    Coach, Great video. I use that two by two passing combination but I also switch those routes and bring the #1 underneath and the #2 over the top and the QB reads the CB and if he cheats and comes down the #2 goes up sideline. If he stays back QB throws the slant. Scored 10 TDs on just that one combination because the CB thinks its a quick tunnel screen and can't help but take the bait

    Hey coach, revisiting this classic video.
    What’s your answer to cover 2 or 2 read when the corner jumps the flat and the OLB takes the slant?
    Great video!

      Cov 2 not a problem just find the window on slant and play with wheel off shoot.
      Pattern read could be trouble but a play action fake usually destroys LB’s ability to jump routes.

    Hey Coach, so I don't know if you remember me from your time at South, I played for you for 2 years, ended up having to quit due to injury. I just want to tell you, you inspired a young kid back then to strive to hit every challenge I have ever met head on. It's amazing to me now how much knowledge of the game you have. Back then I thought you were just a hardass, now I see how passionate you really are about this great game. I've spent the last couple of hours watching all of your videos here, and they are fantastic. As always, GATA. Dylan Benson c/o 2010

    I’m going all in on this concept this season (I should have called it more last season). Have you all ever though about putting double slant on one side to give answers for OPEN field coverages (Those who try to trap this concept with Cover 2)? Thank you Coach!

      CoachJefe we use double slants as a tag 👍

    What coverage gives this trouble for you guys?

    • @CoachJoeSalas
      @CoachJoeSalas  3 года назад

      On this route it’s more personal then scheme. But the Kryptonite for AirRaid is a 2 high shell with a front 4 that can pressure the QB & still leave 7 in coverage.

    Thanks, Coach Two questions: 1. Do you call the counterpunch wheel and pipe or do you give your qb and receiver the freedom to see if and run it (e.g. qb pumps and receiver knows to convert to wheel or pipe, like run and shoot)? 2. Do you ever have the shoot route run with the receiver open to the qb so that his back is not to the defense? If so how does that work? If not what's the downside to that? Thanks very much.

      Tommy Breen we do both. If QB pumps they turn up. But 99% of the time it’s called from sideline. We tried one year to run bubbles instead of shoot routes but didn’t like it and changed back the next year.

    Coach,
    Is there a max depth for the slant? And typically, do you put the first read (man slant) to the field?

    • @CoachJoeSalas
      @CoachJoeSalas  5 лет назад

      Jefe no max depth but usually between 8-12 yard catch. Usually put man side to boundary. Thanks 🏈👊

      Coach Joe Salas thanks coach. 3 step stem for slants? And I’m assuming you want the slant and shoot to rub as close as possible to each other (have you ever had them slap hands like on mesh?). Last thing... have you ever had issues with a field side shoot out running the QB’s arm?

    • @CoachJoeSalas
      @CoachJoeSalas  5 лет назад +1

      Jefe 3 step stem but don’t really care about being close on regular route. More about space unless a rub is called. Thanks buddy
