- Written by Eddie Reeves and Alex Harvey and recorded by Cymarron. The single "Rings" was a #17 hit in 1971 and was the first single release on Columbia's Entrance label. The group named themselves after the TV western "Cimarron Strip" from 1967.
I remember being a lonely young teenager of 13 listening to this in my bedroom. Bittersweet memories.
I was in basic training, Lackland AFB TX. Married with two month old
At home with my beautiful new wife. We just celebrated our 54th anniversary. What a life 😊
❤
I remember this song in 1971 and heard it intermittently in the 1970's. Now I know who sings it.
Some of the best music of the 20th century was sung by one-hit wonder groups of the 1960's and 1970's. Cymarron was no exception!
I can still remember riding around in 1971 with a friend who just got his licence , listing to this on a warm sunny Summer day ......
I wish we could all go back for awhile and reminisce together !! 🙋🏻♀️😉✌🏻❤️
Yep, that was a wonderful Summer, this was practically the theme song for it. Same, high school, driving around with friends in Southern California. Thought it would never end.
For those good old days!!! Forever young in mind!!!
All of America was riding around in the summer of '71 enjoying this song.
1971 will never die! It will live in our hearts forever!
Absolutely...one of the best years of my life
1971 was a new beginning for me at 8. I'll remember it + other things until I die.
It's songs like this that transport me back to "simpler days". I'm in my sixties now, but at least for the last 2:45 .. I became young again. Thanks for the memory. AJ
23 year old here, found these boxes of old records a while back. Taking a joy ride on the music time machine 🤙🏽
Oh wow, you've got a treasure, my friend !! I was heartbroken when my brother gave away his box of 45's !! 😭 😌
Enjoy !! 😉✌🏻❤️
I’m 71. You have goood taste.
You are highly intelligent ! There is So much music from the past 70 years, Don't miss out.
who is still listening in 2019
Yahoo!!!! Just got reacquainted w/this, love it. I was 17, yeah once lol lol still feel 20 for sure lol lol this song makes me smile so much xoxoxoxo
Oh yah it's 1/12/2020 hehhehehe
13 in 1971 and place this song as one of my favorites
Me i am 64
I am.... simple and sweet were my early 70s days hanging out spinning a better bit of music
I wore this 45 out. Music was so good back then. Nothing will ever replace it!
Lovin it!!
I still have the 45
Speak the truth ! Today's music still hasn't replace it for me.
baby come on in, got James Talor on the stereo!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me as well ✌️
This song about life and love should never be forgotten....
And it's a true story!
this song will always remain in MY HEART let 1971 return
heartbreak71 My favorite year as well, everything was perfect!
The most beautiful song ever✌
Sweet memories that will never fade away..
❤️❤️
Love it!
What a great song! That is when themes for music weren’t smutty and cheap and voices and harmonies were direct and clean.
I was fourteen years old when this came out, yet thought at the time I hope my life turns out like this.
Music was smutty then too, you just had to find it.
Great one hit wonder. Sweet to reminisce
@@stevelane6919 which means it WASN'T smutty. Smut is in your face and you can't miss it. No one cares about the dirt behind the stove as long as the counter tops are clean. and if you have to hunt for it then how much of what you find is your own interpretation?
I agree but also have to point out there is still plenty of clean GOOD music still out there. you just have to turn off the main stream.
one recommendation i have is Hollow Coves song, Coastline. (and if you want a real tear to the eye video look for one titled "Otise through the years" ... just a video of an old bear, but the song makes it incredibly touching.
They won't play these songs on the radio because they're too powerful. they want you numb and angry, not happy, in love and uplifted.
" ring, ring voices ring, with a happy tune anybody can be a singer"
very cool
Almost 50 years ago...I can't believe my youth is long gone...I am at a loss what to do
And now it has been 50 years since this song was released-right around this time in 1971(it’s summer 2021 as I reply to your comment.) Happy 50th anniversary to Cymarron’s great one hit wonder “Rings.”
You are not alone. Peace❤️
Me too, same age, same thoughts
It's a great song
Too bad it did not make the top 100 songs of 1971
Gold Winger, you're never as old as you think you are, stay young forever!
This song faded into obscurity during the heyday of oldies radio but Utube allowed us with good memories of song titles to find it again...thanks Utube and Toni Davey!
That's why I'm here. ( A little late to the party)
Very reminiscent of 1971. Too bad this song is rarely heard on the radio today,if ever.
MrJamieMurph4141969 I'm here because I heard it on the Radio.
I have a cool local station WVLI , kankakee, IL
It's now a staple on XM/Sirius Radio Channel #7 - 70's
Just heard it on KCLY-FM
MrJamieMurph4141969
Heard/hear it on KDSK radio New Mexico. You can find them at KDSK.com or on TuneIn App
Leo Kotke covers this very well
I remember hearing this as a little kid... in 1971...wow... brings back those memories of those 70,s
Me too!! Then they never played it again afterwards.
I was 14 then. It was a happy song, it still makes me feel great when I hear it.
Great song. Brings me back to 1970. Peaceful times and great fun growing up.
We're they a one hit wonder?????
Lovely
I heard this song at the Nursing home where I work, this morning. Hadn't heard this song in 50 years!
My sister and brother-in-law sang this for us at our wedding, he was strumming the guitar - awesome! Love the song!!!
A great song from when the world was young. For some reason the song popped into my head the other day--hadn't thought of it in years. Toni Davey, thanks for posting it.
Same thing here....song just popped into my head. I came across Lobo's version first, but I like cymaron better...it has just enuf edge to make it stand out. Been almost 50 years...I can't believe it
Next year will mark this song’s 50th anniversary, in fact. And the 50th anniversary of Lobo’s Me and You and a Dog Named Boo, Here Comes that Rainy day feeling again(Fortunes), Brown Sugar(Rolling Stones) and various others. 1971 was a great year.
I just heard on American Top 40 for this week August 1971 on Sirius. I can’t remember this song but I sure love it now!
It just a simple song love it you don't hear songs like this anymore sad 😔
Sadly, Eddie Reeves passed away Nov 18, 2018 ... a good friend, writer, leader, and executive at Warner Bros Records Nashville. He will be missed ...
Mike Costa Rica¡ Great song.
He posted a comment on the Reuben Howell video. I replied to hum. Sad! It is a wonderful Sony. Take a listen to Reuben's recording.
Awww. Rest In Peace.
It doesn’t get any better than this
I haven't
thought about this song for 50 years. Now hearing it I feel great sadness because, this world now is so horrible compared to the 1970s.
Awwww, God Bless Jeanne ! 😘❤️🙋🏻♀️
1971 Thomas Jefferson Junior High School Miami, Florida...
Danny Daigle, Gaye Matherly, Lauren Francis...Good memories...
Peace guys....
First grade in 71. Dad had an old green Ford station wagon, am radio . Brings back memories.
Loved this song from the first time I heard it in the 70’s
I never had a 45 of this, but loved it on the radio every time I heard it! (I was 10 or 11 years old.) Such sweet harmonies and heart. I loved (and still do) how it progresses from memories to "We'll stand upon the sand with the preacher man. Let the wedding bells ring."
Haven't heard this song in about 20 years. Great song! Brings back great childhood memories. ROCK ON!
2021, pure and beautiful song, Sure brings back memories of an era that will never be again...only God can change things....
I was sitting a restaurant yesterday with a couple of my buddies and this song was playing over the speaker.
For the life of me I tried to remember who sang it and when I left the restaurant, I lost the melody but later on that night I kept playing it over in my head and finally came up with it. Great song!!
I also remember the TV Western "Cimarron Strip" starring Stuart Whitman and Jill Townsend as "Dulcey."
This song played in a restaurant ?? Wow !! Must've had nostalgic workers there, or manager. Beautiful !! Peace, dude !! 😉✌🏻❤️🙋🏻♀️
I like to have never found who sang it!!!!
Fabulous memories. Played it loud in my blue 1971 Dodge Challenger with black vinyl top. Oh, please take me back...
Spotify needs to add this classic to their catalog! Great memories.
2:45 of pure joy, happiness, and innocence.
I always liked this song. Just shared with my daughter, who didn’t member it. Haven’t heard it in years.
I'm an old soul. I always have been and I'm out of place here.
Colleen Brown dig it, 1971 was a good year me being 13 in 1971
but not the hear then
Then come with me..lol
Hey ,I am the same,But Colleen never forget the good old days ,I remember and listen to my oldies and it makes me happy just to remember.love &Peace.
You might be surprised at how “not alone” you are.
I just heard this song for the first time tonight, while driving home from work, it's quite catchy; I was born 13 years after this came out and yet, I have an appreciation for the classics...
I remember my parents playing this a lot and I liked this song now I’m grown and still love it and I was only 8! A little girl 👧 lol I love it 🥰 beautiful song. I miss those 70,s! And I was just a kid! Lol
I come here at least once a week. I love this song and thanks for posting it with quality and playing its entire length w/o cutting it off. Thanks again
This song just popped up in my head out of nowhere, after many years of not hearing it. So I came here. (I was 10 when it came out in 1971)
I forgot how simple and romantic the lyrics were to this. I turned 61 in August, & I still love it !!! (Oct. 2022) Thanks for posting !! 😘🙋🏻♀️
Always great memories with this song from my early teens..1971🙂 best of times.
well said, this song brings back memories of a girl i met in florida on the beach with her little sister while on vacation. makes me long for those days again and wished i could have lived there.
This song is still as beautiful as it was when I bought the single over 50 years ago. Thank you for uploading this.
I babysat for Eddie Reeves' two kids around the time this record came out - he and his lovely French wife rented a house right down the street from me in Van Nuys, CA
I'm a total sucker for this romantic song. Absolute top.
THANK YOU for posting this great tune here!
I loved all these early 70's songs!
Brings back simpler times. Thank you for posting this
A lovely song from back in the day (1970s) that I kind of forgot about until I heard a version of it on a tv show. What a great song of lost love.
GREAT old song! I haven't heard it in decades. Thank you.
Bring 1971 back! Please....... Better times.
Great song -- amazing that this group didn't have more hits.
1971 8th grade for me. One hit wonder. Hit 17 on the pop charts I think.
Just heard this song on the radio this afternoon....haven't heard it in years.
Sweet memories that will never fade and always be in my ❤
Heard this on SiriusXM today. Forgot all about it. Beautiful.
Great song from a great time. Life was better then. Thanks for posting this.
Love this song reminds me of days in Job Corps Curlew Washington in the Mountains right along the Canadien border the good old days.
I just discoved this song. What an amazing tune.
Great song!!!
Not the version I heard when I was young. A woman sang. But I had had it in my head for a few days and started to search. Happy I found this. THX!!!
12 years old and already a hopeless romantic...this song added to all of that. Lol
I think the Hanson brothers could breathe life back into this beautiful song.
One of the greatest songs of the decade
Love this song could listen to it alday
Me too...
Always loved it. Always play twice or three. Drum stick tease then double drum wack then power drums along with the pretty harmonies
Love it ❣️
Remember riding with my girl friend she just loved that song. Wow what memories
Glorious, wonderful, beautiful
I sang a few lines from this tonight at the poker table. Guy in seat 5 noticed right away; his dad wrote it.
Great post for a GREAT tune! I could not remember who did it. THX!
Cymarron.
Always liked the story with the song.
This was among the most timeless of the pop classics. The mono single mix had subtle differences in the vocal delivery which made it superior to the stereo mix. (I've never found an identical version of this single in true stereo nor a digitally sourced version of the mono single mix.) One hit wonder, but what a wonder it is! Lobo's version is actually very good too, but this is the true classic single.
❤❤❤I f you ....saw Vicki porter in1984..she was..knox pa.... most lovely girl I am not kidding she was gods creation. I love her always
My first 45, produced by Chips Moman for his short-lived Entrance Records label. An auspicious start to record collecting...
Love this! It was one of my bff's favorite songs! I have tried to find it and couldn't, so glad to see it on here!
this version was the first with a slower tempo and a longer fade out at the end. the next version they were to speed up the tape, add more instruments and “brighten” the tone of the mix. I love both versions however the slower one touched my memories of this wonderful song
+Terrence Miller - I have to agree with you that this was the definitive version tho I also love the "juiced" up one. However it's the the longer outro on this version that, at least to me, makes this version so special. Funny how 25 seconds can really change a song.
+Edward Kirkland right on...
Terrence Miller I noticed the sped up version, too. This one of the best and arrangements in recorded history. In my opinion. Listen to the entire song of Kacey Musgraves song Slow Burn. You will love the arrangement. It's as magical as this
I used this version to adjust the pitch on my turntable. The cartridge and stylus should be replaced and upgrade to a higher quality (weight) tone arm as well will improve the sound quality of this ceramic type turntable.
One of my favorites from 1971.
Happy 50th anniversary to this great one hit wonder of Cymarron’s. :)
Reminds me of Sammy Johns.Chevy Van guy.)
Got Cymarron on the stereo! Love this
THIS is the one I remember.
Just a simple happy tune.great one hit wonder
