I supported KP until he recovered from injury and Rudolph was still the starter.

So on other words by signing Russ because the team wanted to be cheap it blew up the QB room. Because no way was Mason coming back with Russ on the way because he'd be relegated to 3rd string again and Kenny knew it wasn't going to a competition. You don't sign a vet with Russ' name recognition and resume and not make him the automatic starter. Doesn't matter how many times Omar and Tomlin said it would be a competition. So Kenny had every right to be upset.
That being said, how he went about handling it is unfortunate. I was hoping he use this time to work on his game and improve because he could have been the starter again after Russ because Russ is NOT a long term solution. Now Kenny is 100% a career backup. So it's a shame it didn't work out because I was rooting for him but oh well. We're just even less certain about the future than before but that's OK. Just draft a new guy to sit behind Russ I guess. 🤷‍♂️

I mean I said there was no way they were trading for Fields before, but now I almost advocate it. Because the problem with the Steelers is that they're not a SB team, but they're never going to be bad enough to get a top pick either. So if you trade for Fields you at least get someone with some proven traits and he can sit behind Russ for a year or two.

I'd rather just use a mid-late round pick on a Pratt, Rattler, Milton type than trade for Fields. His contract situation becomes too complicated after this season. Picking up his 5th year option without him proving he's a capable starter would be too risky in my opinion. Had they not signed Russ, it would have made much more sense even though I'm not personally that high on him. So rather than trading a pick for a one year backup, use it on someone who can possibly develop into something, even if it's only a longer term backup.

I agree but they can get a cheap vet to sit behind Russ without wasting a pick on a dude who A) won't start, B) might suck if he does have to start, and C) might be gone after this year. I'd personally rather save the that pick for a developmental QB in the draft. Fields will likely be available again next year. Ride with Russ, veteran backup and rookie then re-evaluate after the season IMO. @@hsny76h4l9

He did not play that well and his stats are very inflated. It's not like he didn't have weapons either. He had Cortland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy which is honestly better than what we have right now. Also, Sean Payton is a better offensive coach than Arthur Smith will ever be so if he couldn't be great with Sean Payton then what makes anyone think he's going to be great with Arthur Smith?

So, if Kenny felt misled... ...how do you think Mason Rudolph felt when they told him it was going to be his team after Big Ben retired and then they brought in Mitch Turdbiscuit and drafted Kenny Pickett. And then had a supposed QB competition that Mason did as well if not better than everyone else and wound up as the 3rd string QB not even being able to dress for games! I am a Steelers fan, born in Latrobe, PA and if I were a Steelers player right now, I wouldn't trust a thing that management says. When I now look back on why James Harrison was so upset his last year with the Steelers, I believe everything he had to say. Russell Wilson, The Messiah of Pittsburgh has come and he had better be able to part the Three Rivers and walk across their dry riverbeds with bare feet bearing Steeler victories in his arms... ...is all I am saying!

Pickett is not a franchise QB. He was more of a story (Pitt to Pittsburgh) than his ability and upside. The QB class was weak that year and Ben was at the end so they reached for him. No opponent fears him. He's a good solid player with some intangibles, but he can't carry a team. He should have been drafted in the middle rounds. He's a solid backup to serviceable starter but you won't make it far into the postseason unless you have the 2000 Ravens defense and Jim Brown as your RB.

This is the absolute best scenario 🔥 Now we can no question draft a QB 1st round to learn behind Russ. Think about the Steelers strategy the year after Ben retired.. we brought in Mitch to be the vet and reached for Pickett in a bad draft class. Now we have a loaded QB draft class and a major upgrade at vet Russ over Mitch… plus regardless of what happened in Denver Russ is only 35.. Kirk cousins is the same age and just got a 4 year 180 million contract. We got Russ for 1.3 and he’s won a SB. Penix Jr is an upgrade over Kenny.

Kenny was given every opportunity to succeed Ben as the next franchise QB. His reported negative reaction to being told that Russell Wilson will start the 2024 season should have been enough for him to be even more determined to take over the starting spot. There is also the fact that there are no assurances that Russell will play at a high level or that he will stay healthy all season.
