      CSP is so damn cheap for that it gives you, it's unbelievable. My only problem is that the launcher and shop is really, really slow. I'm not sure what the problem is, maybe the servers are stationed in Japan or whatever lol but god, it's awful. Brush sites load 5-10 seconds sometimes but I prefer it a lot over photoshop

    Thanks for your video. Just one remark: Clip Studio is not so much a rebranding of Manga Studio. The CSP name was already used in Japan, but the software was distributed in the USA and europe as Manga Studio. So it is basically the same software, just now under a unified name.

    • @JGVIllustrations
      @JGVIllustrations  4 года назад +14

      As much as I enjoyed her nicely presented video and lovely artwork, it's obvious that she was not familiar with Photoshop's many amazing tools and features, so she did miss completely, that there is a simple way to make lines thinner or thicker.
      Clip Studio Paint IS a great price and I'm not knocking it, but many of the things that she states Photoshop can't do, are simply because she is not familiar enough with it.

    Great video. Affinity Photo and Designer is a good Photoshop alternative for photos and design stuff. Affinity and Clip Paint also have way better iPad apps than Adobe. For such a large company they shouldn't be as far behind as they are. That integration between iPad and my desktop is one of the many reasons I stopped using Adobe.

    • @JGVIllustrations
      @JGVIllustrations  4 года назад

      I’ve never heard of Affinity (but then again I don’t really do photography work), is it as inexpensive as Clip Studio? I know that ipad-desktop integration with Clip Studio is pretty seamless (although obviously it’s going to be a bit more limited than the full desktop version), but the required subscription kills me. I use Procreate instead for the iPad and I love it. And that’s SO TRUE--Adobe’s apps are really subpar compared to other similar apps, considering it’s such a big company and their products are industry-leading. I’ve always wondered why that is

    • @celestethoms
      @celestethoms 4 года назад +2

      @@JGVIllustrations The desktop version is $50 and the iPad version is $20. Affinity Designer is for raster and vector art. They too will have great discounts and drop the price 50-60%. Photoshop have stabilization by default . They introduced this feature when they swapped to the subscription model i think . It's less advanced than the one you find in clip studio paint but it's there . There is also lazy mezumi available that give you even more option than clip studio . But other than that i agree with you . Photoshop it's not designed for digital painting . It's mainly designed for photo-editing / manipulation but it's so powerful that can do pretty much everything . They also added the wet-brush tool that will help you to simulate oils and watercolors they added also some natural media brushes that work great . I use mainly Corel Painter as my main painting software and i love it but if needed i switch to photoshop for some editing and to use some filter . I used clip studio a lot when i tried to do some comics and i still use it often and it's great . The thing i love the most is that it's very stable and light weight and it have a lot of features specific for illustrator and comic artists . the only thing i don't like a lot with clip studio is that the standard brushes are not great and it lack liquify but other than that for illustration is better than photoshop from different point of view . Great video btw ! You should try krita too . I think you will love it and it's totally free . Keep up the good work😎

    • @JGVIllustrations
      @JGVIllustrations  3 года назад +1

      Yes! They did introduce it when they launched the subscription service and it’s not as good as CSP’s. I mentioned Lazy Nezumi in my video because it’s a popular add-on. That’s funny that you switch softwares depending on what you need to do and I think that’s the smartest way to go for sure. That was the point of my video--to dispel the idea that Photoshop is the one-all program for art, there are so many better options for specific art things you need to do and I hope artists consider CSP as an option if they haven’t already.
      I like Krita! It’s awesome that it’s free--I haven’t explored it too much so I’m not really familiar with all of its features but I like it. I agree with you too--CSP is lightweight and stable, I should’ve mentioned that in the video darn it! I think CSP has crashed on me maybe 2 times in the years I’ve used it and it doesn’t slow down my computer. What an excellent point. Thank you for sharing :)

    Thank you very much for your helpful information! It is great that Adobe CreativeCloud gets competitors - it can affect the pricing in the future! If I can afford it, I'd probably buy both, Clip Studio for painting and Photoshop for designing. Right now, I am not willing to pay 600€ annually for Creative Cloud/Photoshop and animations if and when there are other options at a much lesser price. It depends on how successful you are financial. I am grateful for the Clip Paint possibility! I like Photoshop, anyway, and Illustrator. I do not have experience with Clip Paint - I found it today, but by now, I feel it fascinating!

      I know right! I’d love to put some pressure on them to not be so harsh on independent artists. I agree, it does depend on how financially you stand. I know it’s expensive....$600 annually is A LOT. But I honestly don’t have an alternative software to recommend if you work strictly in graphic design/vector art. If you are a graphic designer, for the sake of your career, it might be best to stick to Adobe illustrator for now. If you don’t make a lot a vector art then YES, check out Clip Studio Paint and let me know if there is anything you’d like me to cover for you to learn.

      Awesome! Yes, that is true, there aren't as many courses out there like there are for Photoshop, luckily RUclips is an excellent resource for getting know how to use CSP--- I have tutorials in my channel on making CSP art as well. As far similar features---their basic features are fairly similar: layers, brushes, image adjustments, yeah pretty similar enough. It's learning what makes CSP different from Photoshop that is more interesting! (they're line adjustment controls, database of art resources like textures and 3d models, comic-making features, etc...)

      I have tried Krita and it’s a lovely free art software. CSP is still far superior with it’s many features for drawing and its online database of resources (both mentioned in my video). Krita is pretty simple--it’s still great if you are just starting to use digital art and you’re on a tight budget. I also like Krita’s simple interface, but it simply doesn’t have anywhere near the features CSP has, and that’s okay :) Thank you so much for watching!

    Great video! Im more of adobe illustrator user for digital art. Because I vector my art. But recently got into Clip studio paint, but have not done anything on it yet. Ive been watching a ton of videos because I'm in that learning curve. But i would like to draw something on it soon. I see that it also uses vector. So I'm I want to see how this can be compared to Ai. Also Bryan Allen is amazing! I have his brushes also and follow his work and videos. Do you draw in pixel or vector? Or what's your take on vector? I feel that i will love Clip Studio Paint, but I'm finding it difficult to get use to because there's so much 😅

    • @JGVIllustrations
      @JGVIllustrations  4 года назад

      That's so funny that you say that because I feel the SAME way about Adobe Illustrator. I can't tell you how many times I've tried learning how to use it and have not managed to make anything out of it, haha. Vector art is more technical, in my opinion, because you're more manipulating shapes and curves to get the right shapes--it's much more geometric and less "organic" than say straight drawing/painting, so that's probably why it's hard for me to ever make the transition to vector art. I've tried pixel art but I don't have the patience! Lmao. Honestly, it makes sense why grasping Clip Studio might feel slow for you, I would say start small and simple by just making a few drawings with the G-Pen tool and playing around with the stabilization attribute (inside the brush tool's settings). Once you got that down, move to coloring it with just one brush tool. I don't think Clip Studio is better with vector than Adobe, so I wouldn't trust a big switch if you're looking to replace it.

    • @Shenelly
      @Shenelly 4 года назад

      Thank you! This was helpful. Yeah, I was thinking the vector layers in CSP would be useful since I am using a brush. But I’m confused as to how they work and if I can export straight to print without modifications when I’m done and If it doesn’t get pixelated changing size. But you’re right at the most. Since I’m in the learning curve, I’ll start out small and work my way through everything.

    From what I've seen from videos on YT I can pretty much do everything I want to do in CSP except logo design and text work which I'll still use PS for but for everything else I'm gonna be using Clip Studio Paint from now on. i'm just curious to know what happens to the photoshop in your computer when the subscription expires and you stop paying adobe? does it disappear or can you not use it anymore?

    • @JGVIllustrations
      @JGVIllustrations  3 года назад

      I can tell you right now what happens 😂 I’ve always had a bootleg Photoshop, either CS3 or now CS6, but I accidentally downloaded a trial version of another adobe product to try....so now, through some nasty Adobe spyware or whatever, they have disabled my bootleg Photoshop. And you’re wondering what does “disable” mean and look like right? Well it’s about 30 days of a pop-up window that you can’t exit out of (unless you Ctr +alt+del it but it comes back 15 minutes later) so I have just gotten in the habit of moving the window down to the very bottom of the screen. But it’s been 30 days now so it has disabled the my bootleg program, it won’t fully open and I still get that stupid pop-up every day. I now exclusively use Clip Studio Paint, especially since they recently updated their text editing capability to be less crappy, so I don’t use Photoshop at all but I still get the stupid pop-up. I have more techie friends who could probably help me disable the pop-up window or better yet uninstall all of Adobe because I’m 100% over Adobe, so I will reach out to them eventually. But since you’re asking--this is my experience with a bootleg Adobe product being recognized by Adobe. If your question is more specifically what ‘happens when your subscription expires,’ I’m sure it’s the same annoying tactics where it, obviously, won’t allow you to use the program, and gives you a stupid pop up window to remind you that your ridiculously expensive subscription has expired for infinitum.
      Do I sound salty? Yes. Don’t be fooled to think that you need to pay for Photoshop if you’re an illustrator. If you think you do, please reach out to me and I would be happy to guide you to how to use Clip Studio Paint. It has become almost a personal moral mission for me. Artists don’t deserve this corporate garbage of what Adobe makes you go through to use even basic digital art tools that one can access for free (like Krita) but even Clip Studio Paint is reasonably priced for the incredible features it offers.

    Everybody fell in love with Clip Studio Paint. I got onboard immediately when it went from Manga Studio 4, to version 5. Version 5 was a whole different ballgame. The price was cut in half, then cut in half again. In terms of drawing, it was amazing. So we all fell in love it. I bought copies for the whole family. LOL For real. But I've been a Photoshop user for decades and I'm still a Photoshop user. CSP being cheaper is a great thing, as long as it can get the job done. If your work fits within the scope of what CSP can do, then you win big time. For me though, Drawing or painting is only a part of what I do so Clip Studio has never actually replaced Photoshop. It just replaces a part of what I sometimes did in Photoshop. Drawing and painting. But Photoshop still has a TON of features and functions that CSP doesn't have. Another thing about Photoshop is that it's still a lot faster than CSP.
    By the time CSP for iOS came out, the good folks behind this great software began to tip their hand. They began to show us why they made it so cheap. The plan must have been to get as many people on board as possible, then finally move to a subscription model. First, they did it with the iOS version. Now, the desktop version also has a subscription option. It's exactly how other companies approached subscriptions. First, as an option then eventually, they remove the perpetual license option completely. CSP will of course take the same route eventually. For that probably means that I will stick with what I have because as much as I love it, it's not critical enough to my workflow for me to need to keep up with all of the new updates. Which frankly have been in the direction of animation anyway, rather than improving the 2d drawing aspects of the software or doing things like adding more Photoshop like functionality.

    • @JGVIllustrations
      @JGVIllustrations  3 года назад +2

      So interesting! Ugh I really hope they don’t fully go into a subscription...I don’t find it to be slower than Photoshop to be honest and I don’t agree that Photoshop has a “a TON of features” more than CSP, that is simply not true. Regardless, I made this video in the hopes of showing artists out there that Photoshop is not necessarily the default art program they have to go to, there are alternatives, especially if they are specifically illustrators--just another perspective. Yes, the 2D animation is definitely getting more and more developed, but I see them improving the drawing and comic-making features--like how they just released more text editing capabilities (so long overdue but wtv).
      Gosh I hope they don’t go full-subscription but a cynic might agree with you 😭 Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts.

      SAME! I really REALLY wish we could manipulate text on CSP. That’s the one reason I still have an old Photoshop program around. Hopefully they will get on that someday 👍

    bought CSP pro, but still not migrating from SAI lmao I'm watching this video, hoping one day I'll find the strength to leave my comfort zones.

      I hear ya! It can take a lot of energy and time to move softwares. Take your time and start with the easy stuff, like how to use one or two brushes on one layer. I wish you the best :)

    i knew about other softwares. It's the UI and the workspace I had trouble with. It's not until I could use Procreate with apple pencil that I finally was able to get rid of Photoshop. Now I'm free from Adobe product subscription even though I still have Photoshop CS6 to do texturing for my 3D mesh works.

      I'm sure Procreate helped a lot of artists break their reliance on Photoshop. I love Procreate. So is CSP on the iPad better than Procreate?
      I too still have CS6 too for any random adjustments I need to make that CSP can't. That's funny that you mention that, I'm glad I'm not the only one still using an old version. Especially if you're using it for 3D art.

      JGV Illustrations both Procreate and CSP are good. Nothing is better than the other. I make clip art in procreate and Procreate doesn’t have toolbar filling my ipad screen so i can concentrate. I actually don’t make comic often but when I do, it’s a simple one, short and funny (funny events that have happened in my family). For the 3D mesh work, I use photoshop to texture the UV-map. I’ve been working on my ipad a lot since 2018 and haven’t touched Photoshop and if I do, I use it to texture, which I can do in CS6 and in Affinity Photo. For vector work I use AI CS6 and Affinity Designer. I stopped my adobe CC sub in 2018 and I don’t regret it.

      JGV Illustrations PS: it’s been only 3 days that I’m learning CSP. I’m still very confused and it’s still difficult for me to grasp. But the nice UI of it intrigues me (hard to believe that I am able to put my effort to learn only because the UI looks nice).
