A thousand times thank you for sharing this authentic recipe from your country with us! I’ve been curious to try okra stew for a while, and today I finally had all the ingredients to make it (with some adaptations, like with sheep meat instead of goat). And thanks to your easy to follow instructions it turned out very delicious! I had it with some fufu, which was very good, but I guess it would also be great with plain basmati rice… anyhow, thank you again for sharing this traditional recipe with us, thanks to you can a person like me from all the way in the Netherlands enjoy it too. You’re a delight, bless you!

Forget baking soda. Personally, I'm very much a traditionalist when it comes to west African food. Too many western add one tends to take away the original taste that our ancestors enjoyed.
Try to follow the traditional recipes as much as you can. To get it slimy simply cut the okra into tiny slices, dicing it occasionally. Okra soup (especially with ogbono) is my favourite food, bar none! I was weaned on it!

Okra is such a viable and holistic plant but cooking with it is so off putting. It's so slimy. I can handle it fried, even cooked with tomatoes but any other way, I pass. Looks delicious until you spoon it 😳

The slime comes from washing it then cutting it. What you do is wash it then dry it individually then you can leave it whole or cut it up. And make sure the dish you're cooking with has some lemon squeezed into it. It helps it to not be slimy.

This soup looks so delicious! I love okra too but not too fond of it when it's blended. I usually cut it half when we use it in our recipes. This okra stew looks so yummy though!❤❤❤
