" is another good pho place 2nd to Ve Dem. "Bún Bò Huế Đức Chương Midnite" is a very good place that is not pho related.
