He's beginning to seem like that one uncle who keeps his flask hiding in the tool box of his truck which he visits 3 times per hour.
      This video makes me wish that I had written down the numbers that Gale Banks came up with when they did a Dyno session with their 2024 Duramax to determine the power that's making it to the ground. Time for me to go see if I left my wallet in my Toolbox.

    The exhaust brake is 100% meant to work with cruise. If you set the cruise to 50mph it knows if you're going up or down and how much braking you need. It's magic. Otherwise the truck just has to guess. Set for 50, it'll keep it at 50.

    • @masonryman8183
      @masonryman8183 Год назад

      Isn't that what cruise control does? Lol. A true exhaust brake should be separate and work on its own. Every vehicle with cruise control will maintain whatever speed you set it to and adaptive will regulate speed with traffic and curves. Chevy dropped the ball on its exhaust brake.

      I can say that on my 2022 3500hd, when I set the cruise, it will kick in a lot of exhaust braking to hold you back to the set speed. Without using CC, it will kick in exhaust braking but will slow you down to some unspecified speed. It doesn’t know when to stop exhaust braking if you don’t use cc.

      On the 1500s it engages the brake pads on the cruise control..... Sooo I wouldn't use cruise on mountains. NO WHERE in the manual does it explain the cruise control can actually activate the foot brakes, so you find out they have overheated at the worst possible time.

    The Chevy/GMC exhaust brake system works off of cruise control. If you set the cruise control and enable exhaust brake, it will keep you at your cruise control speed. Without cruise control, enabling exhaust brake will downshift earlier that it would otherwise, but it won't keep you at a particular speed.
    As an example, there's a steep hill near me that I can gain significant speed coasting down. I will gain speed down it even if I have exhaust brake turned on. But if I turn on cruise control (even if I'm already doing 10+ over), it will slow me to the cruise control speed and keep me there.

    • @KC-zr1rd
      @KC-zr1rd Месяц назад

      But then it isn't the engine brake slowing you down. It's the cruise system slowing you down technically.

    • @DSArmageddon666
      @DSArmageddon666 Месяц назад

      @@KC-zr1rd It's still the exhaust brake. If you have cruise control on, but exhaust break off, the system will allow you to go faster than the cruse control setting on a steep downhill.
      And also, very importantly, if both are on it slows you down via exhaust brake rather than wheel brakes.

    Having a Masters in Mechanical Engineering - it is about getting the power to the ground. The payload capacity is more important than the number or type of springs. What is the towing capacity? Just looking at HP and Torque numbers really is only a starting point. What are the shape of the curves? Where do they come on and where do they go flat? What are the gear ratios in the transmission? What is the overall gear ratio? What is the rear end gear ratio? Dodge and Ford may be going to higher number simply for bragging rights. If it will pull what you need, accelerate how you want, and the other stuff don't worry about it too much. Too bad a larger fuel tank is not a factory option. Why would you use a Ram 2500 vs F350 and 3500? Have to keep it as close to each other as possible. Why 16800 and not 19100 - lawyers.
    I was happy to see Chevy did not put the trailer brake controller on the center console. At least I did not see it there. I am in the market for a new truck and it will probably be Chevy High Country. The new Ford front end is a major step backwards from the 2022 and the interior brown on the Denali Ultimate is also not to my taste - looks like a Ford King Ranch; perhaps the AT4 but the trailer controller is still in a bad location.

    Trucks now are crazy. I had a 1983 f250 with a 6.9L diesel and it made 160hp and 310tq. I remember hearing a 1994.5 powerstroke start for the first time and wondered if it was going to blow a rod through the block it was so loud.
    My uncle had a 1989 d350 with a Cummins and a case tractors with the same motor. There was no ordering food in a drivethu with the motor running back then.

    I know the first time I towed with our 2008 Dodge 2500 I was really impressed with how well the exhaust brake did at keeping our speed down coming through the Appalachian's. We were towing a triple axle with a TD-6 on it so running circa 14-16k and I didn't have to worry about braking it held the load at 55mph or below no problem.

    I remember the first time you tested a gm with the exhaust brake like this. You deducted points because it slowed the truck too much. I commented then, all you have to do is feather the throttle and it'll stay the exact speed you want or as others have said,, set the cruise control. I have a 2017 sierra all terrain x 2500, I just modulate the throttle and im always in control.

      I honestly doubt if they'll ever get better. I love my 2020 Duramax, but at 160,000 miles (I run hotshot) I've replaced the DPF once, within 40,000, and then just had to replace the entire DEF tank because the heater went out ($1400). I run Blue DEF and Blue DEF Platinum instead of pump DEF whenever I can. I also use the 64 oz bottle of Lucas Deep clean with DPF cleaner at least once a month

      @Chris Don’t run the Platinum Blue DEF. It’s no bueno. Almost everyone I know that tried it, it throws warnings / codes on GM emission systems. I tried 5 gallons of it, and got codes for the first time ever. Searched the inter webs, and it’s use has caused GM owners widespread issues. Just use the regular blue stuff, or any DEF…. DEF IS DEF!!!

At what point do vehicles stop moving at a good clip, and the rebates come back or pricing structure changes…. Remember, they make ALL their $$ on these trucks and large SUVs, their EVs and sedans and small compacts are losers…

    Always like to see Mr Truck on here.
    I’m thinking something is probably up with the app giving you a 16000 something gooseneck rating because that’s what a gas truck is rated for. So there’s probably something going on there. 19,100 is your rating like the door sticker says.
    Also, GM HD trucks have 36 gallon fuel tanks, as they always have had since atleast the 2011 model. The only exception is 2020+ diesel, double cab, standard bed trucks.

    You guys need to talk to someone else at gm. The tow rating on the sticker is correct. Also, please use the cruise on the downhill with tow mode on and the exhaust brake enabled like it's designed to be used. I'd love to see you use a 3500 SRW, as these have a heavier chassis and suspension with the bigger rear axle, and those are becoming more mainstream for people pulling more than 15k.

    Most important it is awesome to see Mr. Truck on the max tow Ike. Nothing against anyone else, Mr. Truck has more experience and respect than the rest, sorry. If the stickers are not accurate that is criminal, don't know who would think it would be ok to put a sticker in the vehicle showing the vehicle numbers and expect you to then need to cross reference to the internet. That needs to be done correctly, either do not put the sticker in or do it accurately. I cannot believe anyone would sign off on that idea. The company has declined so much under Mary. Her salary in 2021 was $29.1 Million dollars. Thank you to all of the crew doing the Ike run.

    If you use the cruise control you will utilize the exhaust break more effectively. It will slow the truck down on down grades without any pedal. I've run hotshot with a 2020 duramax and a 2021 duramax and that is how I drive thru mountain ranges is by using cruise at 50mph and the exhaust brake on as always for towing. The only time I used the pedal was for turns which for 50 mph and a gooseneck behind me I always thought was too fast.

    On these HD truck towing tests, please show your scale ticket and the Vin plate on the trailer too so we can understand the details better. Also would be good to help people understand that even if your scale ticket is under 26,001 total, your registered combination was clearly over 26,000 in this case. Not an issue since you have a CDL, but for guys looking to avoid CDL territory, it would be helpful.

  • @77knez
    @77knez Год назад

    If you watch the part where they are looking at the stickers it says above all the information "Vehicle and trailer must not exceed ANY OF THESE VALUES". It also says to see the owner's manual for more information. This means that it probably just depends on the features that you have on the truck. I would bet there is a trim that will take the 19100 but they just made a general sticker that they could slap on all the trucks and say "Don't go over this". Instead of making a specific sticker for each truck based on its features.
