UPDATE Howard County police have confirmed as of March 23rd 2018, that they have found the remains of David Gipson Smith. There is no cause/time of death that gives any answers as to what happened. Please keep his family in your thoughts.
thank you for updating despite being stressed and depressed from these cases. you're extremely respectful and eloquent, thank you for your caring and gentle nature, and stressing privacy of the family.
GOD BLESS ALL HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS, MAY HE NOW REST IN PEACE. MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH EVERYONE WHO KNEW HIM, TIL THEY MEET AGAIN. G.B.N.F !!!!
i went to rehab with David and he was my roommate. He was a really nice guy. He had been through a lot. So sad. I wish his family could get some type of resolution.
Did the rehab have doctors or was it just one of those money grab places kind of like a jail with 3 hot meals and a cot to sweat and vomit it out on or was it more like a hospital with doctors giving meds and taking vitals morning noon and night?
Being a recovering addict, I believe it was an od and they panicked and came up with a story probably with family. If he left on his own he would have sold his car.
My son went to treatment with David down in Pompano Beach Florida...they were like brothers there...from what my son tells me he says David was a wonderful guy...he had great loving parents whom he was close with...there is no way he would run away..none...unfortunately relapse is possible as most addicts experience it...and I'm sure he did just that..relapse...probably not wanting to hear the lectures and disappointment from his parents I'm sure he hid it from them....please please please do not dimiss this case because he most likely was struggling with an addiction. He was special guy and loved. He touched many people who are hurting and missing him....drugs or not he is still a human being....my guess was he OD or a deal that went wrong...but his family and friends deserve to know what happened so they can be at peace. His parents are living a nightmare each day not knowing....please pray for David and his family.
As a former addict I have to comment. After doing drugs for 5-6 years I had gotten arrested and done 6 months in jail. I obviously got clean and came home to live with family upon being released. I was under someones watchful eye 24/7. Once I got a job and saved up I finally got a car and had this insane urge to get back into the drug world. I can imagine with him having a job and getting a vehicle he may be "itching" to get out and get high a time or two since he no longer had to rely on his parents for a ride. That being said, someone just jumping back into the drug world would NOT be desperate enough to stay on a strangers property with no car or supplies. At that point there was nothing stopping him from going back to his parents! He could have simply kept on track with his lie about his new co-worker roommate and told them they got in an argument and he left and came back home. It wasn't like he burned a bridge with his parents and could never go back home. And from a former junkies view point, you would never agree to stay out on that property with nothing unless you were in the worst part of your addiction. When I first started messing with drugs after getting clean i could have turned to any family member because i still had them fooled. I was homeless living in a car in an abandoned field at one point but that came like 5 yrs into my addiction when I was at my lowest. I just do not think he would ever agree to being left out there without his car or supplies! Ok now that I've written a damn book I'm done lol!#
I'm also a recovering addict and I totally agree with everything you said. Its hard to fully explain to someone unless they had a former addiction because there a so many small little things that are common in all of us. He never would of been that desperate that quick after 9 months of sobriety. He wouldnt of stayed on a property without his car, his personal property and a way to get out. As an addict, we know to never fully rely/trust ANYONE, especially not another addict AND a stranger at that. And that to me says it all. I also had a HUGE urge to go back to the street after I got a little bit of my life put back together & got my first big paycheck...Every addict knows when you relapse, you have a little while before people start catching on. Plus he had a vehicle and could of went back to his parents, friends or co-workers house at any time- if what this girl is saying would of been the truth. Maybe he was struggling more than anyone realized, maybe he wanted to use but didn't want anyone finding out so he decided to contact these girls he met in rehab to see if they were still using (which I have personally done before)...maybe he went due to an impulsive decision and a promise of sex or a party and later accidentally overdosed. I could list a million theories but I think the one that speaks to me the most is an accidential overdose and cover up. The only other big theory would be a murder- but why would they murder him? There would be no motive. But i personally know MANY MANY people that have covered up overdoses and even to an extreme level.
@@bethanyross4363 That is what I believe happened. So many people OD on their first use after being clean for a time. The prosecuting attorney of my city said that he would prosecute anyone on manslaughter charges that ever gave anyone money, gave them a ride, or helped them in any way obtain or do drugs that led to their overdose. That led to SO many bodies being dumped and nobody ever calling 911 to help resuscitate. When called out by this the prosecuting attorney said that "he'd never thought about" [the deaths that it would cause] but it "wasn't [his] problem." He exists just to prosecute drug users or enablers to the fullest extent of the law. Luckily after public outcry they passed a state law that allows you to call 911 (but you can still get charged with felony possession unless it's a tiny amount of weed.)
I agree. As a recovering addict, and I had a very low bottom, I would never stay out there unless drugs were promised, so I bet the uncle was a dealer or she promised to go pick up drugs nearby and come back. Once you make your mind up to relapse, NOTHING is going to stop you. I know I have done desperate stuff. One time, my ex boyfriend said he was giving me extasy for 3 days but it ended up being meth. I found out at a 7-11 and asked the cashier if he knew who I could call for a ride from Boulder to Denver. The cashier called these 2 meth addicts who were giddy to get $100 for the 30 min ride. I was scared as shit on that ride. I thought I was getting away from a methhead and getting safe, and really, that couple had no teeth, little hair, and silly grins. That was like a normal thing. Weird circumstances. One time I went home to Indiana after a concert. Again, lucky I was safe and the boy's mom was nice. I would be so sad if anyone gave up on any missing person for drug use. It's so freaking common now, how can ANYONE judge? What if this was YOUR brother/son/boyfriend?
Totally agree with all of these comments ODing after a first time relapse is so very common because most people will do a larger amount like they were use to doing before quitting and (obviously depending on how long a person has been clean) don't think about the fact that your tolerance isn't that high anymore and end up dying because their body can't handle that large amount, but when your so use to using a specific dose and are in the mindset of relapse it's not usually thought about all that much. So glad you all are here to tell your story and I know I'm just a random stranger on the Internet but I'm so proud of all of you over coming your addictions and allowing yourself a better life
Danelle Hallan can't get this case out of my head after all this time since you uploaded this, what if he was at up for uncle or someone else to take care of, it's just bizarre! No trace, 😱😰
Danelle Hallan he may have been totally catfished here in a sinister way....it's frustrating me!!! I've seen your recent update but still makes no sense, when is any trace of him?!?! X
i live close by where this happened and i never even heard about this! crazy how many people go missing and it’s not covered by any mainstream media. you’re so good at doing these videos!
Mary O'Brien I live in EC too!!!! I grew up here. I don't remember hearing much about this either but I think there was something on Baltimore news about it
Colleen Ebbe it’s insane how this just happened a few months ago and there isn’t more coverage on it! they definitely need to use airtime to focus on stories like these.
Hi Danielle....thank you for doing a video on David's case. We are very appreciative that you chose to do this story. I would love to speak with you to update the case but just a few notes after recently rewatching your video. Regards
Julie, I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss. I felt a huge connection to David just by watching this video. I did do some research on any updates. I really hope that you were able to find out what caused David’s death. I’m so curious to know why he ended up in a State Park. I read that vanished podcast covered David story. Maybe you were able to get in touch with them and I can listen to that. I obviously didn’t know him and I can’t explain why… I just felt a strong tie to him. I’ve had struggles with substance abuse in the past and that does NOT make David, myself or any other person any less than. He deserves the same respect from law enforcement as anyone else! I really hope you got answers or maybe even justice. RIP David 😢
UPDATE: His body was found Feb 25th 2018 in Green Ridge State Forest in MD by hikers. May he RIP and I hope his family can heal during this tragic time.💜
Thank you I was always wondering. I’m going through cases I have questions about for CrimeCon 2023. David always stuck in my mind. I hope they get justice if there was foul play.
I'm sincerely feeling they went to the Uncles prop together, in her car, to have a private place to do drugs together...he may certainly have overdosed and then she freaks out and calls her Uncle to help from there! Which explains evidence of someone being there. Her story is such BS that i can't help but feel she was a part of what happened to him, hence making up such an ABSURD story... Bless that poor family!
I never knew I liked missing persons cases until I watched your videos. Your explanations are just so thorough and you're so level headed it's fantastic!
i never see why an issue either an addiction or a mental problem should affect peoples point of view on missing people, i understand that people do lie about this kind of stuff but if there isn't any evidence point towards that then i don't see how it should affect the case, also great insight. Makes me love your video!!
I’m a recovering heroin addict and I’ve been clean for 5 years. I hope to god that if something was to happen to me they would not judge working my case based on my past heroin use! That’s really sucks that people do that! We are people also and deserve justice just like anyone else!
The girls cooperating doesn’t really say much to me. In the skylar neese case her murders helped search and sat with her Mom and dad. They all cried and grieved together.
Wynonna Privett the Skylar Neese case breaks my heart. I can’t imagine the devastation her Family feels. The “slender man” case also really blew me away. It’s a scary world 😢
It could be possible that he didn't have enough money for a hotel because he had spent the money on heroin. So sad. It bothers me that because he was a recovering addict it became less of a priority to search for him, they automatically assume he had done something that led to his death and not foul play. It is very possible he overdosed and she got scared and didn't know what to do so she hid his body or had help covering herself...which if that's the case you have to be incredibly selfish.
honestly in my opinion i think the lady from ellicot killed him. i think it was a drug situation gone bad, i think when she left & came back on wednesday, she left to hide his body, or take him somewhere to get him killed. If it wasn't her, she at least knows what happened to him, they are just too sketchy.
But my question is: if he said he was moving in with a coworker, that means he wasn't planning on coming back to his parents house even after this week he'd spent with these girls, so where was he planning to live for real afterwards? I think it's something they should look into, doesnt he have friends that he would be honest about all of this? Honestly poor family it's all really messed up
I check the missing: David Gibson Smith page every day for updates and there hasn't been any updates in a while. On Julie's facebook page she made a comment about it being time that the two women have a heart and tell what happened to David. I just wish we could know what happened and I wish they had a private investigator. They might have gotten one as the updated flyer has the name of an individual but I worry why there is not any update given since I think 11 days ago. So frustrating not knowing what happened. I agree with you that someone of his friends has to know what he was really doing. His co-workers said that he told them he would be there on Tuesday or something.
I believe he really was planning to move in with a coworker eventually. I believe this weekend he just told his parents he was taking a few things over there and hanging out for the weekend. His parents fully expected him back home after the weekend. There are two episodes on the Lordanarts RUclips channel about this case. Also on The Vanished podcast. Both have interviews with his parents.
My theory is that he did plan on moving out but he didn’t have the full means yet so he arranged to stay with this girl for a week until he found a place or roommate. He was 28 so it could have just been getting to him that he still lived at home so he decided what would be best for him would be to move out even if he didn’t have the means fully yet. Also it's a very flimsy story to make up if he planned to runaway or go on a bender that would be the first place they would go after not hearing from him and would have learned it was a lie instantly, and immediately would have started looking for him and gotten police involved. But If he did plan on moving out for real and was just staying with someone for a week the lie works as his parents would be none the wiser for the time being while he found a permanent place.
Never clicked so fast when I saw you uploaded. Just as the family were sitting down to watch a movie... Tough shit they have to wait till I've watched this haha
I am so confused by this case...what the hell was that girl thinking leaving him at empty land...was there shelter...I hope so... This is a sad case, hopeful he'll be found and able to come home in the future or we at least find out what happened. Family deserves closure...
Danelle Hallan ohhh im just wondering what the hell that girl was thinking? Thats the most confusing part of the case she basically left him in a field...
Thank you for making this video. This is my friends cousin. Btw I love how professional you speak, always saying “this is just speculation” and not making people think it may be fact. Very easy to follow the story even though it’s a confusing story you deliver it nicely.
I think David was killed in the first house and the rest of the story is all made up. I don't know what happened; maybe a drug deal gone wrong. Such a sad story and this happens too much. A man with a drug problem is completely written off and forgotten about. Terrible
Courtney Kolenda Outta Curiosity, why do you think it was the first house? Makes since, but just curious how ya came to that decision. Like your theory! It’s a good one
killed in the house where the new acquaintance lived with her parents? and the girl just left his car outside the house? that doesnt make much sense. and he never ended up going to his friends place, the original place, so that doesnt make much sense either.
Ah heroin. People don't eat when on heroin. If he's been sober/clean for 9 months, his tolerance level is low. He may have od, god forbid. Sometimes rapid success drags people back to their private hell. Druggies and prostitutes are last to be searched on police list unless it's a serial killer situation. That woman who last saw him definitely knows something. ***Can you look into strange National Park disappearances? Thanks for posting fascinating videos.
Solarius heroin/opiates are HUGE in that area. Two of my cousins live in/by Catonsville and Ellicot City (both of which she repeatedly pronounces wrong lol) and I immediately thought he went there to do drugs, od'd and the chick panicked.
but where did the body go? They could of at least dropped him off somewhere for the family to have closure. As someone who was an addict, you don't care about eating/ drinking but you still need to and honestly if he was shooting he needs water to shoot up at least....
Nancy N. Yes but sadly the police are overreacting in the worse way to ODs by prosecuting people who use together if one ODs . One case locally there were 2 sisters and a friend who used together and one of the sisters died and the family (from an affluent family and area) and pushed for the friend (but not the other sister) to get charged and she got 22 years in prison. This is sickening. That just deters people completely from calling for help. I have 18 months clean and multiple times I ODed in abandoned homes in the city or on the corner and thank god people called bc within 5-10 min your brain dead. I’ve lost my brother, cousin, best friend, ex boyfriend, and countless friends and acquaintances. Prosecuting people is disgusting when they put nothing towards treatment that’s proven to work, like methadone (which saved my life) or suboxone. They just wanna get re-elected and consider it a moral failure people can pray away with self control. We don’t treat type 2 diabetes that way when people continue overeating.
You should look into the Danielle Stislicki case, out of Farmington Hills, Michigan. Disappeared 12/2/16, left work early, was to meet a friend that evening and work the next morning. Never showed - not like her. Person of interest was/is a former security guard who worked in her building and used to pay a lot of attention to her. They must not have enough evidence to charge him yet, though they’ve raided his home more than once, taking cars and floorboards! To make the story crazier, the security guard is in police custody for an attempted rape that happened 2.5 months prior to Danielle’s disappearance. It went unsolved until April/June 2017, when law enforcement saw some similarities in the police sketch from this victim, and the security guard. DNA evidence suggests that this similarity was not just coincidence. There are more crazy things about the case. The security guard’s wife was being treated for cancer the night DS went missing, the SG’s sister in law called him out publicly, believing his guilt, even though her sister (his wife) and the rest of their family wanted to protect him... etc. this story is nuts! They’re still looking for her body (they believe she is dead) and would probably love more awareness!!
hollynr77 not sure, although I’ve really wanted to hear someone talk about this case, in a video. I thought they wouldn’t because it’s so recent, but this case Danelle did for this video is only a few months old, so I thought it would be worth an ask ;)
I just watched this and found an updated article saying that his body was found in the woods in Maryland and his time of death and cause are undetermined. :’(
From a recovering IV heroin user, the whole situation SCREAMS the disease of addiction and support that he overdosed 100%. I have also been pronounced dead and then on life support for 2 days from using too much the first time from clean time, and the same goes for it was his first time ever (in regards to his mom saying that wasn't his drug of choice.) and this is a little bold on my part, but it might have been an intentional overdose with the pressure and the internal issues you have to deal with after getting clean, and the girls were involved on a ransom. But that ones pushing it. ALL signs point to an accidental overdose. When someone decides they want to get high, it will stop at nothing until that has been achieved.
Jenna Pratz HEY recovering addict as well. Almost 4 years! My theory, that boy was so addicted to heroin before.. He took a long break and went to use once again with a user... (I myself am a former user as I mentioned) he likely overdosed somewhere and these girls felt responsible. Maybe the uncle got rid of him. (Myself being a girl, never found heroin without help of a male)...... its a fact for me. If you dont use heroin for weeks, months, or years at a time then do try again.. Most users think they can handle what they were used to. Not the case. Overdose. Dead.
I'm sorry about your husband! But I'm glad your back. We mommy's need our me time. I couldn't imagine being on RUclips that's hard work. Glad you're feeling better. Ready for the videos! 😁
michelleharasty right?! You know that feeling of “I know them, I’ve definitely seen that face” but have no idea if you actually have. It’s crazy. I’ve been searching every social media I have trying to see if he’s anywhere on them.
My older sister is a heroin addict and the first time she disappeared we all freaked out. We didn’t see or hear from her for a whole year one time until she went to jail. My sister is married and has a child but she still chose drugs over everything so I do think it’s possible that he just left on his own accord. Addiction is a monster.
I totally agree girl. Sometimes when addiction is present there is no rhyme or reason why they do stuff. They just do what they have to do at the time to get them the high they are looking for.
I agree too. My sibling left for weeks and never called. It was so unlike her. She lived in a rental car. Sometimes people are too ashamed to call home and he might know it's turned into this big case and is scared or withdrawing. It's not so strange to drive hours to use. What I find weird is that this girl had his keys and didn't report it. I guess he could have forgotten she had them if he was on a bender, but that seems strange.
Whenever people are on drugs they do a lot of weird things. Like if I were going to meet up with someone and they said “oh you can stay at my friends house instead of mine” I would turn around and go home. I don’t think I would just stay at some random person’s house. But he probably is afraid of all the coverage.
Sorry, hope your sister finds peace without the need for drugs. Addiction is a bitch, it has the power to totally consume a person. Drugs, people don't touch it, don't even go close to it, it's not your friend, it will drain your life and you will be powerless to stop. It's not a life, you might as well be dead because only then it can no longer hurt you.
I really wish drug abuse wasn't so taboo. These people clearly need help. Yes, they're idiots for doing drugs but we all make mistakes. Thousands are dying and no one cares
Breanne Dixon you are beautiful. More people like you and our lovely u tuber right here., the stigma of being an addict will be seen differently. Addiction is a disease. Like diabetes. most normal people think it's a choice. So kudos for you knowing what's up. David has the right to be looked for same as anyone else. Even if he relapsed. 80% do right out of rehab. You can be clean for two days and OD. I think those girls are gonna crack. It's just a matter of time. Sorry for long post.😁
Drug addiction is a sign of another problem. Most people who do hard drugs are trying to numb themselves for some reason. I wish more people were like you and cared about addicts. There is no way he is on a 6 month binge IMO
M Hollman yup, doctors used to give out opiates like candy. When the government cracked down on it without any help for the addicts. A lot just turn to H because it was cheaper and easier than going through withdraw.
1. Your makeup is actually giving me life 💁🏾 2. Thank you for doing these videos. I feel like it's important to be educated about these missing people and these murders that happen, but I'm way too chicken shit to research on my own😅Keep up the good work!!
I'm glad u had a break but I'm so glad u r back. When I watch things about missing ppl and the tone changes when they have mental health issues, drug dependency or are sex workers it makes me sad. They are still ppl they are still loved and need to be found. Almost everyone has a vice like food, alcohol, drugs, gambling and if he does have a drug problem he needs help not judgement. I totally think these women are sketchy the story makes no sense at all. I hope he is found safe and he clearly has a family who love him.
do you think it’s possible that you can look into the John/Joyce Sheridan case? this actually happened 3 houses down from my own and it really shook up the neighborhood. cause of death was changed multiple times, it’s quite confusing. i would love to see some other thoughts about this! xx
In my country (Serbia,Balkan) is very late at night right now,but i'we been waiting for you to post a video. So thank you, after watching ,I can finally go to sleep 😁
I’m genuinely very confused because I am from Pilesgrove NJ and I never really heard ANYTHING on this case. I have always been very into true crime and have researched cases, for many years but I have never seen anything about him on the news, I never even saw missing posters for him around town. Thank you for covering this case to help get his name out and his case and thank you for the update as well💓
Looking gorgeous as always, I love that choker with the hoodie and the candle looks so pretty in the background! He's so handsome, hope he is safe somewhere. Sounds pretty criminal that that girl drove him out to somewhere he was familiar where there was no shelter with no food and water for DAYS - he could have died from that alone! What is wrong with her? She basically left him to die.
You should do a video on Paul Heiner Swenson. He went missing in Utah and they found his body a month later but it is still SO bizarre. He has a beautiful wife who is a pretty well known blogger and tiny baby. A month before he went missing his wife wrote a blog post called “monsters are real” that hints at an affair. It is a fascinating case.
OAH2011 you’re right. I just watched the live stream and she did say she wouldn’t do it. It’s a shame because it is probably the most fascinating case I have ever researched.
I love how respectful and caring you are towards David and his family. It's honestly a shame some people no longer think it's important to find him once they discover his history with drugs. Thank you for this video! I love your channel!
The Susan Powell videos she recorded of herself at home when she was showing everything she owned that he had purchased using her name and credit... It's so haunting. She should have taken the kids and gotten out then instead of filming her belongings. Now those boys are dead and so is she. What an evil man he was,!!! Those home films can be viewed on RUclips.
Excellent reporting and analysis on this case. Thank you for covering it. Lots of speculation and the accounts from the women don't add up, and good on you for pointing that out. Thank you again.
I unfortunately am inclined to believe he planned this and ran away. I have a family member who had a drug problem, and even with the best support system, a relapse can happen. I think he just didn't want to disappoint his parents. I hope and pray, they find him!
I kind of agree. My brother is a drug addict and I can see him running away, mostly because he has before. But it is scary to wake up and not know where that person is. I’ve been there. I hope they can find him or at least get some closure. Such a heartbreaking story.
So I think I posted a comment before about an 18 year old who went missing and was last seen at the college I went too. I believe it’s been a month or two and they still have not found him. He essentially disappeared without a trace. They even looked in nyc because they thought he might have went there. His name is Nick Practico. If they have any evidence, they haven’t release any yet. But with this story maybe the Uncle accidentally saw him and killed him. Or maybe he decided to try and walk away since the girl didn’t come back for 3 days. But when he walked away he could’ve gotten lost.
I love the compassion, empathy & dignity that you show towards the victims whose stories you cover. You're great at this! I!m also so excited to see your channel growing so quickly. Keep up the great work bc you have a natural talent for what you're doing!
Thanks for making videos, I appreciate all the effort you put into them. I’m currently dealing with severe health issues that have me traveling all over the state to different doctors and frequent hospital visits... and when I see one of your uploads in my feed it makes my day a little brighter. Thanks Danelle so much for your true story mystery/crime/murder/missing videos, and for just being a genuinely sweet human that cares about her subscribers. 😊❤️
Just found you today and binge watching. Im obsessed with these kinds of stories. You are absolutely incredibly intelligent and the way you bring the information to life. I am so impressed. I was leaning towards the overdose but this one is confusing. Im overwhelmed with how sad i feel for his family.
I'm a recovering heroin addict I have 7 years clean and the overdose theory does make sense I'm very thrown off that he said to his parents that he was moving ? That's weird like why not just say hey mom I have a new girl going to spend the weekend be back the whole I'm moving out with no plan to move is odd very odd maybe he did run away but doubt it ... This is frustrating thank you ! Did it say that dogs did hit on him being there and stuff ?
I was so sad to hear John Lordan’s update last week regarding David’s remains being found. Although not the outcome any of us were hoping for, hopefully the family can find some comfort in knowing where David is and being able to bring him home to lay him to rest. To David’s loved ones should you happen to be reading this...I send my sincere condolences to you all. May you find comfort from the love of all of your supporters, as well as in the memories of the time you were able to share with David.
Idk even as someone who used heroin in the past none of the story makes any sense to me. When you start using drugs all logic goes out the window to a degree but I mean sleeping outside when you could just sleep in your car? Also why drive 2 hours away just to get high? Im sure he could get drugs locally in NJ. I'm really upset too that the police made it seem like he's just another addict who made bad choices. He's a person regardless of his past and deserves to be found especially for his family's sake. I can't imagine what they're going through.
Can you please do a video on Ben Smart and Olivia Hope? They went missing in the Marlborough Sounds in New Zealand on New Years day 1998 and police believe they were murdered although their bodies have never been found, a man was charged with their murder and is currently in jail. I just think it would be super cool to see your views on the case, I'm from Blenheim, New Zealand (the same town as them) and I love your videos so much! Your channel is my favourite xx
I'm from the area and Catonsville is right near Baltimore. That entire area is known for heroin. Baltimore is an open air heroin market. Even communities in surrounding states are effected, that's how bad it is.
Thank you so much for shedding light on these important cases. I love your videos; keep doing what you do! Also, you're so beautiful! I'm loving following your fitness journey on Instagram ❤️
Danelle, I am SO GRATEFUL You talked so much about the fact that just because he might have had a drug/alcohol problem in the past or possibly relapsed-again we don't know that for sure...That he is MISSING and that is what matters!! I pray to God he is found alive and well....
Ive had the same struggles and im telling you no herion addict leaves their car anywhere would definety be withdrawing money and would NEVEr allow there phone to die you get physically ill from withdraws and from experience he probably overdosed and was dumped somewhere
Hi Danelle, can you do a video on Savannah Greywind. I think it could bring a lot attention to Missing Murdered Indigenous Women, as an indigenous woman myself, this topic is very important to me. I know it’s an already solved case, but there are thousands of more unsolved MMIW cases that don’t get a ton of attention. It just takes the right information to get to the right person to solve a case, I think you could give a platform for some information to be found. (I hope that made sense 🙂) I really like the way you structure your videos and opinions, and you do your research. Great video btw, keep up the good work 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Regardless of the drug, he still deserves to be respected and treated like any other missing person. Nothing should change in looking for him due to that factor.
THANK YOU for pushing the respect!!! This breaks my heart. The hatred of addicts is disgusting. My best friend was murdered and people said horrible horrible things about them because they had a past history of drug use. They were clean at the time though. People are horrible sometimes. Keeping this family in my heart and hoping they get answers
I honestly feel like the overdose theory is the most plausible of all. I think him and the girl went to the uncle's property and did heroin together, and he accidentally took too much and passed away. She freaked out and used her own car that they came in to dispose of the body somewhere. That would explain for all of the other strange circumstances like his car being left behind and her having the keys, the "fresh" bottles of alcohol laying around, and her not feeling the need to bring him any supplies, etc...The girl definitely knows a lot more than she's giving up. Many junkies become great at lying through their years of experience covering up their own actions. Definitely a sad and tragic event, and my sincere condolences to his poor, poor family. That being said, another phenomenal video, Danelle. As usual, you did a great job covering all possible angles and I cannot thank you enough for the hard work you put into these. I very much appreciate your efforts to get this information out. Keep up the great work, hun! 👍🏻 ♥️
He may have overdosed somewhere and they are covering it up. If he did relapse it is easy to overdose because they go back to using what they were before and their body isn’t adjusted. Posted this before you said that lol
Thank you for humanizing this person and advocating for people to think of him with compassion regardless of him having addiction issues. It's so wrong that people commonly reduce addicts as being bad irresponsible people or people with issues who don't deserve respect or empathy. A person shouldn't be valued any differently or viewed as less of a person for struggling with addiction. Even if no foul play is involved it's still very sad and heartbreaking for his family especially for him to have met his death at such a young age.
Okay so I only found your channel last week and boy have I been missing out!! You do these cases so well and I'm sure a lot of people watching appreciate how you are so fair when talking about them, thank you for bringing light to so many of these heartbreaking cases. Can't wait to keep seeing content from you!! notifications are definitely on haha
Hi! New subscriber. I discovered got this morning before I went in to my doctor for a small medical procedure and I've been binge watching since 3pm when I got back to entertain myself during the recovery process. It is now almost 1am. You're gorgeous and amazing at story telling!
Is it possible that the girls were some kind of sex workers? And that's why David didn't tell his parents where he was going? So he was going to girl one's place but something came up and she was like "here, go to my friend's place instead". Idk, that situation seems weird to me, I have internet friends but staying with one of their friends who I don't know would never cross our minds. I kind of lean into the runaway theory though, cause why would he tell his parents he was moving out if he was only going for a weekend/week long trip? I guess he could come back and say it didn't work out with the "roommate" but I do find it odd.
I am very confused by this also. Thank you for the thorough summary. Thank you for spreading the word. I am praying we and his family find out what happened. So sad
It's always important to take a mental break! I don't know how you do it honestly- with homeschooling your kids and everything I think it's awesome you're making these videos. You are my favorite unsolved cases/ missing person cases. You are clear with your information and I really do believe in the future you will get bigger!!
UPDATE
Howard County police have confirmed as of March 23rd 2018, that they have found the remains of David Gipson Smith.
Danelle Hallan Do you know where his remains were found? Who discovered him? If you know, thank, sorry to the family for their loss.
Danelle Hallan I had a feeling he wasn't alive anymore since how long he had been missing.. I feel for the family. Thank you for the update.
You should pin this comment for us so it’s the first one we see. :)
i went to rehab with David and he was my roommate. He was a really nice guy. He had been through a lot. So sad. I wish his family could get some type of resolution.
she was probably a dealer or someone who got him the h and he probably od'ed and she freaked and probably was never at that land.
Did the rehab have doctors or was it just one of those money grab places kind of like a jail with 3 hot meals and a cot to sweat and vomit it out on or was it more like a hospital with doctors giving meds and taking vitals morning noon and night?
So sad... You get really close to people in rehab and the majority don't make it... Breaks my heart.
Being a recovering addict, I believe it was an od and they panicked and came up with a story probably with family. If he left on his own he would have sold his car.
Are there any updates? Did they ever find out what happened to him??
His parents are living a nightmare each day not knowing....please pray for David and his family.
i was in treatment with him too. he was my roommate. so sad. he was a good guy who had been through too much.
Honor and Respect
So glad you all are here to tell your story and I know I'm just a random stranger on the Internet but I'm so proud of all of you over coming your addictions and allowing yourself a better life
So glad you decided to take the weekend off! Mental health is super important and we all understand 💜 loving your fall eyeshadow!
💕💕
I thought the same thing! I stared at it like the entire video. @Danelle Please dish 💖💞😍
It is heartbreaking! The biggest chance they have is their picture being thrown out to anyone who may have seen them.
Mary O'Brien I live in EC too!!!! I grew up here. I don't remember hearing much about this either but I think there was something on Baltimore news about it
We are trying to get this on 20/20 and Dateline and any other national media outlet
Colleen Ebbe it’s insane how this just happened a few months ago and there isn’t more coverage on it! they definitely need to use airtime to focus on stories like these.
Julie Smith that would be a great way to spread the story out more!! how would we all go about getting more coverage on it?
Bless that poor family!
michelleharasty Totally agree.
Amy Paul.
Thank You! I certainly hope they r looking into The Uncle!
michelleharasty Absolutely, the fact that the girl brought her uncle into this is a huge tell.
Amy Paul
Exactly! AND he was a big guy...I think 6"4' 230lbs so she would def need help... def more than the girl involved!
That was my first thought...he OD’d and she panicked and hid his body 😢
I never knew I liked missing persons cases until I watched your videos. Your explanations are just so thorough and you're so level headed it's fantastic!
+Blue Hypo Thank you so much! That is a huge compliment!!!!❤️
i never see why an issue either an addiction or a mental problem should affect peoples point of view on missing people, i understand that people do lie about this kind of stuff but if there isn't any evidence point towards that then i don't see how it should affect the case, also great insight. Makes me love your video!!
+TrendyCole I completely agree. To me it makes them more fragile and it should be treated soooooo carefully! So heartbreaking!!
My thoughts on that are that the decision making process is affected by the use of drugs, so traditional search methods usually don't yield results.
Because sadly people who have never dealt with addiction or mental illness have sterotypes of how "those" People are.
I’m a recovering heroin addict and I’ve been clean for 5 years. I hope to god that if something was to happen to me they would not judge working my case based on my past heroin use! That’s really sucks that people do that! We are people also and deserve justice just like anyone else!
Huge congrats on your sobriety! I became addicted after my fiancé was murdered in front of me and now also have been clean several years. 💜
Totally just my opinion, no harm meant. I think he could have OD'd. The rest is a cover up story. Ugh. It's the only thing that makes sense to me.
Amy Paul same
Or it could have been a drug deal gone wrong and he was killed.
It’s a scary world 😢
I like how you do stories on lesser known cases. I'm tired of hearing about the same cases like Maura Murray.
I know right!!! Love her!! 💗
Agreed!
3 years later and I still have never heard of Maura Murray so maybe not played as much as you thought😉
@@HLJRMAI1 oh really, "Laura Mai?" Your name rings a bell...im onto you
honestly in my opinion i think the lady from ellicot killed him. i think it was a drug situation gone bad, i think when she left & came back on wednesday, she left to hide his body, or take him somewhere to get him killed. If it wasn't her, she at least knows what happened to him, they are just too sketchy.
Sierra Hildreth agree he wasn’t alive when he left her house. Someone killed him at that house.
Dolores Gonzalez yeah you wouldn't leave someone who is alive somewhere with no food in the middle of nowhere
Take care of yourself first and foremost, girl. Absence makes the heart grow fonder!
I have the best youtube family EVER. PERIOD.❤️
But my question is: if he said he was moving in with a coworker, that means he wasn't planning on coming back to his parents house even after this week he'd spent with these girls, so where was he planning to live for real afterwards? I think it's something they should look into, doesnt he have friends that he would be honest about all of this? Honestly poor family it's all really messed up
I have been thinking about this a LOT lately.
Gosh this point exactly. It's actually driving me insane - why would he say he was moving when he didn't have anywhere to stay after that weekend?
Never clicked so fast when I saw you uploaded. Just as the family were sitting down to watch a movie... Tough shit they have to wait till I've watched this haha
Rachael Beck LOL!
I am so confused by this case...what the hell was that girl thinking leaving him at empty land...was there shelter...I hope so...
This is a sad case, hopeful he'll be found and able to come home in the future or we at least find out what happened. Family deserves closure...
+Ella Gigg From what I have seen, there isn't really any shelter😣
Danelle Hallan ohhh im just wondering what the hell that girl was thinking? Thats the most confusing part of the case she basically left him in a field...
I feel like the girl is lying about something, and that she had something to do with his disappearance.
Please start a patreon so we can help you in this diffulct time, you put so much work into your videos and you deserve to be rewarded for that!
Thank you for making this video. This is my friends cousin. Btw I love how professional you speak, always saying “this is just speculation” and not making people think it may be fact. Very easy to follow the story even though it’s a confusing story you deliver it nicely.
Thank you so much! I never want to spread theories as facts so I try to make that a point! I really hope his family gets some answers soon.
I think David was killed in the first house and the rest of the story is all made up. I don't know what happened; maybe a drug deal gone wrong. Such a sad story and this happens too much. A man with a drug problem is completely written off and forgotten about. Terrible
Courtney Kolenda
Outta Curiosity, why do you think it was the first house?
Makes since, but just curious how ya came to that decision.
Like your theory! It’s a good one
killed in the house where the new acquaintance lived with her parents? and the girl just left his car outside the house? that doesnt make much sense. and he never ended up going to his friends place, the original place, so that doesnt make much sense either.
dominique007 if she was on heroin, she may have thought her story was believable when it wasnt.
@@carebearbear7688 i wonder if police searched the firsr house.
Jess B has anybody on RUclips covered this case? I’m gonna check Lord and Arts channel to see if he has. It sounds so familiar.
hollynr77 not sure, although I’ve really wanted to hear someone talk about this case, in a video. I thought they wouldn’t because it’s so recent, but this case Danelle did for this video is only a few months old, so I thought it would be worth an ask ;)
She recently covered her case!
Sounds like an interesting story! I'm gonna do some research now. She is beautiful. Hope her story gets told! Violence against women is never ok.
Overdose. Dead.
I began sniffing and went to injection. He is another victim of the disease. 😔👎🤔🤔
Rest easy, he was a victim of foul play along with being a sad statistic. 😔
Never feel bad for taking a break. You do such a great job and we appreciate how thorough you are.
I'm sorry about your husband! But I'm glad your back. We mommy's need our me time. I couldn't imagine being on RUclips that's hard work. Glad you're feeling better. Ready for the videos! 😁
I can’t shake how familiar he looks, and I live in Florida.
+Kelly B. that's always a chilling feeling. He did live there sometime in 2014! Not sure where he's ugh.
Danelle Hallan I wonder where in FL. It’s so chilling because we’re similar in age too. I could’ve met him anywhere here.
WHOA! That's wild!
michelleharasty right?! You know that feeling of “I know them, I’ve definitely seen that face” but have no idea if you actually have. It’s crazy. I’ve been searching every social media I have trying to see if he’s anywhere on them.
Beka Adams I’ve been here my whole life. I’m way down south though. So idk where in Florida he was/maybe is.
so glad you took some time! hope powell is doing better xo
He is doing the best he can! Thank you for being the sweetest💕💕💕
Whoever came up with notifications, I love you!!!!! I'm present, with a front row seat!!!!!!
+Nicole so heartbreaking😩😭
Thank you for your sensitivity towards this family and this man , we all have pasts we all deserve love and security .
I'm so sorry to hear your husband broke his hand! As a stylists that's my worst fear! Hope his hand heals perfect!
Thank you so much for speaking out against the stigma surrounding addiction! So refreshing to hear from someone I respect so much
I really wish drug abuse wasn't so taboo.
Most addiction starts with a prescription..
Not even half way through and im confused
do you think it’s possible that you can look into the John/Joyce Sheridan case? this actually happened 3 houses down from my own and it really shook up the neighborhood. cause of death was changed multiple times, it’s quite confusing. i would love to see some other thoughts about this! xx
cait oceans omg yes I second this!
This intro music is so much better! Don’t know what it was about the old one ...
I think it just didn't fit the vibe well!
Yes I agree! & the old one was so loud.
Kea Lynn yes so loud I always had to turn my volume down all the way haha but it’s a small things to deal with for an amazing video!!!!
In my country (Serbia,Balkan) is very late at night right now,but i'we been waiting for you to post a video. So thank you, after watching ,I can finally go to sleep 😁
Thank you for waiting!!!!💕💕💕💕💕
I'm so happy you're talking about this!!! I've been following this case for a while (I live super close to the area)! Thank you sm
I wanna watch this!!!!
Jo Boekweg I live in Utah
Fayth Shipman so do I! :)
Jo Boekweg
Sandy City here!
I love how respectful and caring you are towards David and his family. It's honestly a shame some people no longer think it's important to find him once they discover his history with drugs. Thank you for this video! I love your channel!
Love love love when you upload! You are so dedicated to all these cases and it's amazing to watch❤️
❤️
Hi Danelle, You did an amazing job on this. I hope your hubbie's hand is doing better. Sending you lots of hugs this week. ~Laura
Omg I've missed you!! I've watched all your videos 😩 also can you please do a video on Susan Powell? This story is heartbreaking with the two children
Makeuphuney same
I was thinking that too when Saturday came and she didnt post lol totally respect her needing a break. Just really like her videos. 💗💗
Saaaaame. I don't do Twitter though so intsa it is
The Susan Powell videos she recorded of herself at home when she was showing everything she owned that he had purchased using her name and credit... It's so haunting. She should have taken the kids and gotten out then instead of filming her belongings. Now those boys are dead and so is she. What an evil man he was,!!! Those home films can be viewed on RUclips.
Makeuphuney I make videos like this as well and if Danelle doesn't end up covering this I would :)
I love when people shed light on cases that are not well known! These people need exposure. And you tell their stories so well. LOVE your channel!!
+Tonya Davis so heartbreaking😭
I kind of agree. My brother is a drug addict and I can see him running away, mostly because he has before. But it is scary to wake up and not know where that person is. I’ve been there. I hope they can find him or at least get some closure. Such a heartbreaking story.
I honestly believe he overdosed and the girl is trying to hide that.. idk
Bri Haley that makes sense.
Idk, why wouldnt he have taken his car then?
So I think I posted a comment before about an 18 year old who went missing and was last seen at the college I went too. I believe it’s been a month or two and they still have not found him. He essentially disappeared without a trace. They even looked in nyc because they thought he might have went there. His name is Nick Practico. If they have any evidence, they haven’t release any yet. But with this story maybe the Uncle accidentally saw him and killed him. Or maybe he decided to try and walk away since the girl didn’t come back for 3 days. But when he walked away he could’ve gotten lost.
Rebecca they found him dead near campus
I love the compassion, empathy & dignity that you show towards the victims whose stories you cover. You're great at this! I!m also so excited to see your channel growing so quickly. Keep up the great work bc you have a natural talent for what you're doing!
Ahhh I get so excited when you upload!!!😭 You look gorgeous as always!!💖🌟
Thank you love!!💕
Late to your channel, but have been binge watching at work. My birthday is also August 6th!
50k!! You'll be at 100,000 by next month!
Ms Noble 64k. She’s nearly there! ☺️
You should look into Sherin Mathews she's a little girl that has been missing for week or so. From what I read it sad but I can't find much info.
I am very familiar with it!!! It is heartbreaking!
Yes! That's a good one! I think the dad had something to do with it. Gosh, I hope she is found!
So sad her little body was found :(
ItsLo90 omg
Did it say that dogs did hit on him being there and stuff ?
jessica lynch congrats on quitting and staying clean. 🙂
You're one of my favorite youtubers to cover missing person cases, you always make sure to give as much possible information as you can. love u!
holy FUCK you look good
💕
Allthingsbeaauty agreed!
I agree. My first thought was how pretty she is!
Thank you for shining some humanity on troubled missing people x
You favor Christina Applegate
I was so sad to hear John Lordan’s update last week regarding David’s remains being found. Although not the outcome any of us were hoping for, hopefully the family can find some comfort in knowing where David is and being able to bring him home to lay him to rest.
To David’s loved ones should you happen to be reading this...I send my sincere condolences to you all. May you find comfort from the love of all of your supporters, as well as in the memories of the time you were able to share with David.
one week seems like forever when my favorite youtuber doesn't post!!!😭💗 this video was definitely worth the wait💗
How am I just now watching this??!
ANOTHER great video girly. Such a bizarre case! I truly hope the family gets answers ASAP.
XXOO
Idk even as someone who used heroin in the past none of the story makes any sense to me. When you start using drugs all logic goes out the window to a degree but I mean sleeping outside when you could just sleep in your car? Also why drive 2 hours away just to get high? Im sure he could get drugs locally in NJ. I'm really upset too that the police made it seem like he's just another addict who made bad choices. He's a person regardless of his past and deserves to be found especially for his family's sake. I can't imagine what they're going through.
Caroline Marie thank you
LOVE that you focus on smaller cases! Hands down my favorite channel that covers missing persons!
Any fellow Marylanders giggle every time she said Catonsville and Elicott City? Not hating, just thought it was funny. Great vid tho! ❤
Omg thank you!! I'm local to this area and have been dying for updates
It is so hard to find them!
Your channel is my favourite xx
georgina beige have you listened to The True Crime Sisters podcast? I am literally halfway through listening to this episode! 👍🏻
I second this!! I’m from Christchurch, woohoo a fellow kiwi 😂
LordanARTS has covered this.
Wow, this case is so weird. Glad you are back 💙 Postive thoughts for your precious family!
I'm from the area and Catonsville is right near Baltimore. That entire area is known for heroin. Baltimore is an open air heroin market. Even communities in surrounding states are effected, that's how bad it is.
Also, Catonsville is pronounced Kate-ons-ville
Someone had to say it haha
No shade
LaLa Lo and El-ih-Kit city.
Glad you took some time for yourself! Sounds like a crazy ass week. Thank you for still having time to share his story.
Thank you so much for shedding light on these important cases. I love your videos; keep doing what you do! Also, you're so beautiful! I'm loving following your fitness journey on Instagram ❤️
+Mary Diamond ❤️
So important to take those mental health breaks. Glad you're back, though. You cover these cases so well, I could honestly listen to you for hours.
❤️
You're so gorgeous! ❤️ Love your makeup! 😍
Cplus3 me too! I wish I could do my makeup like that!
Yes her makeup is so pretty and she is too! I wish I could do my makeup like that as well.
Danelle,
I am SO GRATEFUL You talked so much about the fact that just because he might have had a drug/alcohol problem in the past or possibly relapsed-again we don't know that for sure...That he is MISSING and that is what matters!!
(I hope that made sense 🙂)
I really like the way you structure your videos and opinions, and you do your research. Great video btw, keep up the good work 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Regardless of the drug, he still deserves to be respected and treated like any other missing person. Nothing should change in looking for him due to that factor.
they found him dead :/
THANK YOU for pushing the respect!!! This breaks my heart. The hatred of addicts is disgusting. My best friend was murdered and people said horrible horrible things about them because they had a past history of drug use. They were clean at the time though. People are horrible sometimes. Keeping this family in my heart and hoping they get answers
What eyeshadow do you have on here?? Love it!!
So good too see you taking a mental health break, it's important to take time when you need it rather than allowing everything to build up. Go you!
I’m an ex heroin user..... it does sound like he took off with intent to use with these girls.... but then something happened
It doesn't matter if he was using drugs he is a human being and deserves to be found and found out what happened to him
Okay so I only found your channel last week and boy have I been missing out!! You do these cases so well and I'm sure a lot of people watching appreciate how you are so fair when talking about them, thank you for bringing light to so many of these heartbreaking cases. Can't wait to keep seeing content from you!! notifications are definitely on haha
miss the previous intro music 😭
I am just seeing what happens when I switch it up!!! I had so many complaints!
Same!!
Not Required me too
I don't mind it so much. It doesn't seem so loud anymore which is good.
People who complain about intro music need to get a life lmao it’s not that serious.
So sad
okay you look so gorgeous in this video. i hope everything lifts up for you babe. thanks for the upload! :) ❤

It's always important to take a mental break! I don't know how you do it honestly- with homeschooling your kids and everything I think it's awesome you're making these videos. You are my favorite unsolved cases/ missing person cases. You are clear with your information and I really do believe in the future you will get bigger!!
