P51D30 video! Throwback to a simpler time back when I had 100 subs.
Against Japan, fitting considering the amount of pilots flocking to Japan nowadays.
Since the P51D30 a year ago, I've barely flown it despite it being one of my most flown aircraft. It's due to the trash rudder, which will be shown in all its glory in this match. Germans now have much better control at high speed than the D30.
With the amount of people playing Axis, looks like I'll be mostly playing Allies and so my videos will be mostly Allies in the next few videos.

IRL pilots hardly ever use rudder at high speeds but we are so reliant on it in RB due to instructor. Im Sim mode the P-51 flies really well at high speeds since you hardly ever use rudder.
Yeah, but then the issue is that not every plane is like this.
Is the Instructor enforced/always present in RB ? Because I remember deactivating it somewhere in the option one or two year ago.

@@CRL_One The near ground instructor would always try to kill me when I was landing, it would always pull up, bleed speed fast, and send me bouncing down the runway. So glad I found out I could turn it off lol
Rudder is still necessary for controlled turns - unless you are in an exact 90 degree turn you are going to pitch up or down slightly, however yes, at higher speeds generally most of the turning is done by ailerons and elevators, not so much the rudder.
Also, American and German aircraft in particular have some fairly... sensitive control surfaces... which in real life, and in most sims, could be used to put the aircrafts into controlled stalls to get behind opponents. Obviously when attempting this, or recovering from an accidental stall, needs use of the rudder as well.
I'm honestly a little disappointed that the P-51 in War Thunder doesn't go into a flat spin when you attempt a high-G turn for more than about 5 seconds.

@@luguicalaca Without a doubt. Probably next or the update after, when they bring in the mig-21, f-104, f-4 (possibly), and Spectat Jaguar or Lightning. They'll probably also introduce Anti-radiation missiles and radar semi active missiles.

When i set prop pith to 100 on my 109 i either get a dead engine or a n ircraft that slows down even when just going straight. I’m sure I’m using it either wrong or on a wrong aircraft, any tips?
Haha for sure, on German aircraft you need to leave prop pitch automatic. There is a way to use the German prop pitch as an airbrake, but you need to be careful.

Hello Adam, I was wondering how the P51 D30 holds up nowadays. Ive heard from other people that it isnt as good as it used to be, but i dont know who to trust tbh because i havent seen a relatively recent video on the D30.
I have been playing the F4u 4 and I've been liking it so far, but i want something a bit more agile and was wondering if the D30 is the correct choice for what i desire. Ive played the Premium D10 and i like the way it flies, is the D30 the same in strategy or is it a bit different?
Yeah got nerfed 2 years ago, mainly the rudder locks up massively.
Yeah I prefer F4U4 over the D30 currently. Better roll and turn, but limited WEP and a bit worse climb at low altitude. Same strategy as D30 though.
Whata the best climbing speed for the d30 and is the manual engine control stuff in the description for climbing?
Like 280 IAS, the MEC in the description is a good starting point for the aircraft in the video. Usually MEC for climbing and going fast is the same, so yes.

You can turn with most Germans especially if you use flaps. Against the other nations, it's a death sentence to turn.

Any chance on a video with 190Ds/TA152H1 on how to fight the Corsairs and particularly the Bearcats? Having quite a lot of problems with those. Especially the latter ones.
190Ds and Ta152H are very different. Ta152H will actually outturn Corsairs and Bearcats with flaps, while 190Ds can't do that. In 190Ds you require the energy advantage.
True dat. With the TaH its not that bad, but with the 190s I see no land. 190s just dont climb as well, so I rarely have the energy and it feels like reversing is not the viable option. But maybe its just me.

BTD is on my list! I play tanks from time to time, I wouldn't play tanks alone though and I have nothing to teach in tanks.

G14 is the worst 5.3 BR 109, so I would go with G10 over G14. I have a 9 kill G10 video on RUclips, but it's old.

It is still a good idea for sure. Even 3km nowadays since the engine nerf. It'll accelerate significantly slower at 3km compared to 1km.

Maneuvering Energy Retention. Essentially it's a measure of how much energy (speed) an aircraft loses when maneuvering. It's normal, you have to be patient and let the enemy come to you. Don't dive unless you're certain you'll catch the enemy jet.

Adam, try out the i-185 (m-82) sometime! It's a really interesting plane. It has a super high AoA that makes its low speed MER very bad, but its high speed energy retention (in turns and straight lines) is somehow really good despite the AoA. It's got P-47N level roll (just shy of the 190's) and okay-to-bad turn (better than a 190 though, and even decent with flaps). If you have your fw 190 angles mastered, you can just use those same techniques with this plane to get on your opponent's six. The bad low-speed MER also helps with staying on their six. I've managed to tail a Yak-3 in a CB for over a minute and a half before another enemy interrupted. Difficult but doable.
I've noticed that this plane loves to spiral dive because its high speed MER is so good. I'm not sure about this but I think it could even come out of a spiral dive with more speed than a P-51D-5 or a P-63.
The AoA makes defensive flying much more difficult than a 190A imo though, because you can move your nose a lot without actually changing direction. It's weird (But the same wonky AoA gives you excellent snap-to-target for offensive situations). And also it has bad (but manageable) climb rate stock but good-nice climb rate spaded, which allows it to energy fight with 109's and the like. It's very, very weird when you're at excessive AoA's and you can't turn but you can still hold your own in a stall fight with a 109. Definitely one of the weirdest planes I've ever played, but very fun.
P.S. You have to be extra careful when diving on low flyers. You compress very little, especially for a Russian plane, so there's no problem getting your nose up, but due to the AoA you can still crash even when your nose is well above the horizon.
Yeah I quite like it myself, and I also find it weird. Climb rate stock is still good though.

The speed difference is highest at low altitude.
I find it so difficult to use P51's series. the roll rate bad and its so hard to turn. its not a fun plane
Roll rate isn't bad, it's the rudder that is trash except on the P51H. Indeed P51Ds aren't fun since the nerf imo.

I thought that i was crazy when i couldn't use the P-51 as good as i use to. I guess the rudder was nerfed like a year or 2 ago but i assumed it was always like that
A bit more than a year ago. I flew it twice shortly after it was nerfed and shelved it. I got good results, but it wasn't fun.
It has bad rudder since 1.73 or 1.77 if I am not wrong

@@AdamTheEnginerd Gaijin tried to make the P-51's rudder "historical" . It was actually worse few patches ago. However the real problem is while P-51 has to be "historical", some of its opponent enjoy the advantage of having incorrect FM.

Nah P51H's rudder is much better.
@@AdamTheEnginerd thank god for that. Ive been playin the p51 d20 a lot(almost golded the crew for free) the plane has been difficult to play since the last few patches due to the rudder. It would have been a dissappointment if the h5 had the same problem since i heard it was a very strong plane at 6.3.
I've been having a very tough time flying the P-51D-30 recently, despite it also being my most-flown plane and knowing I used to fly great in it a couple of years ago. What frustrates me is I don't know where this degradation in my performance is coming from, asides from the obvious rudder nerf.
The state of RB has, personally, gotten so bad that I tried to find solace in Simulator Battles, to only see that it too is a shithole in the sense of EC just being a bomber swatting competition with the German's Ju 288s and Me 264s carrying the match.
It is a bit slower and a bit worse at climbing since a 1.5 years ago. It's like my 3rd most flown plane so I know the feeling.

I have a love hate relationship with this plane. It's good as long as you are above everyone, I have been near to an ace in multiple times that I had to J out because lack of time. I feel like this thing sits better between 4k and 2k where the roll becomes decent at low speed. But boi the rudder, I once engaged a g2 tropical that removed my rudder in the merge and I actually felt no difference for the 5 minutes of dogfight, realized just after shooting it down

Sometimes I can take an entire match in 25 minutes, some others I get killed in the first 10 minutes and think I can take another match but when it's time to carry it goes longer and I end up having to return to class before the second match ends

It's debatable. If P51H had infinite WEP it would be the P51H for sure.

I feel like the P-51Ds are more trouble than they’re worth. They are anywhere between 3 and 4 times the repair cost of the P-57Ds and I believe they’re also pricier than the P-47N as well. They only really shine over those planes in a squadron and they just feel anemic in my opinion. Hope they get fixed sometime soon.
Why is the guy whining in the chat that he is bad? Its sad that he maybe didnt learn anything from your videos. But dont worry thanks to you and greenfury and jengar i learned a lot. I became from a bad player to a better player. I win more 1vs1, ok the aim is below average but i pratice on it, the rest is all thx to you. I fly without squad so i sometimes have a hard time especially allied teams, even when i kill 2 we lose anyway.
Sometimes people go on rants about how bad they are haha, it happens!

300m is too low, I used to use 300m though. I'm at 500m now to improve my headon performance.

Roll is significantly worse, it's slightly slower at sea level, and there's more compression at speed.
At 3:51 look at the water it looks like your about to hit the water because of the contrails,very trippyyy

Ki84 is a fast Japanese aircraft that still outturns the D30.
If ur playing 5.0 and start climbing and spot one of these guys you'd think they have an airspawn because they are like 2km above you and they have 4 20mm's that have better damage, ammo capacity and much superior accuracy than Hispanos. They also turn better than any American plane and are faster than most of its opponents.
