  • Walk through our exhibition 'Golden Boy Gustav Klimt. Inspired by Van Gogh, Rodin, Matisse.
    Explore how Klimt developed his unique style and how the Austrian artist was inspired by the work of Van Gogh, Toorop, Rodin, Whistler, Toulouse-Lautrec, Monet, Matisse and many other artists.
    Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) is one of the most fascinating artists of western art history. He is world-famous for his golden and decorative paintings and his portraits of strong women. But who was this ‘golden boy’, and what is the story behind his talent? You perhaps know Klimt’s work, but have you actually seen it?
    ==========================================================
    Uit nieuw onderzoek blijkt welke kunstenaars Klimt hebben beïnvloed, en welke hij bewonderde. Hij was medeoprichter van de kunstenaarsvereniging Wiener Secession. Daar werd in 1898 voor het eerst West-Europese moderne kunst getoond. Vanaf dat moment betekende elke tentoonstelling die de vereniging organiseerde een nieuwe golf van inspiratie en creativiteit voor Klimt.
    Golden Boy Gustav Klimt. Inspired by Van Gogh, Rodin, Matise... laat zien hoe Klimt zijn unieke stijl ontwikkelde en rijkelijk putte uit het werk van Van Gogh, Toorop, Rodin, Whistler, Toulouse-Lautrec, Monet, Matisse en vele andere kunstenaars.

    The recreation of the famous inscription above the entrance to Vienna's Secession building 4:50 is inspired and brilliantly done. This exhibition is exceptionally well staged. This video, of course, is wonderfully done. When seen on a large television screen, it is absolutely amazing and thrilling.
    Thank you, Van Gogh Museum. Best wishes from northern Vermont. ❤️

    I´m so sorry tha you missed Paul GAUGUIN from the source of Klimt´s inspiration. Without Gauguin's symbolic synthetism, the Fauvism would not have been created at all... Floral motifs, straight lines, mosaic structuring of cloisonism were transformed into Art Nouveau. Gauguin was the one who kicked down the door! He gave impulses to the courage to create NEW - literally "ART NOUVEAU"
