Dave & I have met up with some friends in a garage and they are big jazz enthusiasts (and much more skilled than we are). It's fun to at least try again, and rock, pop & blues seems so easy after jazz.
why do you have to compare... both are wonderful, in their way. Open your horizons. develop an eclectic taste then you wont have to limit yourself. The world is full of wonderful artists.
She has a beautiful finger technique (and beautiful hands too...) I do like her style very much !! That's a tight tempo for "The way you look tonight".
I think that when the tempo is slower, it swings better, as oppose to the up tempo style she plays it. A great player nevertheless, and yes, has improved over the years. Her singing is sultry, as is Ms. Krall's. Speaking of finger technique, Krall, even though she doesn't play a lot of piano (not to say that she can't), is very classy, she plays "Classic Jobim" fingering, something everybody can't seem to do. I love Eliane's "Blue In Green" by Miles Davis & "Through The Fire" by Chaka Khan.
Clearly playing in the moment! Ideas are flooding from heart to hands. She’s not sure what it is she’s playing next...like what idea, how to shape this sound? Bass driving and drummer is crisp. A good piece.

Dianna Krall has her audience. She's commercial and good at it but she is not in the same league as this lady whose phrasing and provocative piano style set her apart. Her voicings remind me of Bill Evans. Funnily enough, she married Evans' bassist. She's just too good.

Now she is a bonafide great singer and pianist in the Shirly Horn, Nina Simone, etc tradition. Not like over rated Dianna "make my skin" Krall. and a greater jazz pianist than the aforementioned and many others.

I am happy she isn't KJ, who fucks grandpiano on public! ( i mean his performance with his "St.John Abbey", after which i ceased thinking about KJ something else but a clown) i better be watching naked-feet lady ;))))
