      Lmao let’s spend to build around him as if he doesn’t have a very much above average skill group with 2 really solid backs and an improving line. He ain’t it. I watched this video to try and convince myself that he is and it still didn’t work 😂😂😂

      @@dylancook5487 Per ESPN Analytics, DJ and Pickens are both top-10 receivers in this league when you divorce their performance from QB play/scheme. Just based on getting open, and catching ability, they are both elite. Per, well, anyone you might happen to ask, Najee and Jaylen are a top-five RB unit (I’d argue they’re top-one) and Freiermuth is criminally under-rated as a big-body slot. Then you have role players like Darnell, Connor, ARob and Calvin… any way you slice it that’s a fantastic group of weapons.

      Consistency definitely the biggest concern. There are legit SportsCenter highlights in here. The kid can do it, he just intersperses it with a whole bunch of meh and a bit too much yuck.

    If he could throw the ball flat-footed it would help him a lot, but he has to step into pretty much any throw beyond 15 yards. That extra step he has to take to wind up to throw adds about another half second that the line needs to protect him which is A LOT of time in the NFL

  • @HappyGameASMR

    Those 2 damn gloves though! 😂 It's gimmicky and odd he's not good enough to play without them at this level of the game. And still no accuracy or double pump fakes. Lol. We needed a QB and he was a local fan favorite at Pitt with one good 5th year of college.

  • @Mostradamus9
    @Mostradamus9 9 месяцев назад +3

    Do you think he can be good or not and why?

    • @Steely_Cam
      @Steely_Cam  9 месяцев назад +4

      There's no "thinking" about it; he can be good and he has shown flashes of good, verging on very good, almost tempting me to pull out the g-word (great). Consistency is the issue. He appears uncomfortable in the pocket and the OL have told us it's a lot easier to block for a guy (Mason) when you know where he's going to be.
      Kenny came off the bench for Trubisky last year because Mitch was playing too safe. The narrative was "with TJ down we can no longer rely on our D to win games, so we have to go out there and sling it, for better or worse." That's who Kenny was last preseason. Somehow they've crossed like ships in the night; now Mitch is the gunslinger and Kenny is the Steady Eddie? Both those guys were confused about what the team wanted from them which resulted in neither playing to their strengths. Ultimately what lost Matt Canada his job was the "inability to be himself" as Tomlin said.
      Right now Kenny doesn't know who he is. He saw himself as a starter (he refused to play second fiddle in Seattle, don't believe anyone who says different) and he saw himself as a man who was above criticism from a female reporter. He hasn't earned anything in this league, not a starting spot and for sure not the holier-than-thou attitude.

      The thing Rudy has figured out that Mr. "You Can't Learn Anything From the Sideline" hasn't? The pocket is a much safer place to be for a QB than on the run.

    • @snagginbirdies1006
      @snagginbirdies1006 8 месяцев назад

      @@Steely_Cam Are you even watching your own video. He is getting SMASHED in the pocket, not out on the run. He was the most pressured (54% of pass plays) and most hit QB in the entire NFL. The only thing "Rudy" figured out was it's nice to play two of the bottom four defenses in the league followed by the ravens practice squad. He was pressured at 15% average per game. The O line didn't magically learn to block better because of Mason, they just played shitty competition in his games. For reference Kenny Pickett has had exactly 2 games his entire career where his pressured rate was 16% or below. Guess what game was one of them, that shitty Bengals team he played and put up identical numbers that Mason did. He's not responsible for shit o line play, that's plain stupid.

    • @Steely_Cam
      @Steely_Cam  8 месяцев назад

      @@snagginbirdies1006 you have confidence, I’ll give you that. Sure, the level of competition didn’t hurt. The OL magically got better because the guy they were protecting stayed where tf he’s supposed to be. Here’s another stat for you: Pickett was pressured on only 52.1% of scrambles, per SportsInfoSolutions. That’s the lowest number in the NFL. Only Bryce Young and Derek Carr have a lower QBR from outside the pocket than Pickett.

    • @snagginbirdies1006
      @snagginbirdies1006 8 месяцев назад

      @@Steely_Cam That is flat wrong. The O line is supposed to maintain a pocket on a pass play. Period. How could that really matter? They have their backs to the guy, block your guy, simple. He had the most free runners in the NFL. The O line was and is trash, they looked better because of the community college level competition when Mason played.
      As far as pressured on scrambles, I guess you are trying to make the argument he bails too early. And I agree he has happy feet and looks uncomfortable a lot. But I think you'd be very hard pressed to find any QB that is the most hit QB, most pressured QB, and has the most free runners coming that wouldn't get happy feet. Dude just watch your own video, these are his highlight throws and he is regularly getting absolutely hammered. Now add in all the times he literally isn't given enough time to make a throw and he's getting smashed. He doesn't trust his O line, I don't blame him, I wouldn't either. Neither would you bud

    • @Steely_Cam
      @Steely_Cam  8 месяцев назад

      @@snagginbirdies1006 Exactly. They have their backs to the guy. The defense is facing the QB; they will always be able to react and re-track before the OL knows what’s happening. When the target point (the spot the QB is standing) moves you no longer have to go through the OL, you can simply go around. P.S. I won’t remind you again to watch your tone.

    One thing you notice is the delivery.he doesn't have good arm strength so it almost like he winds up which absolutely the worst tip off to the defense.even though he didn't throw many int.his passing game wasn't able to elevate because of his lack of arm strength.where other qbs can just flick it from many different angles.picket is constantly trying to by time to set his feet.because he can't make throws unless he gets his base set.he will never be an NFL elite QB.

    • @Steely_Cam
      @Steely_Cam  8 месяцев назад

      He’ll never be a great NFL qb. “Good” is still on the table, at least “good enough” given tremendous rushing/defensive support, as he should have in 2024. If that doesn’t make him look competent…he’s staring down the barrel of a backup gig in Arizona.

      He’s the worst TD thrower in NFL history. I know people want to lay that at 🇨🇦’s feet but - and I know you know this - they were still calling his plays in Cincy, and in Seattle, and in Baltimore. When the players bought in it actually works.

    He doesn’t do anything particularly well. His arm is average at the absolute best, his pocket presence is atrocious, and his accuracy got worse from year one to year two. I didn’t think he was good coming out of Pitt and thought it was a bad pick. Unfortunately, I’ve been right so far. Hopefully he improves under Arthur Smith.

      @@Steely_Cam I agree, man. I’m almost to the point where he just is who he is because he doesn’t do anything to where you are like “yeah, we can build on that.” Ben’s wasn’t an elite QB early in his career, but he showed signs of living up to the potential of being that in the future.
