    I'm really surprised people hated on Priest's BP run. I remember reading the issues as they came out (it was the only book I was reading in the 90s) and thought it was fantastic.

    Christopher Priest is one of the smartest guys in comics and without him, there is no Black Panther movie. All respect to Lee, Kirby, McGregor, Hudlin and Coates, but Priest made the Panther COOL again.

      Jeff, he absolutely DID. Totally agree. We wouldn't care about the character if Priest hadn't made him an absolute badass that can outwit Mephisto.

      And Texiera don’t forget about him. His lines or lack thereof combined with the highlights on the colouring really added to the mystical feel of the book. I think the two were made to collaborate

    With the mainstream popularity that Black Panther has with the movie and the academia appeal that BP has with the Coates run on him, it is sad that Priest's Marvel Knights run doesn't get talked about more.

    I happened upon Priest's run on BP by way of Avengers, during the Ultron Unlimited story arc (still one of the best Avengers stories of all time!) Related to THIS topic, what fired every neuron in my brain were 3 words: "Vibranium weave suit". I went "WHAAAAAAAT???" and could not believe what I was reading. It made PERFECT sense. If you're the KING of a country whose defense, economy and very existence depend on Vibranium. WHY WOULDN'T YOU BE USING IT IN YOUR GEAR?? WHAT HAD TAKEN SO LONG FOR THIS IDEA TO OCCUR TO WRITERS USING THE CHARACTER? Who had DONE this??? I IMMEDIATELY set out to discover where had all this come from. The answer, of course, was that Christopher Priest had totally reinvented T'Challa. And I started buying back issues like crazy. I cannot BELIEVE he got hate mail for this!! The man is humble, and gives due credit to Stan and Jack, and to Don McGregor, as well as the later work by Hudlin and Coates. But Jeff Winbush in the comments below, is dead right. WE WOULD NOT HAVE the movie or the later uses of the character at all, if Chris Priest hadn't come along and made him cool again, while simultaneously dropping in some of the key concepts used for T'Challa and Wakanda that have been in use ever since. Thank you, thank you, thank you Mr. Priest.

    This is one reason why I gave up reading current Mainstream comics (DC\Marvel): their tendency to reboot, scrap and reboot again so they can change the rules at their pleasure! The George Perez Wonder Woman was INVULNERABLE! She could take a punch from Superman and Capt. Marvel without so much as a bloody nose, punches which could cause more impact than any silly bullet! Her Amazon sisters were NOT invulnerable, hence the evolution of the "bullets and bracelets" challenge; but, Diana was given special gifts or powers directly from the Greek gods--she only used the bracelets to defend herself because it was part of her Amazonian culture! Similarly, THOR is also "bulletproof" but he uses his hammer to ward off bullets only because they annoy him!
    I don't know what's going on with WW comics today but hopefully, for today's fans, an editor will find a solution to this continuity glitch and explain how WW could be taken down by one simple bullet! Heck, the Golden Age Wonder Woman went through World War 2, does DC think there weren't bullets flying around then??

    • @TSR1776
      @TSR1776 4 года назад

      Honestly, I'm of the mind that making Diana more vulnerable is more interesting for her character, than when she was completely invulnerable to everything except bondage. Besides I'm pretty sure in the comics she's still bulletproof (I cant remember the last time I saw her actually deal with common bullets) and has been since Perez's run. As far as I know, she can only be killed by bullets in the WW movie which is in its own continuity.
      and besides, even if there is a continuity glitch that needs explaining, that pretty simple. How did WW survive World War 2 with bullets flying around even though she could be killed by a single one? The same way all the veterans of WW2 survived; skill, training and a little luck. Honestly its a lot more compelling to me that Diana would have been brave and skilled enough to fight in a world war with nothing but a sword, shield and her strength. If she can just shrug off bullets like its nothing, than what is she risking? What's brave about that?

    • @joncarroll2040
      @joncarroll2040 6 месяцев назад

      You do realize George Perez' WW was itself a reboot right?

      With the exception of one story in the Black Panther Annual (alongside a McGregor story and a Hudlin story), Priest's seemingly done; in a Newsarama interview from 2015 Priest said that "I believe Marvel has graciously allowed me an incredible opportunity to say virtually everything I wanted to say about Panther. I’d hate to return to the character and the new stuff not hold up, and I’d hate to end up competing with myself."
