@EugenekSung Depends of what you mean by "artists." Most of the people I listen to write, play and produce (or atleast contributes to it beyond what Derulo does) all their music themselves.
@gijoo76 exactly, well, for most pop music and r&b anyway, the artists on the track is simply like a another instrument; controlled and written by other composers who "control" the artists performance
When chart singers say they "wrote the song", I notice that means they just wrote some of the lyrics. The music is so much more important though! The composers and producers really should get 90% of the credit
You mean 50% Music(Beat) and 50% Lyrics(Words)? That's pretty industry standard a 50/50 Songwriting split between two Co-Writers. Beat Makers are technically Songwriters. J.R Rotem wears two hats as the Producer/Songwriter.
I can't believe no one knew this; The artists that take credit for songs (i.e. Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Adam Lambert, etc.) don't write their own songs. At all. The producer (with other staff) makes EVERYTHING (from the beat to the vocal melody). So these artists that people praise have little to do with the actual song-making; the producer just chooses which voice would "suit" the song.
think about it. It is the year 2012. How boring would this world be if music was the same as it was since soul, funk and blues era? If there was no new school then we wouldnt have anything to compare it with to say which of the two was the best. Its like not knowing what is right from wrong unless we made that mistake to find out for ourselves.
well thats a music b. it is about producers, style , right video clip and catchy tune, thats what people trying to get , some of them write songs in 100 procent ,some of them in 10 minutes , it is market and business some singers don't write anything but maybe sing great or look good and thats all matter ,sometimes , but how to get that deal?
@gijoo76 While there certainly are a lot of cases like what you describe, nobody should think it's the standard. I'm on the inside, part of a Grammy Award winning production team based on the east and west. I'm an assistant to the producers and (sometimes also) the mixers. For most of our clients, actually, we actually get them (the artist) totally involved in lyrical input and melodic 'vibe' if nothing else. Hey, not everyone's a great top-line writer! But, this way they also score points.
the producer literally makes everything. Celine Dion had that monster Titanic song but she made very little money off of it because she just sang. Usually the singer makes about 20% and the producer around 60%
Without hearing my material, your statement bears only malice. And my material isn't on here yet. But I'd like to point out, that producers who make POP are people who obviously envy other POP stars good fortune. Music gives a priceless opportunity for expression & diversity; an artist's playground! ;)b But if you're limited by greed, trend, popularity etc. you are no better than a machine & don't deserve the title of 'artist'. If you think I'm wrong, let me know how or why.
Like that, should we have doctors 'high fiveing'? or shall we do what we are paid to do professionally and then party after hours? So he's serious about his craft, so he's got a grand, let the guy be, it's his way. I bet you still listen to his stuff, right?
mainstream music sucks today,no one puts any kind of emotions and they do not write their own songs just like you said, but j.r. rotem is not that good of a producer i would say that kanye west is even better and he is nothing special anyway the producers are one that deserve credit and not this so called ''artists''
His programming skills are excellent...
He knows how to get product output moved...
@ Aram V. He is using Pro tools and recording the sound on the Roland keyboard directly on it as he plays.
"he wrote a majority of the song"
wow jason derulo, a real artist
Producers deserve ALOT more credit then they are given
great great great producer.Lot's to learn :) Thanks.
Adam Lambert actually produced a lot of his upcoming album "Trespassing" - so it can be done that the artist has a lot of say in the final product.
First Video with not even one dislike i've ever seen! :D
My boy Derulo looked like he had a whole jar of Soul Glow in his head lol!!!
I bet no one knew his voice would sound like that
look 1:16 she puts the mic near to his hands to record the voice ! what a genius
Nice !
@EugenekSung Depends of what you mean by "artists." Most of the people I listen to write, play and produce (or atleast contributes to it beyond what Derulo does) all their music themselves.
what program is he using
He is using ProTools
I worked with JR on Sharks Tale Movie sound track. JR gets it in on the production. @jahzillabeats
@MrSilentDoubleA i'M curious to see you write lyrics with just a beat for idea ...
@gijoo76 exactly, well, for most pop music and r&b anyway, the artists on the track is simply like a another instrument; controlled and written by other composers who "control" the artists performance

She was trying to record the sound from the keyboard (piano).... lmfao.

@MrSilentDoubleA unless you're pharell or kanye. they do both. but a lot of artists also help write but nowadays tats really rare..
Choose from ''What if'' from Jason Derulo or Coldplay? I know..

@gijoo76 duh? you didn't know that? haha they're just good for looks and their voice
@ilikeshoegazing the keyboard...
@gijoo76 katy perry writes as well..
@gijoo76 While there certainly are a lot of cases like what you describe, nobody should think it's the standard. what i would give to be signed right now
I wonder who made the song by Derulo - Closure because that songs needs closure lol
@gijoo76 They still got the voice, and without a good voice you can't make a good music baby :)
Producers never get the credit they deserve. But they get more of the money. (;
the producer literally makes everything. Celine Dion had that monster Titanic song but she made very little money off of it because she just sang. Usually the singer makes about 20% and the producer around 60%
@MrSilentDoubleA what did you expect :P
Those first chords are the piano progression from The Game-My Life. He is a great producer, not hating.
The Game - My Life, and about 34234234 other songs. Learn some more music theory.
Thysta Lol I heard Bruno mars forget what song
@YoungMalcomX1 Very few.... Maybe like 5%.
yeah your better.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha look at 1:15 she holds the microphone to the keyboard! The sound comes from the keys?!

@marinelovesuperman I dont write lyrics, but I never claimed I did.
I know several love-lyrics who are 10-1000 times better though :)
@gijoo76 you just noticed?? >.>
@gijoo76 HAHA fuckin true !!
Producers have the luck not to deal with paparazzi.
This dude said "timeless piano ballad type of genre" ahahahaha
+Rus Royce I laughed too. This is pure garbage. lmao
LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LAST!!!!
Chocolate........ THIS IS DOO-DOO BABY!!!
田馥甄
I thought she did that to record the piano. Not his voice
those chords are very similar to the ones of Lil' Wayne - My Life
Like that, should we have doctors 'high fiveing'? or shall we do what we are paid to do professionally and then party after hours? So he's serious about his craft, so he's got a grand, let the guy be, it's his way. I bet you still listen to his stuff, right?
@jattamreetbatth there wasnt even a first. lol
_Minchia, Zì, c'ho sto giro de DO che spacca er culo!_
_Vieni a vomitarci sopra una linea vocale generica, che famo i soldi veri!_
Music is spiritual. The music business is not.
PREEEEEACH THE GOSPEL !!
怎樣?
Yeah cause 99.5% they're in the studio making music
So the producer makes everything? LOL...
I think she might be doing it wrong.
Yeah basically the High School Graduation march music modified lol!
fine asian girl, damn girl

@jattamreetbatth big deal imma try and be last
well, the artists dont earn that of the income anyways
@marinelovesuperman Just looked them up, not really good..at all.
@anna2010dance He didn't even make the vocal lines...Derulo that is.
And his voice is not that good.
And you can make good music without a good voice.
FIRST
I dont give a shit really...
second
Shame it wasn't really a good song...
This is why music sucks nowadays
