Thrilling and very evocative as reminds me of an uncle who often drove his Minor at these speeds but even he did worry slightly about his big-ends in the 1098 engine at warp 75 !

thanks for the little ride, pure enjoyed it! laugh it that car has seen a lot of models come and go over the decades, and its still more reliable and better built etc than anything that was on the A1 with it.

Yeah, love it ! we have a video similar airing tonight driving in a 1952 Riley, added a bit of music only because there are some drone shots else I would have enjoyed the engine singing, nice one !

Should probably say somewhere in the title or description that this is a 1098 swapped car not the original 948, I was a bit confused until I read the comments..!

No she has a standard 1098 , single carb - the diff is a lower ratio as was originally a 948 car, so does rev quite high at motorway speeds.

My dad had 12 siblings, and when I was a kid in the early 1960'ies two pairs of Uncles/Aunts had a Minor - or a "Morris Ten-Hundred" as we call it here. They had 2 and 3 kids respectively. Another Uncle/Aunt-pairing had a Lloyd Alexander, and a fouth pair a NSU Prinz 4. Our neighbours had a Fiat 600 and we had a Beetle 1200. And, as I recall it, we all went where we wanted, when we wanted. We didn't need a 2 tonnes airconditioned behemoth to do that... But it might just be me becoming a sort of dinosaur.

Do you favour a particular brand of oil? Or use any additives? I used to drive my 1098 at 75-80 mph for quite long periods - it never BROKE the engine, but I believe that I forced an oil seal somewhere by overfilling the sump, in my efforts to be zealous about having a good quantity of oil in there before such journeys. I'd recommend to be scrupulous about checking the dipstick when the car is standing perfectly level and has had plenty and plenty of time for all the oil to have dropped into the sump. And then do NOT fill it even one jot above the full mark. ;-)

    Hello,
I bought two cars from Duncan Hamilton who had a garage in Bagshot in the late 70s. One was an A40, and the other was a Morris Minor. I paid £28 for the pair.
The A40 was too rusty for the MOT test, but it had a perfect balance engine. Whether it had been 'blueprinted' or just lucky, I do not know. I think it belonged to the secretary at Hamilton's garage.
The Minor however did pass the MOT but the engine used a bit of oil. The plan, (there always is a plan isn't there!) , was to swap over the engine. It never happened. Anyway I was doing a contract job down in Farnborough and I was living in West London so a blast down the M3 was required twice a day.
The Minor was a superb car in every respect.
It did this with the speedometer pretty much off the clock no problem at all.
The oil consumption however provided a very elegant solution to gallons of old oil in my garage that had come from oil changes from other cars that I had had.
I would not use the last inch or two in the can when I topped up the Minor.
I do however have to apologise to other road users of the M3 for the fine application of oil on the road as most seemed to leak out judging by the road surface where it was parked.
    Happy days.
It lasted a year until replaced by a Reliant Kitten estate.
That is another story!! Needless to say, the Kitten has a power to weight ratio to embarass Porche owners in the 0 to 20 traffic light drag! and I did!
    Happy motoring to you all.
    Ray Peto

From what I've seen online, the absolute maximum is about 73mph. However, you can comfortably cruise down the motorway at 50/60 in one (though as you can tell it's a bit loud!)

I don’t think I’d be pushing it that far. My 850 engined Reliant has slightly higher gearing and I’ll go to 60 in that, which is 3500rpm, quite enough. A Minor is a car I’ve wanted for years though!

Here in America, driving on the main highways I would see, whst I call " packs" of cars all racing as a group. I stay away from. They like to pass each other and like a game. If one car loses control in the pack. I use to let them pass me, even slow down to get them on their way
