    We really enjoyed Hoi An when we were there just over a month ago. We found it definitely gets a bit touristsy in the evenings but during the day there was plenty of things to do around the place. It was actually the first place we tried vlogging (that video never saw the light of day 😂). Really enjoying the Vietnam vids Gabriel 🙂 keep em coming!

      Hoi An is great for bicycling because it's flat. No hills to contend with. One major issue is flooding. They need to fix the drainage system. At least when I was there the tickets to different exhibits the revenue collected goes toward fixing the flooding problem.

    The restaurant you went to and the guy came out to greet you, is 1 of about 4 restaurants owned by the same woman and she does cooking classes. Her main one “morning glory” is one you have to go too. Tam Tam “lots of lantern outside” is a good place to sit and have a drink watching the chaos go passed 👍

    Xe om = motorcycle taxi (literally translates as vehicle hug, cuz ya better....cute!) What you pointed out is a Xich lo or cyclo, from the French. They used to be everywhere, now disappearing. Life isn’t complete till you’ve ridden on both. Just be sure to agree price in advance. Also check out 1735 Km, a pretty recent feature film, subtitled in English (free on RUclips.) You’ll enjoy the part set in Hoi An, plus it offers some nice perspective on Vietnamese values, etc. Take the advice from the film: When in Hoi An, don’t forget to look up. That’s how you see the beauty of the old town most clearly. Enjoy!

    That little ancient town was my favourite part of Vietnam. You have to eat the Cao Lau, i had it many times and the best one was inside the market. Also, in one of the streets of the market, there's an open cafe/bar and they make delicious cold Vietnamese coffee with rum lol. Loved it!

  • @Swampzoid
    @Swampzoid 5 лет назад +1

    Make sure you see the 500 year old Japanese Bridge which is right in town there. I went early in the morning and had the whole bridge to myself with no tourist. P.S., people are commenting that it looks too touristy there but I found if you go just a few blocks away from the waterfront it's still beautiful and fascinating. It's truly a must see town I think.

  • @avtarjohore7297
    @avtarjohore7297 5 лет назад +2

    Hoi An while touristy is easier to get around by cycle and motorbike in comparison to most cities eg Hanoi or HCMC because i was told cars are not allowed in the old city and even outside that much fewer cars. I found it was reasonable and after finding a noisy hotel by that bridge i changed to a quieter nicer one on the beach road. Food is awesome and good value too i tried a couple of the specialities but when i go back to Vietnam i will revisit here and stay longer :)

    There is a cheap bus from danang to hoi an and vice versa. Make sure you get to the river right when it gets dark as the boats light up their lanterns for about an hour. Also before you leave Vietnam make sure you spend all your Vietnam money as you can’t exchange it at the airport.

    It seemed as if you were strolling though the ancient town 500 years ago with all the ancient buildings and beautiful silk lanterns on the streets. As an exotic and beautiful destination for travelers, Vietnam has a unique and captivating history. The Vietnamese cuisine is healthy and delicious, the people are friendly, the scenery is spectacular, and the diverse climate and geography from north to south is quite amazing. Vietnam would be a perfect country without communism, which is still dominant there, sadly.

    Apparently, Mekong Delta is something not to be miss while in the country. Mandarines are good. Other fruits not so. I go on can juice all day long. Good, cheap and nutritif. Got rain in Thailand and Laos. No rain in Cambodia and so far either in Vietnam. I'm desapointed with Mui né.. heading to Phu Quoc Only Thailand is expensive. And Vietnam is the cheapest..I usually pay between 150-250 for a room. Those at 200 have hot water and often a fridge. Keeps me from pulling out those from my luggages.

    What is an American doing in Hoi An Vietnam? Checking to see how far his country achieved in bombing the country back to the stone age ? I have lived, loved and worked in Vietnam. Go home and mend your own country. Vietnam does not need you. But to those who care : Hoi An on a Sunday morning before the tourists arrive is wonderful. Hoi An in full tourist mode is full of energy. The people smile and are friendly and helpful. I have been there at least a dozen times.

    I have traveled to many countries...Few things about Vietnam that i do not find other developed countries 1)cheap Vietnamese tasty food 2) Access to the beach....you can swim all years long....you can't go swimming in Korea or Japan or Taiwan or anywhere European countries in the winter...yes you can do that in Vietnam 3) Primitive life in few remote city as where you can watch buffaloes, Cows, chicken, farming animal running wild or walking on the dirt path......this is why we travel so we can enjoy the cultural differences....there is saying that...we are happy when we are young regardless of where we live....when we get old...life is suck also regardless of where we live......So happy travel whenever you can....don't wait to be happy and welcome to Vietnam.

      Go a few blocks off the main touristy drag and it's such a beautiful and fascinating city. I loved it there.

      @@Swampzoid Cool. I'm flying back to Asia in April. I might check out Vietnam on the trip. I know it is super cheap.

    Vietnam is an amazing place, I spent 2 days in Hoi An and couldn't get out of there quick enough,, it isn't a very nice place..

      Simon Walker depends on what you like, Hue has some incredible history, anywhere north of Hanoi is fabulous.
      South of Hanoi I found a little boring, very flat, I prefer hills and mountains, but that’s me.
      Just go and “trust your journey”, great things happen
