How conversion happens? The colonial masters makes the subjects poor and put loads of taxes, then introduces the abrahamic religion which will give some relief if accepted. Brahmins would not have gone to Nagaland to preach Brahmanvadi and risk their lives in the hands of the Nagas tribes. But Christians missionaries took all the risk of their lives to preach the gospel while educating the tribals. They had a challenge of contextualization of their mission with the local culture. For an American missionary to be a 100% Naga and understand everything is not possible. The same is the case for a Naga to go to American and understand everything American. So, the missionaries have tried to contextualize but there has been conflicts due to cultural differences and lack of understanding of one another's culture. What is right for an American may be totally wrong for a Naga and vice versa. Nagas accept the western culture more easily than they would accept the concept of Hindutva and Brahmanvadi culture which is totally allien to them. But despite all that, their contribution to the tribal communities by the missionaries, not only Nagas but all of Northeast and other parts of India, is commendable. If missionaries had not taken interest, the process of education and development among the tribals would have been delayed. Until the arrival of the missionaries to educate the mass, education was confined to the children and youth of the Brahmins and uppercastes but that wall was broken by the reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy with their cooperation of the missionaries who went to the remotest parts of India and educated the poorest. Westernizing the culture of the Nagas is something that cannot be stopped in an age of globalization. HIndus, Muslims and other Indians having education in the west have all been influenced by the Western culture,. They want to speak English. They want to eat KFC and Mc Donald's, drink coke, adapt their lifestyle. This is upto the local people to take it or leave it. Traditional people will resist the change but the younger generation will embrace change.
