Dude, I leveled tailoring up to 10, got the best possible protection values I could ever get and still, on the very first attack I received, got bit on the neck....
Also if you have the diamond-neck sweater it'll provide neck protection. For some reason it's the only sweater/hoodie that does so. Always wear it for extra padding.
Overalls allows the most slots for protection, combined with long socks, long gloves, the white scarf(he wasn’t joking about it lol), military boots, bullet proof vest, and the denim shirt and long leather jacket(there’s 2 versions, short and long. Long has more slots). This makes you literally in killable for a few hits.
From what I've experienced, you don't need overalls, they don't provide enough, sure they provide some extra chest protection, but that's already at 100%... and I usually get attacked in the arms/legs, so...
@@kasper7574 protection stacks. By that I mean, the more items you have at 100% protection the higher your defence actually is. I think it would be cool if the metal working skill would allow you to make metal armour that basically makes you invincible but it’s heavy, makes your hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and actually does slow you down. Probably a mod for that though.
I could see it if you were in a group with a few other lighter folks to kill the stragglers as you in the armor make a path. Alone. Eventually you tire out or fall and get pancaked by a horde and eventually suffocated

3:36 The runic glyphs here decipher as follows: "if ZombRand(7) < player:getPerkLevel(Perks.Tailoring) + 1 then" Essentially the game will compare a randomly generated number from 0 to 7 with the player's Tailoring level plus one, every time a clothing item is torn. This means that there is a 1 in 8 chance at tailoring level 0 for the following code to transpire: "if nbrOfCoveredParts then" This is a bunch of complicated shit that basically makes the "max" variable larger more often the more clothing parts the clothing item covers. So no getting an equivalent amount of thread from socks and coveralls. "local thread=InventoryItemFactoryCreateItem("Base.Thread");" Creates a thread item with maximum durability. The for-end loop afterwards uses the thread in the same way a player would, a number of times between once and ten times MINUS the max variable determined earlier. So the bigger "max" is, the less thread it uses, leaving you with more thread. Anyway there's essentially a 1 in 8 (12.5%) chance to get thread from a clothing item at tailoring level 0. At level 3 your chance is 50%. And at level 7, you always get thread.

7:06 I will prove you wrong, 2 year old video that almost certainly has differences from the version that I'm playing! Since layering is so important for getting good defenses with tailoring, I've found that I try to go with clothing that has less insulation. That matters less in the depths of winter, but matters a lot when you're in any other season. With that in mind, here's some stuff that I've found useful: - Long socks: Already mentioned in another comment, but they cover your shins as well. - Apron: Can be worn with most everything and covers the torso and thighs (but not groin???). No insulation, as well. - Black Leather Trousers: More protection than camo pants, but also more insulation. Luckily, having too-hot legs doesn't seem to affect your overheating as much as too-hot torso. - Hawaiian Shirt: Uses it's own slot. Covers your torso. Not that important if you're using the bulletproof vest, but I find those to be too heavy and insulating for general use. - Hockey Helmet: 100% non-bullet head protection with basically no insulation. Good for the summer! - Medical Coat: Same coverage as the long leather jacket but way less insulation. Also good for summer!

Threads have capacity, you always use a thread while patching, it's just certain ammount of it's capacity. You can view it by clicking the small arrow on a thread stack to see all of them. Previously you had to click each individual thread and click "add to" another individual thread and do it all manually which was really annoying when you had a bunch of em. Yup, but the welding mask is arguably easier to find. In my own experience I've found them more consistently than I've found motorcycle helmets, so whichever you find first is likely going to do you very well until you find the better one.
Holy shit man just discovered your videos and they are so goddamn good! I was surprised to see that you only have 5k Subs man, youre gonna blow up big soon!
2:50 it actually gives you a bunch of small bits of thread so if you added them all together for the amount of ripped sheets you have that's probably more like 3-4 full threads
Motorcycle helmet isn't the best head gear, I'd argue hard hats because they're extremely common, provide 100% head protection, and doesn't reduce combat speed at all.
Over the course of me playing Pz I always maxed my tailoring since it was my favorite Here's a set you should look out for. Leather gloves ( Hand protection ) Military boots ( Feet protection, Desert if you want lower insulation ) Leather jacket ( Must be thigh variant ) Denim shirt ( Only shirt that provides protection ) Long socks ( Shin protection. ) Apron ( Provides thigh, torso protection ) / Vest ( Good early game, chuck away late ) Overalls ( Also provides torso compared to regular denim shorts ) / Skinny leather jeans ( Firefighter pants but tailorable, is extremely hard to find, mostly found in survivor homes, rarely in clothing stores.) As this video is 2 years old, I'm not going to search through all the comments if this has been said before - the choice of fabric is essential for patching holes. At level 8 tailoring, if you try to fix a hole in a leather jacket with sheets or denim, you're only going to apply a fix for minimal protection. If you patch it with leather strips, it will repair the hole and allow you to add additional patches. If you have multiple fabrics and are not sure which one to use, just hover over the option, the correct material will say something like "full functionality will be restored". Also, a sewing kit will easily hold a needle, 5 thread and around 30 of each fabric. You don't need to take them out every time, just moving the kit to your main inventory will allow you to perform the action.
@7:07 An axe or katana are better because the best defense is offence. 😉 You asked for it. 😛 There is an armored vest available in the mod section that offers 100/100/100 values for scratch bite and bullet - Armored Vest (41). It is technically in the game. 👍 @9:57 That is why the best defense is offence. Unless you like grinding like crazy. There are benefits to both. @10:00 There are plenty of examples on RUclips who do and it makes tailoring actually worthwile.
Also fun fact, if you hold a weapon that you have some weapon levels for, you have a bigger chance to shove away a zombie if they bite through your defense. Aka you get more defense by leveling up your offense.
Tailoring is very strong, it's just a shame that it is so tedious to level up. Typically I will add leather patches to whatever clothes I'm using at the time for a small defense bonus, but don't try to actively level the skill by sewing ripped sheets to random clothes.
swat vest the same as police vest? firefighter/police/bike club jacket vs leather jacket? thought firefighter pants were the best in game? rain boots or regular boots vs military boots?
Far as I remember, police vest is top of the list and more common. Just the leather jacket Firefighter pants are the best base stat-wise, but padding the pants I mentioned puts them a tick above firefighter pants. Military Boots for sure! Hope this helped :D

Leather pants are better than Camo but are really rare and pretty much look almost identical to just regular black pants so they are hard to spot on a random zombie to know you need to target them with a blunt weapon and not a blade.
There is a sandbox mode for making things a bit faster, but I definitely agree they gotta flesh out the systems a bit more. And I think they will with time, just gotta be patient
The 11 thread isn’t even 11 thread as they only have a tiny bit on each .. if you have the mod that consolidates it all you’ll be lucky to get one full thread.
So if you patch a hole in jeans or a denim shirt, it doesn't go back to 10% bite, 20% scratch reduction? Seems like you only get a fraction of its previous defense
You can only _fully patch_ a hole at level 8, using the right materials it will repair it fully (i.e bring the protection back to the original level) The chance to drop thread when ripping clothes is 10% per tailoring level iirc The amount of defense for a leather patch goes as follows (from level 1 up to level 10): 1%/2%/1% 2%/4%/2% 3%/6%/3% 4%/8%/4% 5%/10%/5% 6%/12%/6% 7%/14%/7% 8%/16%/8% 9%/18%/9% 10%/20%/10%
what if you're like me and pick 'Thin skinned' for extra points? most the time you're supposed to avoid being bitten (but everyone slips up... or runs through a tree and cuts their face lol)

i definitely don't have any tile mods, so my best bet without looking in to it is: a vanilla bug, car spawns, or extra helicopter events. if i can get coordinates for a spot that has this bug i'm willing to test it, but i've only seen it once. i think in Riverside that's where i usually spawn... but not because i'm bad at the game or anyrhing.
@@zionxiox1475 a fellow Riverside enjoyer, love to see it. I don't have coordinates for it, but I'm fine leaving it as is. One day I'll do a fresh reinstall and maybe that will fix it :')
I think you do use thread every time you patch something now but the thread comes in rolls just like tape even if you only have one roll of tape you can still fix something that costs 2 duct tape
Tailoring seems to be a bit of a slow effort. Hmm what if we could find sewing machines? In my house, we have the old electric ones, and the super old pedal power stand for a manual sewing machine, just need the top bit It would make sense, albeit I could see myself ignoring it for a long time besides dismantling to improve my mechanic skill
I pick up clean socks like I pick up digital watches. With sewing as a hobby. Until I can repair the clothes and reinforce the lower layers with leather. I don't focus on that, so it may take about a month to reach lvl 8. I don't think it's worth reinforcing to the max since the hands won't exceed 25% defense against bites. I hope they will fix the appearance of patched clothing because as it stands it is very ugly.

As this video is 2 years old, I'm not going to search through all the comments if this has been said before - the choice of fabric is essential for patching holes.
40hrs on a co-op server and have yet to find a single needle.
drip or drown, fella
ONG 🙏🙏🙏
LMAO MY NAME IS DUSTIN AND THAT SCARED THE FUCK OUT OF ME
Sorry, gotta keep you on your toes
Yeah lvl 8 tailoring and thick skin trait and the best clothing with leather patches saved me from definit bites more than 10 times
Good stuff, good stuff 👌
I feel called out with the monster Musume comment
:^)
Overalls instead of pants and apron instead of bulletproof vest and it's perfect
Long socks gives some shin protection too, if you patch them.
@7:07 An axe or katana are better because the best defense is offence. 😉 You asked for it. 😛 There is an armored vest available in the mod section that offers 100/100/100 values for scratch bite and bullet - Armored Vest (41). It is technically in the game. 👍
@9:57 That is why the best defense is offence.
1:40 is comedy gold never subscribed faster
Tailoring is very strong, it's just a shame that it is so tedious to level up. Typically I will add leather patches to whatever clothes I'm using at the time for a small defense bonus, but don't try to actively level the skill by sewing ripped sheets to random clothes.
Fair play, man. It is obnoxiously tedious to grind :')
@@Mattsi You're aware that starting with level 1 tailoring gives 4x experience? Level 0 is considered 25%, so the +75% bonus is actually 4x.
swat vest the same as police vest? firefighter/police/bike club jacket vs leather jacket? thought firefighter pants were the best in game? rain boots or regular boots vs military boots?
Far as I remember, police vest is top of the list and more common.
Just the leather jacket
Firefighter pants are the best base stat-wise, but padding the pants I mentioned puts them a tick above firefighter pants.
Military Boots for sure!
Hope this helped :D
@@Mattsi ty sir! We need more videos like this. People usually only talk about 1 item. We know the freezer with 'ice' on it is best, but what about ovens? Or other freezers? Are big metal cabinets you find in schools better or worse than big lockers? Etc. Not enough about those things.
@@tooslow4065 A sort of tier list and giving alternatives, I can maybe do that 🤔
@@Mattsi especially for base building. The best containers, fhe best cooking items, the best way to level cooking. Already seen videos of the best vehicles for storage and speed.
Apron, overalls, long johns. Keep them
Leather pants are better than Camo but are really rare and pretty much look almost identical to just regular black pants so they are hard to spot on a random zombie to know you need to target them with a blunt weapon and not a blade.
All the Dustin at 1:58 😐☹
;D
Recently tried leveling tailoring bust could not find overalls, however a bathrobe works all the same with many spots for patches and padding.
They really gotta either add better ways to increase some of these skills or make it take waaaay less time to do it
There is a sandbox mode for making things a bit faster, but I definitely agree they gotta flesh out the systems a bit more.
I believe it scales with your level, p sure it caps around level 8
You can only _fully patch_ a hole at level 8, using the right materials it will repair it fully (i.e bring the protection back to the original level)
The chance to drop thread when ripping clothes is 10% per tailoring level iirc
The amount of defense for a leather patch goes as follows (from level 1 up to level 10): 1%/2%/1% 2%/4%/2% 3%/6%/3% 4%/8%/4% 5%/10%/5% 6%/12%/6% 7%/14%/7% 8%/16%/8% 9%/18%/9% 10%/20%/10%
@@Mattsi there's also a little mod called auto-tailoring which makes the tailoring training far less cringy
@@shivamib okay, you have my interest. Adding that to my list for sure
I think it's weird there's a motorcycle helmet but no motorcycles in the game.
That are they hiding 👀
I don't like grinding so I turn xp gains up and use tailoring mods like crafting thread and auto tailor
Crafting needle too
what if you're like me and pick 'Thin skinned' for extra points? most the time you're supposed to avoid being bitten (but everyone slips up... or runs through a tree and cuts their face lol)
You can wear an Apron over basically everything
That's kinda saucy
Thanks for the knowledge! 🧟♀️🧟♂️🧟♂️
Anyway, for some weird reason, this reminded me about the fallout 76 pre-order bag 🤣
Oh no. I'm so sorry 😞
"accept for winter but lets be real no one survives that long"
lol why you gotta call me out XD I'm lucky if I survive to September :,)
I'm lucky to survive two months :')
But that relies on me being lucky enough to play for more than a day or two
The Backyard Scientist's gaming channel?
Whomst?
I'm gonna have to look into this imposter :^)
"DUSTIN"?!
All of them, every Dustin
it is such a grind to get thread😭
Instead of metal I would just try and get ahold of some strong plastic and glue that crap to an outfit lol. Lighter weight and way easier to do unless you're a welder
If I already have 100% in a body part, adding more layers of something will work at all?
Nah, it caps at 100% afaik
that OSRS xp drop mod lmao
i saw those question marks in my game today. i don't know why.
I have them in a couple places and I just kinda deal with them for now. I really don't know either
If the game can't find the tile ID or load the tile definition (something like that) it gives this tile.
@@AutisticWombot thank you for answering this for us. Do you happen to know how to fix it? :0
i definitely don't have any tile mods, so my best bet without looking in to it is: a vanilla bug, car spawns, or extra helicopter events. if i can get coordinates for a spot that has this bug i'm willing to test it, but i've only seen it once. i think in Riverside that's where i usually spawn... but not because i'm bad at the game or anyrhing.
@@zionxiox1475 a fellow Riverside enjoyer, love to see it.
I don't have coordinates for it, but I'm fine leaving it as is. One day I'll do a fresh reinstall and maybe that will fix it :')
What mod is the Unit-01 Plugsuit?
Pretty sure it was straight up called "Shinji Ikari"
I think you do use thread every time you patch something now but the thread comes in rolls just like tape even if you only have one roll of tape you can still fix something that costs 2 duct tape
rhadamant says you are wrong about the desert camo pants, that skinny leather pants are better?
I don't agree, but I'm sure there's not much difference between the two. Up to your preference on drip or protection, both are valid
Your character looks like Matt Walsh
I... I mean... You're not wrong, but... Thank you?
Hey, love the video!
What is that mod that shows the progress of skill at the top of right corner?
Thank you, Leo!
It's the OSRS XP Drops Mod, very handy :D
Tailoring seems to be a bit of a slow effort. Hmm what if we could find sewing machines? In my house, we have the old electric ones, and the super old pedal power stand for a manual sewing machine, just need the top bit
It would make sense, albeit I could see myself ignoring it for a long time besides dismantling to improve my mechanic skill
That is a pretty good idea, wonder if they'll ever implement something like that
Yes
Thank you
doesn't matter at all to me I pick up a random bite everytime regardless of gear
I didn't know Matt Walsh played Project Zomboid.
1:28 Tried ripping there Bras did not work even with scissors.
Dude got me haha! (Still wished it was a feature though)
I can't believe it worked
@@Mattsi XD
Where’s Eva 01 mod
I gotta get that commissioned, make it a vehicle. Hopefully an actual to-scale mech 🤔🤔🤔
While I do see value in having unbiteable clothing, I have to ask you something.
Why would I wear armor, if I don't plan on getting hit?
You will get hit
@@Mattsi true, everyone does, eventually. Chances are, I will die from that one scratch, and learn a valuable lesson: don't get hit. Next time, I'll try harder to not get hit
well I heard that survival is the intended difficulty so I have been playing on hard :/
subbing cos you know who crush40 are
I may be cringe, but at least I am all of me
@@Mattsi you aight
I don't think you were welcomed at the school because your character looks like Matt Walsh.
there are leather jackets that are longer and cover up to the crotch, not that stylish tho
Admittedly I value drip over protection :^)
You sound like Jesse Eisenberg.
... I... That's a new one, I usually get Michael Cera
don't aprons factor into this? did I miss that section?
Aprons didn't come up in my research, but there's a huge chance that changed since I made the video :')
@@Mattsi oh, right on. Yeah, I think they have a lot of slots for padding, and I think they go on top of all that other gear you mentioned; I think, I'm no pro at this game
