  • Red Heart Super Saver Ombre Yarn is not a transition yarn at all. It appears it is because of the subtle jumps of colours in the colour palette that is used. Learn how to manipulate the colours to your advantage.

I love these tips! For me it's never been a big deal where an ombre project transitions because I feel it gives the project character but it's nice that you can go through and pick how it will transition!

That's so cool. It was when I learned to knit socks at the beginning of the year that I even heard of manipulating the yarn. Crocheting 40 years and it's just now? Haha, not completely true. I did pull variegated to a matching spot when I'd start a new skein. For socks it was about starting at the same point in the yarn for each sock to have matching stripes . I love the idea of using these tips in my knit and crochet. Thank you!

I made a “Mile a Minute” crocheted afghan for my son. I loved the play of the different colors as the strips went along. I didn’t have to match anything up. Now I have started a C2C project with the leftover yarn. Ahem, I may need to go to get more supplies to finish it. So much for using up the leftover yarn!

I made an afghan out of this yarn in the scuba color and discovered the transition issue when I had to join a new ball. I’m a beginner so it was a challenge and I didn’t want to cut another ball so I was able to pick a ball that had the color that I needed. Now that I’m done I found your idea, which is great. I am not as stressed by joining a new ball now. Very clever behind the science tip. Thank you.

I have used this yarn many times. The aqua color does change fast, but not as fast as some cakes. I love these yarns. I use some solid yarn colors with these as well, for instance, when I do some sections of a pattern that need a solid look. Then I go right back into the ombre skein and continue. Overlay patterns work well with these ombres under. It makes a very unique look. Use a darker color for the overlay stitches. I made a chevron afghan with this yarn. The transition makes for a great look with that pattern. Can't wait to do the 2022 summer cal! Thanks, Mikey, for all you do for the crochet community.

I often run four to six skeins at the same time and if I'm not fortunate enough to get the same Dye Lots, it doesn't really matter much because I can pick and choose and play with the color at will, and I don't have to pull out too much of anyone's came to get to a nice color shade for the smooooth transition. There is always an expanse of yarn color change that will work when I do my Russian join and Keep On Truckin, baby!
Also when I get to my outer edges of the size I am making, I can have just as many rows as there were in the center. I'm not so much in favor as my color rows getting thinner and thinner the farther I go out. On a smaller blanket it's not too big a thing, but when I make a bedspread in what I call a Grannytangle, I make it long enough so that be increasing rows will afford me to be able to tuck it under the pillows like a real bedspread.
