  • This is a follow up video to my recent fabric haul at Walthamstow Market.
My first make is my drop shoulder coat using this Trends Pattern:
    www.trendpatte...
It's classed as "moderate", it is fairly straight forward to make and I added a lining to it.
My sequin clutch bag is made from a small scrap of fabric, the final measurements are 28x23cm or 11"x9".
I cut a panel 30x48cm or 12"x9" in the sequin outer, cotton calico for interlining and cotton poplin for lining. I treated the sequins and interlining as one and used the poplin lining to bag out the zip.
My wrap top (work in progress!) - I used Simplicity pattern S9133 Bought from www.thefoldline.com for the basic front and back of the bodice, I cut the sash 30cm deep and approx. 120cm long (each), I will make these in a double layer and bag out on the final garment, attached into the side seam, I will show you when it is finished!
    Sequins!
    The Vogue article is at:
www.vogue.com/... (you may need a subscription to read this!)
My shop report was squeezed into my Christmas shopping trip at Westfield Stratford East London.
I bought my sequin fabrics locally, they cost me about £6.00 a metre. The dress pattern I will use to make a top is also from Trend patterns and is called the "Twist Dress".

    Back soon with sequin separates!

Gemima, what is the fabric content you used for your very interesting Trends Pattern coat? Thanks for the tip about your using Trends Patterns. I hadn't heard of them before.

Thanks for your quick reply. Do you know what the fabric is you used for the coat? Is it a blend of different fibres? It looks quite heavy with a smooth surface. Very interesting.

Hi, it’s a double faced jersey although I’ve used it as if it’s a singled faced fabric and I have lined it conventionally. It’s an end of line fabric so there was no fibre content or weight info when I bought it but I guess it’s a wool blend with a bit of polyester in it, I plan to dry clean it anyway. Hope that helps.
