Fun fact: A burp is a real audio term. In car audio bass competitions, they "burp" the subs for only a few seconds, which allows for using more wattage without overloading the system.
Props to Rachel Potter who at the time of shooting this video was very pregnant. Thank goodness she was able to sit down for this whole thing. We get to really see the masks that Layne hid in the tree branches in, In The Hall Of The Mountain King. Makes me so happy when they do character voices. Layne almost fell off his stool.
Fellow ADHDer here. I am prone to these overloads a LOT. Something else that helps me is to put pressure on/around my head. Whether it's just me squeezing the sides of my head, or having my husband do it - the use of weight/pressure helps immensely. Also - so very cool that you left that in the video. You're right, though. We do mask it like crazy. In your shoes, I probably would have edited that out. I respect that you chose to leave it in (and the reason why). And FWIW, you're not alone. I had a sensory overload from this piece, too! I love it, but I have to listen to it with only one earbud in, because the stereo effects are so prevalent that I absolutely **will** overload on it otherwise. LOL This is such a fun piece. They did so well with it!
I feel kinda mean saying this, but the more broken you get, the more entertaining your reaction is! 🤣Please, keep on just being wonderful you, and make sure to take care of yourself in between times - we don't want you to get permanently borked LOL
Voiceplay are so advanced compared to other acapella groups. Their musical arranging is so far beyond the other groups in the genre. I don't mean that to be dismissive of other big acapella groups. They are all doing a good job, are excellent singers and I am happy they are gaining success. But from the point of view of pushing the genre forward and really pushing the envelope as regards arrangement, vocal and visual skills, voiceplay are unmatched imo.
I'm also a follower of the "big 3" a capella groups. I favor Home Free simply because it's more my preference. But I think it's so awesome that all 3 groups are so different that even when they cover the same songs, they aren't in competition with each other. And we get totally different experiences from each one. ❤
They live in Orlando Florida. All have performed shows at Universal Studios, Disney World or both for many years. Also. They have no record label or anything telling them what to do and how to do it. Geoff and Layne do all the concepts, arranging, producing, directions, editing. Themselves. Only outside is makeup, cameras and mixing. Even the studio they fi!m in is owned by Layne and former member Tony Wakim. Pattycake Productions. Where Layne and Tony do their own video creations. As well as filming other artists.
I have never commented on a video before, and I've been on the platform since it was new. I've seen (and thoroughly enjoyed) a small number of your videos before, but just now subscribed because of your decision to share, normalize, and try to help others with similar experiences. I am not among those who experience those kinds of sensations, but I support all efforts of demystifying and normalizing human experiences that are considered unusual just because they aren't well understood by those who don't experience them.
One of my favorites from VP! And probably one of my favorite reactions ever, just for the "Neurodivergent education / break" part. I'd never heard of this grounding technique, so thank you very much for keeping it in. As a fellow ND, thank you!
Love the stimming/neurodivergent education moment. As someone with ADHD and Autism as well. many of their videos make me overloaded that I replay the song over and over again cause sensory overload makes me miss things.
17:40, YOUR Voice is HIGH and it sounds soooo good!! I’m a baritone (that can do subharmonics) so high voices impress me and for some reason just THAT part made me go “WOW”. You are amazing Mortius, in so many ways. Thank you ❤️
I love watching people react to this cover because it's 1.) Such a good song and one of Voiceplay's best pieces of work in my opinion, 2.) Everyone in the cover gets their perfect shining points to show off what they can do awesomely, and 3.) Voiceplay just tried so many new things in this cover that absolutely worked. Overall awesome and your reaction of it was just really fun to watch! Always love your vids, keep posting awesome content :)
This man's reactions make me (mostly) genuinely and immensely happy. If I'm having a bad night I know I can just see one of his reactions and everything will be better. I'm so glad I found him. For clarification, I have anxiety and it hits me harder at night. Thank you Mortius!
10:55 => It's actually just subharmonics going from a higher note down to a F#1. He said that in one of his videos. You can find subharmonics combined with overtones in VPs Running up that Hill, at least i think it's subs combined with overtones
Thanks for leaving the stimmy part in! I'm an Autistic VP fan and I get easily overstimulated by too much audio input, or certain frequencies, so it was very relatable.
If you watch Geoff's video "Singing REALLY LOW: Questions Answered" at about 3:50 he explains (and demonstrates) that overtone-sounding part in this song.
Loved how much you got out of this and THANK YOU for keeping in the moment where you realized you needed a break and talked through your coping process. This visibility is SO important and it's great to see an example of how to bring yourself back from it.
Fellow nd person here. Thank you so much for leaving your overload moment in and talking about it! This really means a lot, there seems to be so little representation that actually comes from our community. Also amazing reaction and analysis! I always sit here smiling while listening to you, your excitement is contagious! :D
The cool thing about this highly stimulating cover is that you can also use it to your advantage. The other day when I was understimulated I literally listened to this for an hour or two on repeat.
Sensory overload is a regular problem for me, especially outside of my daily routine - I totally feel you! There was a lot going on in this cover - thank you as always for everything you do 😊
I haven't actually been diagnosed with any ADHD or Autism, I do however feel extremely overwhelmed in certain situations. It's a tough one to explain, I'm going to try that exercise. I think it may actually help me... definitely worth a shot either way. Thank you for that, great video as always Mortius. Keep them coming!
On point reaction, VoicePlay completely breaking you sounds about right! Also Geoff was using Overtones over his notes, which can be achieved with moving your tongue around inside your mouth in certain positions and it manipulates the actual note to sound different than the original note. And of course then he lands a totally busted subharmonic F#1. This is by far the most entertaining video they have in their collections!
He discusses this (as well as reproducing it) in one of his videos; it's not overtones. It's just a very high subharmonic, with a little distortion thrown in.
Thanks for bringing attention to the sensory overload neurodiverse people experience. My family knows by now, but I think save for my husband, nobody really understands what it's about when I press my hands onto my ears and close my eyes to shut out the world. I often get the feeling that the world around me thinks I'm overplaying it / overreacting or simply making it up.
thank you for bringing awareness! I'm excellent at covering/masking but at the end of the day the toll it takes can be overwhelming. I'm learning that it's OK to not mask all the time and to ground myself when I need to. Love this song/cover and love YOU!
I played this as I unboxed my winnings from the VoicePlay Halloween Charity Auction. (Did you see that they raised $4400 for hurricane relief?). It was the perfect backdrop! Thank you so much!
Those are the absolute best laugh fests! I read somewhere (don't know if it's true) that during one of the skits (maybe the dentist) that Harvey laughed so hard he wet himself! I don't care how many times I see the dentist skit or the elephant skit, as soon as I see it pop up for a reaction channel, I go to the bathroom before playing it. I still howl with laughter and wait in gleeful anticipation for the reaction from the reactors! 🤣
Loved your reaction to this Mortius. Ive watched/listened to rheir Kidnap the Sandy Claws provably more than i should. Yet you still pick out bits i haven't noticed before. Thank you. Also to add your grounding exercise is helpful for anxiety and panic attacks. More needs to be done to normalise overstimulation and stimming. Thanks for reassuring us you were ok as well x
You are just the cutest thing. I mean that sincerely. I truly appreciate your genuine love of music and your complete giving of yourself to those watching. I applaud you and can’t wait for the next one! I will join your Patreon as soon as I am able and you will join only Voiceplay.
There qre very few Voiceplay covers that are not on my list of favorites, this was one of them. Your reaction and analysis put it on my love it list. Thanx, Mortius!!
What a fun reaction to a great performance. And thank you for sharing what you need to do to keep things together. We need more acceptance of the neurodivergent and those with other conditions. Part of understanding these conditions is understanding what it takes to live with them. You helped advance that understanding today.
A lot of 2020 is lost to memory. But this was one of the bst things to happen in it. Your enthusiasm was like seeing it for the first time again. So good!
Yes!!!! I haven been waiting ever since you announced it! So glad that you love spooky season as much as I do, Mortius! Hope you see this, and I hope you have an amazing rest of your spooky season! Also, the "What, Geoff" had me on the floor laughing! And it's so great to see you calling out the autism and ADHD stuff, I have so many friends that have adhd and I feel so bad for them!
If you're looking for more spooky theme covers by Voiceplay, they've also done Superstitious! I also get sensory overload and found for me that having something at the right level of soft to "pet" helps calm me down.
I've just watched the intro and I can't wait to see the rest of the video. Seeing you break like we all do makes the analysis more believable. Keep up the good work. X
Fyi, Geoff talks about that one part (around 10:30 in this video) in his Singing REALLY LOW: Questions Answered video (around 3:50 there). He says it's actually a subharmonic, just really high. And he demonstrates. It's pretty cool. Thanks for another great reaction!
Firstly, thank you for, once again, bringing my attention to several fun details I totally missed listening to this on my own. Apparently, I fixate on the main vocals even when trying not to. XD (Also your imitating them makes me wanna check out your own singing stuff because, dang...) Also, mad respect for leaving the break in. That was cool of you. (I have a bit different experience, but still. People look at me weird when I have to plug my ears on the street when an ambulance goes by... but it's too loud and it actually hurts! D: So, yea. Super cool of you to show people sometimes things like this just happen. :D)
That low sliding note aka "burp" Geoff gives me call back to his entrance in their Halo cover with Scott. Which I never took notice off because that means he did that specific one wayy before already? Edit: E1 in Halo, but in this Sand Claws one Eb1-F1. Yeah, that is relatively standard for Geoff lol.
Pentatonix may have he best Christmas songs, but no one beats Voiceplay for Halloween 🎃. I love the makeup and the choice of who plays which character. They nailed this one. I got such a kick out of your reaction on this one, but remember to take care of yourself too.
Loved it, Loved It, LOVED IT!! Always enjoy your reactions and analysis. Also appreciate that you don't try to act/be perfect as none (well, most) of us aren't. Will see if my sister is aware of your grounding technique for my nephew who is a "high functioning autistic". Again, loved every minute of your reaction and analysis. Looking forward to the next one! Thank you.
When I first started watching you, you were such a well held together man .sane sensible intelligent informative funny.but now your broken someone has melted your brain .oh dear go lie down .
Mortius you are a real angel to recognise and include everyone from all walks of life. i'm a wheelchair user who has breathing and vocal cord damage due to acid reflux. I Love voiceplay, musicals and singing.
This was such a cool reaction! I love this song by them and it was cool see get it actually broken down. Also as a fellow neurospicy bean it was really nice to hear your tips for overstimulation and STILL see you enjoy it. I feel things like that aren't talked about much anywhere, so thank you!
As a father to a very intense ADHD nurospicy child, I seriously appreciate the grounding exercise tip and plan on trying this with my child. Awesome reaction too. It's hard to find people who genuinely love this music as much as I do!
Loved the video as always!!! And if this is how you react to this song......................you will need to superglue yourself to your chair when you watch Voiceplay's hide and seek
Mortius, not only do I love your musicality and attention to detail, but I adore you for the normalization of neurodivergent reactions and coping mechanisms 💜 As a depressed omnisexual woman with a trans daughter who has Autism and anxiety, we're hitting lots of squares on diversity bingo, but representation and normalization is so lovely and encouraging to see. Plus you share my obsession with a capella in general, Voiceplay specifically here, and definitely Ceasar whenever he can be mentioned, lol. How could I do any less than send all my hugs 🤗🥰🎶
Thank you for being open about the over stimulation, stimming and grounding exercise. As someone who has neurodivergence, it was good to see instances like this not only normalized but dealt with matter of factly. I personally use a grounding exercise where I focus on my breathing
Recorded this one earlier today and came to watch yours...great minds think alike, we had very similar comments on the character voice mix with their normal voices! Edit: wrote this before the video was finished, wanted to add a thank you for the grounding exercise, I'm sure it'll come in handy!
I'll be honest, I can't hear any cover of this song without comparing it to the KoRn version. Pretty sure I heard that version before I had ever actually watched the movie, and it will probably always be my favorite.
What Geoff did there was a variant of sub-harmonic Throat-Singing. Look up a guy called Alex Glenfield, he has a video about 7 different types of throat singing. What amazes me is how effortlessly Geoff slid back into the low range.
THANK YOU for keeping the neurodivergent bit in there. That's REALLY important for people like me to see, just in general. It's also a big deal to show that we don't always know that it's happening when it's happening, and that we have to learn extra about ourselves to be able to catch things like that and work to resolve them.
A fantastic counselor in third grade (in the early 60's, when divergent wasn't even a term) told me to count. One breathe, two smells, three sounds, one feeling, two colors, etc.). I cracked up when the Count joined Sesame Street. Mortius, you're wonderful to watch.
Broken Mortius is entertaining Mortius but sorry it broke you just a little too much. I really needed this today. Thank you for being you and keeping the sensory overload part in. Finally getting caught up on your reaction/analyses after a three month break from all reactions.
13:39 my sister experiences sensory overload alot so I'm actually pretty used to people saying oh no I am going through a little bit of a sensory overload as a joke because that's my sister or just going completely silent so I never really questioned it pretty much everybody in my family has mental or physical health issues and everybody is pretty much well aware of it😅😅😅 I am technically the healthiest out of the whole family one because I dealt with my mental health issues two because I am fully aware of what my problems are so I'm able to take care of them way better than everybody else and three my physical health issues I just have to stay in basically an icebox so I don't get heat stroke BTW heat stroke is like dying apparently so kid me has already dealt with death so many times that I am honestly concerned😅😅😅 like what God is letting me get away with this😂😂😂
Another one where Morty's brains are scattered all over the house because of the crazy VP video. I thought it was cool 😎 that you were like holy cow what am I hearing. I like your response to the craziness that is VP. Go lie down for a bit and then you can go about your day.
Hi I am Nurodivergent but the opersit direction I have no visual memory or Aphantasia. 7 Seconds then it's gone forever, I remember nothing visually. Verbilly also is effected remembering so vbasicly if I don't store stuff in a very set way I don't keep many memories. 10-15 from childhood, a few more of family. The one strange thing my medical team worked out is I can't become depressed every interesting but strange gift almost to compensate loosing so much. I am part of program helping to understand this and how it might help others who suffer this way recover as they unlock how it happened. Anyhow just thought you might find this interesting! Words are my world, I remember every story I have ever read. Every films script etc it's silly how much most people don't really store! I love your exercise to help you, well done for not hiding this and making it perfectly normal. I have been a long-time subscriber and just wanted to thank you for your fun and educational videos. Have a fantastic day Sir!
I know this is way late, but genuinely thank you for leaving in the sensory overload part. I'm autistic and also have ADHD, and it truly makes me feel so much less alone when neurodivergent creators are open and transparent about things like sensory overload.
Again, this is a wonderful reaction on this amazing clip... both my daughters have a type of autism and one also adhd....so when I see your reactions, it's pretty normal to me, haha. I like your honesty and the way you handle things! Take care and stay safe 😊
Girl who grew up in the 90s and early 2000s here who was not diagnosed with anything but realized when my daughter was diagnosed with both ADHD and Autism that everything that applied to her applied to me... I really appreciated seeing your grounding here. My daughter and I have been talking a lot about grounding techniques and I think I will show her this video so she can see that other people need to do things like this too. I really appreciate your openness with your neurodivergence and your coping strategies.
Comments like this is exactly why I do what I do the way that I do it. Thank you for sharing your kind words, and I wish you and your daughter the best of luck with your journeys 💕
I have been watching your reactions for a while. I wonder if I am the only one that can still translate Mortius when he goes all ADHD manic? Should I worry?
Thank you for using your platform to normalize neurodivergence and helping me realize that what I'm feeling while at work isn't just stress but also sensory overload (I had no idea that's what it was until I watched this video today) and thank you for showing me an exercise I can do while I'm at work to help stave it off and sort myself out. (In edit) I also have ADHD and some other signs of autism so again THANK YOU!!
@@officialmortius In all honesty I found you about an hour and a half ago and I can't stop watching your videos. Loving every moment of them. I should be in bed as I have work in 7 hours but I'm loving this too much and the more I hear Geoff Castellucci, the more I fall in love with his voice.
“You can’t just burp in the middle of a bass line” 😂😂😂 that line had me in stitches!!
Fun fact: A burp is a real audio term. In car audio bass competitions, they "burp" the subs for only a few seconds, which allows for using more wattage without overloading the system.

Even when iv E had a bad day I leave his reactions in a great mood.

Thank you for another wonderful reaction to Voice Play. I enjoy watching you get blown away by them. Keep up the good work ♥️
Pentatonix may have he best Christmas songs, but no one beats Voiceplay for Halloween 🎃.
To me, you looked like you were having WAY too much fun. :D
Never 😆
The overtone singing dipping into his chest and subharmonics always gets me too. I love that this broke you as much as it did me.
GEOFF DOING HIGH SUBHARMONICS!!!. MY GOSH
F#2 subs are easy for tenors but i dont know whats more impressive geoff hitting a Bb0 sub or an F#2 sub
This cover always makes my scalp prickle all over. Especially during Geoff's high subharmonic.
Great reaction!
whatever geoff did has always been my favorite part
My guy...nobody does reactions like you. You notice EVERYTHING! So many people miss big things that are so impressive. Not you!!!
Loved the video as always!!! And if this is how you react to this song......................you will need to superglue yourself to your chair when you watch Voiceplay's hide and seek
Having the worst cold (not COVID) in years and this just made my day so much better. Thank you, Mortius. ❤
Hope you feel better soon
Thank you! I have 3 autistic kids and they all have sensory overloads. Thank you for normalising it as a lot of people don't understand.
It would be fun to just have Geoff and Lane walk around behind you and drop beats all day based in your mood.
Great reaction Mortius.
Voiceplay and Geoff put out new Halloween videos.
Voiceplay...
Hide and Seek (Ding Dong).
Geoff...
Ghost Riders In The Sky.
Mortius already did Geoff's Ghost Riders 😁
Ghost Riders was last week :)

VoicePlay keeps breaking this man. It's amazing. XD
"Feel... i feel like... i feel... i..." me too, man, me too. Voiceplay just has that effect on people.
Thank you for being open about the over stimulation, stimming and grounding exercise. As someone who has neurodivergence, it was good to see instances like this not only normalized but dealt with matter of factly. I personally use a grounding exercise where I focus on my breathing
Also, thanks for keeping the sensory overload in! ❤ I needed the grounding and didn’t even realize it.
I am glad you took the time you needed. That is important for people to see. And for you.
Loved your reaction man, you are a sweetheart! Thank you
Thank you for:
Showing the stimming
Showing the grounding
Showing that overwhelm isn't only for negative situations
Back here 'cause what Geoff and Layne did is this one is absolutely madness
Now I need to watch this at home where I can put both ear buds in. Take care, Mortius.

“WHAT GEOFF?!”
Anytime you hear a low burp or growl, immediately accuse Geoff of being Geoff
Any time I need a mood lifter I come back and re watch this. It's perpetually in my watch later folder xD
Thank you for being you.
Those weren't overtone subs
They're normal subhamornics just that they are so high that's why they sounded like overtones
I guess they just boosted the high frequencies in it
@@david6321 no they didn't he actually demonstrated it on his channel
Will you be reacting to Hide and Seek (Ding Dong)? I can't wait to see your reaction to it! Lol another amazing Halloween song
Video will be coming October 22.
Hunh. Short ADHD, I wonder if this is another reason my feet not reaching the ground bothers me
'I'm only 30 seconds in............' EXACTLY! KEEP GOING DANG IT!
These are some of my favorite comments I ever get. Thank you for it :)
@@officialmortius In all honesty I found you about an hour and a half ago and I can't stop watching your videos. Loving every moment of them. I should be in bed as I have work in 7 hours but I'm loving this too much and the more I hear Geoff Castellucci, the more I fall in love with his voice.
