You can purchase Red Heart Super Saver yarn on www.yarnspirations.com/ (I do not currently earn anything from any purchases viewers make from this link).
Certain colors are sometimes out of stock. In this case, check your local Wal*Mart, Amazon, or Etsy depending on your area.
*Buy Me a skein of yarn (I mean a coffee): www.buymeacoffee.com/nichecraft
    Email: nichecraftwithkassi@gmail.com
    Email for happy mail address.
*My current goal is to reach $250 USD. When I reach that amount, I will purchase 3 Knitcrate boxes of Mystery Yarn and put at least 15 of the hanks into a celebratory giveaway!

Red Heart may not be the softest yarn but it wears like cast iron. I still have slippers that my grandma knitted 50+ years ago.

Omg. I have not been a fan of Red Heart. It irritates my skin when I work with it. So many have talked about softening up. Well I tried it ….. wow. So soft.

i've only ever seen red heart ombre at joann's until now, i hadn't realized that there were more color options! this was a dangerous thing to learn when i already wanted so many of the colors

Thanks for the tip. I do find the Ombre's to be softer than the others. My favorite color of the Red Heart Ombre (I also pronounce it ombray), is Jazzi - the bright pink one.

Aah thank you for this video! I have some red heart yarn that is soooo scratchy and I was reluctant to crochet with it because of the texture (fellow autism/adhd haver) but I'm going to try this out with the headband I'm making as a little tester to see how it feels ❤

Thanks for this, Kassi. I love the look of Red Heart Ombre (I pronounce it ombray 😊), but I'm avoiding using it because of a Christmas Red Heart that I bought last year; it was so rough and scratchy that I can't even touch it, and can't imagine snuggling up in a blanket of it. My skin isn't sensitive, but I have OCD, so my feelings get hurt, if you can understand that. "Ooh, I don't like that, I'm never touching it again. Ever" ☺️

I live in an apartment building and I use dryer sheets all the time. Have never noticed any kind of buildup in my dryer. I use dryer sheets, so I don’t have the lug a big heavy bottle of softener into the laundry room. I also use tide pods. I get the kind that has all kind of stuff in it and I’m sure that helps.I wash all my knitted and crocheted out and tied, and dry them with dryer sheets. Everything turns out soft and squishy, just the way you wanted to.

Hi Kassi! When I get bored watching stuff on telly I switch to your channel and play catchup.
I love Redheart! I'll be 68 years old in June of course I've been using Redheart since I was 7 years old.
No brand I've found has as varied amount of colors and styles.
I keep a stash of Redheart because I can always find a color that works for my projects.
I knew Redheart softened in the wash, but I never tried putting fabric softener in with the was.
Thanks so much for this great tip Kassi!

I don't use detergent for anything any more including yarn items I use washing soda which is all natural ingredients also in the dryer I use dryer balls that are wool they gently massage the fabrics I think the roughness may be from the dye for that particular colors

Great information, thank you. I have a question. Can you put a whole skein of Red Heart yarn in the washer with the softener so the yarn is soft when you crochet with it? I didn't know if this is feasible or not. Thank you.

    • @paulakneifel4104
      @paulakneifel4104 3 месяца назад +1

You would probably have to make long tied skeins and then rewind. I actually did it by hand in the sink after ripping back half an afghan someone else made with the ombré yarn and it came out really nice and the musty smell was gone from long storage as well.

Hi, my name is Sandy and I am from Cincinnati. I am eight years old and have been using red heart yarn for a very long time. They are bright and durable and easy to find. I do a lot of cheating, knitting and crocheting so I want to use yarn that I know will hold up the time And a lot of washing.
I find that if I wash my crocheted or knitted item that has been made from Zz Super saver, That those items are going to become very soft and squishy. Believe me, if this were not the case, I would not use it my philosophy is that if it is not pretty or durable is anything I would give one of my grandchildren I will not give it to one of yours. I do use other yarn, but I usually go back to red heart. Lion bran is also a big favor of mine. I love their yarn. And I feel so lucky that I live in an area where there are lots of Joannes, Michaels, HOBBY LOBBY, store, and Walmart. We also have a lot of local yarn jobs. I don’t shop there very often, because their prices are just too high for my budget. And once they find out you crochet, they will either ignore you, or not be particularly nice to you or helpful.

If you like pink, you also might like Red Heart's Ombre in Jazzy as well. That's a more bright pink while Anenome is a more rose pink. The liquid fabric softener seriously works so well!

Im making my first blanket and am still relatively new to crocheting (and just anything to do with yarn in general). Does the yarn fade or bleed at all when you wash it?, ive seen alot of people say washing and drying it works wonders to make it softer, but im terrified to actually put it in the washer and dryer cause I'm worried I'll ruin it😅

I am crocheting an afghan with Red Heart Ombre in purple. The yarn is so harsh that it is tearing up my fingers. Once this project is done, I may never use it again. It hurts! Once it is crocheted, the blanket feels pretty good, but I will wash it once it is finished.

Omg red heart acrylic is like BURLAP!! Ugh it’s sooo scratchy and stiff. I hope this helps cause I can’t keep up this luxury blanket yarn addiction, I HAVE to start walmart-ing my yarn purchases. $11/skein is unsustainable for me. But cheap acrylic yarn makes my blood boil!!!

Liquid fabric softener is actually quite bad for your washer. If you are going to use it, just use a TBSP of it. You should also only use a TBSP of detergent. I actually use vinegar when washing my crochet projects especially if I am going to gift or sell. I use a TBSP in the detergent compartment and a TBSP in the softener compartment. It is a natural softener and deodorizer. It makes Red Heart stupid soft.

I bought the jazzy. It was so hard it made my hand and wrist hurt. I pulled firm at least 4 projects. And it’s really standing up to this. But I just can’t take it. I want to cry. Never have I wanted to finish something anything. With a color. When I say it’s a battle. The owner should be arrested. I have had 3 RA flare ups from batting That yarn with my hook. No Ty.

Its kind of shocking to me the reasoning you have for not using dryer sheets.
My uncle was a appliance repair man for years and I've never heard that dryer sheets leave a residue (ive always used wool balls) HOWEVER it is very known that fabric softener DOES leave a film on the exterior of your drum that builds up over time and traps gunk in it since it does not acrually dissolve. So its a good idea to either take it apart and steam clean it every few years (depends on the number of loads) or use a washer cleaner tablet with hot water every month or two to get rid of the build up
