- So with of Hazbin Hotel Season 1 on Amazon Prime, I gave the first 4 episodes a watch and...well there's this huge issue that takes me out of the series for me. With the series JUST starting their already a HUGE issue for me.
Where's the set-up?
Being flung straight into the Hazbin Hotel without a standard introduction to the characters/world. Being shoved heavy plot points without giving us time to breathe and connect to anything.
The question is do I stay in or check out of the Hazbin Hotel?

I agree, only having 8 episodes is really hard, i wish each character of the main cast had a filler episode so we could see a new side of them. Even if it just one episode it could make alot different to see how each character is progressing and being redemed, like with episode 6 and seeing Angel stand up to Valentino for his friends but have an actual full episode related to the problem not just having it be a side plotline. As much as i love every character and Vizipop doesn't have control over how many episodes a season can have (or at least i dont think she does) the main cast feels like theres something missing. I really love Vizipops other show Helluva boss for it, having more screen time for characters and the conflicts between them. Example Moxxie and Blitz work relationship, a lot of it revolves around Moxxie being under-minded by Blitz but Blitz has unhealthy relationships with almost everyone he meets, and after a duet the two have while high from a truth serum, they both find a new understanding of each other and promise that they would treat each other better. So personally i think that if Hazbin had more episode we would see alot more character develop and have much more feelings for the Hazbin main cast. Lovely video btw you did amazing on it
I definitely get it from your perspective. With only 8 episodes. I feel like they did good with the time they had. And I’m my mind anyway, to be fair.. post of the people watching are the millions of people who have watched the pilot. What I assumed was they skipped a recap of the characters to make time for the overall story. Since most were already familiar with the series, it’s characters, and it’s premise. Again I don’t know how it would work. Or who they really expects to be watching. But personally that’s just what it felt like to me. In the end I’m exited for season 2 and hope they get more episodes!

I HEAVILY Disagree with you. Using the moment mentioned in this video, the Suck Loser with Husker and Angel. They built an episode about it. They made a SONG about it... And it means NOTHING. It does NOTHING for the show. The ENTIRE episode could be removed, and NOTHING would feel off for episodes 5-8. They don't do ANYTHING with their 'Character Building'. At most, he gets 1 extra line in episode 6 showing his 'Friendship' with Angel. The "You did good, Kid", after Angel tells Val off. Something ANYONE else could have done with a different line.
But the ending, the ENDING! The last episode, was HORRABLE. It LITERALLY showed Alister, this all powerful demonic being, this Sinner able to take out people on the levels of the SINS themselves. Someone people learned to NEVER suck with... Is a bitch. A tiny, powerless, little bitch.
What is his powers? His has Tentacles from his back, his can spawn little powerless minions that are more annoying than Dangerous. And Grow big.... That's it. That's all. In the Pilot it was hinted he much MUCH more powerful, with MUCH more evil powers. But no. ONE attack. ONE ATTACK from a small, inferior, WEAKling angel of the LOWEST STRENGTH AND LEVEL, doing ONE attack, nearly kills him, and he was POWERLESS against him, only, at most, distracting him with cheap tricks.
The show, in rushing their last episode, made Alister into a fucking joke of a character. It literally undid EVERYTHING the last 7 episodes built up. It makes him a tiny little bitch, where VAGGIE can 1 shot and wipe the floor with his ass EASILY as a Military Trained SOLDIER compared to Adam's flailing around.
And that's just ONE of the major bad issues. There is Razzle and Dazzle, who we finally see what their powers are, to protect Charlee and... They are just dragons. Helpless, weak little Dragons.... And we never got ANYTHING with 'Keykey', the Key Cat thing that exists in the background at times.
The show is HORRIBLE rushed. And because of it, it ruins a LOT of amazing moments. Carmella is another great moment. Her struggles we see in episode 3. And suddenly boom, she is a completely different person in episode 7 as they rush to get the answers to what killed the Angel. For fucks sakes, we SEE THE FLASHBACK, and it's fucking AWEFUL! We were expecting something epic, amazing, cruel. Instead it's just... An angel appears, a High Kick happens, and boom dead... Literally The entire flashback happens in the time it takes to read that. It's poorly carographic, poorly paced, and HEAVILY badly written, cause the action we see in the flashback, does NOT match up with the EMOTIONAL Event talked about in episode 3.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!! I am somehow more impacted by the "moments" because I know and love these characters but PLEASE LET THE MOMENTS BE RELEVANT!!!!!!
What's missing is a full season of 20-24 episodes to draw out thew story and characters, but they only had 8 episodes and not knowing if a second season is coming, so yea, they needed to rush a lot of the story.
To your description: what is missing is the RUclips Pilot, and the two comics, one centered on Angel and the other “A Day in the Afterlife” (guess which character _I_ like the most, whoops) focusing on Alastor.
Plus, before… some level of scandal and/or A24 wanting them down, both Hazbin and Helluva Boss lost their instagrams that shed light into the day to day workings of all of these character’s lives. A memorable one was Husk trying to get an aesthetic shot of his lowballer with whiskey and it’s completely ruined because approx 1/100th (I’m only half joking) of the Radio Demon is in frame and the photo is corrupted with glitch effects starting from where he is “captured” on film.
What’s missing is that HH is very fast, it needs room to show the character development in show, once anything that wasn’t directly in the show couldn’t be used as a medium, because… oof you do not get to see the demon who manages to get redeemed do basically anything but sing on song.
Which also, with the breakneck speed and lack of character focus on the sacrificial lamb, now, at the end of 8 episodes, the Hotel? Redemption? That’s not _even remotely_ the plot.
The plot has something to do with the corruption of Heaven, the revenge of Lilith (for unknown reasons), a potential BBEG in a referenced character in Hazbin and Helluva, Roo, who seems to be… just primordial evil, and the fact that either Lilith or Roo is holding Alastor’s chains. I only think it’s Lilith due to some very old art before a few months ago when he was made aromantic, where he is the most idiotic smitten deer man with the character that was Lilith’s original design, and held him as a thrall-and the completely out of pocket “you’re like the daughter I never had” thing in Lucifer and Alastor’s sing off in “Hell’s Greatest Dad.”
I really hope season two slows down and that season one was more… a “part one” with the other season just being an extension.

i totally agree! honestly i think they could've gone towards something more like steven universe where each character gets a bunch of screen time and a lot more time to interact with one another, build character, get the fans attached, etc. obviously not so far as something like five seasons or whatever but still, i think instead of rushing season one like how they did, they should've figured out a way to make the characters more relatable and likeable!
Nah I love the show but definitely agree that the pacing feels… weird. When a certain character dies in the final episode, it feels very flat. It feels like the death was supposed to be funny or something with how it was set up but the reaction of the cast afterwards feels like we should take it seriously and be sad so the whole scene just feels jarring. I actually didn’t think the character was dead because it felt like the show was only half serious about it. It feels like the show is trying to make so much time for funny jokes and really awesome music that there’s very minimal time left for character development and emotionally impactful scenes. I still love the show and I’m so excited for season 2, but I worry a bit for future seasons if they don’t give characters a chance to develop fully :/
I totally agree with you I believe if they either extended the length of the episodes or added more episodes to the season the dialouge between, for example Husker and Angel would have been more impactful. And maybe more scenes with Husker in general would have been better. It does seem like they kinda just throw you in on the moment then, just in the hotel. The shows pacing is a bit fast I'll say as well and I feel f they slowed it down a bit it would have been much better. But that doesnt take away it's still pretty good in my opinion. Also awesome job on this video! Taking notes, keep at it man!
Yeah, while I enjoyed it personally-- I felt like it was going by too fast... More episodes would have been amazing-- but if there was time between each episode it probably would have given that feeling less--
Funny, I guess I agree and disagree with critics and fans who say it wasn't well-paced... like, I think it worked so well for 8 episodes -t just would have been *better* with more single-character focused episodes + "hotel guest of the week" episodes. They did a good job of painting it as hopeless, but especially without the latter, we missed out on the world-building and lore-expansion of the show that could have really fueled the character development of the main cast. I really hope the season is longer for 2 so that we get both.
i agree the series goes a little too fast and i thank either the episodes needed to be longer or there should be more filler episodes
Watching episode 1 was my first experience with Hazbin Hotel and I thought it was great. I do think the constraint of 8 episodes is brutal. Definitely having 12-26 episodes instead and having more world building and introducing the characters would have been better instead of 8 episodes covering 6 months of time BUT with Amazon’s constraint of 8 episodes I think it’s absolutely fantastic. I genuinely felt the same feelings as an adult that I hadn’t felt since I was a kid watching classical Disney films like Lion King or Little Mermaid. I describe this show as like a Disney musical but for adults.
Yea I think most of the fans don’t care because they’ve already chosen to like certain characters. Key example is Alastor fans know nothing about him but, love him because his voice is cool🤣. All they know is side comments that the creator said on a live. Or they relate to concepts like angel dust he’s abused so fans like him.
The first four episodes were a TOUGH watch. I had to pause a few times just to take a deep breath. The cringe was too much and I needed a break. BUT the rest of the season totally redeemed it for me!!! Personally, my favorite quality in any media is its ability to make me cry. What can I say, I love to cry. And episode 5 had me sobbing. So, yeah. I would say keep at it! It gets better!
Nah for me it was alastors “I’m gonna end your F’ing life” line that was the line for me 😂 it was just way to cringy

@@catherinedean8850 yes I LOVED both songs. I feel they are part of the reason why episode 4 is so good. I love it as well because it tells a captivating story, and putting it on its own, it is at least acceptable, though the technical paraneters of Angel's and Val's relationship are to be questioned. First of all, HOW did Angel get there? Why did Val gain power in the first place? What made Angel sign the contract?
You're gonna be really upset when you hear about Doctor Who, lol. Characters or actors changing has never really bothered me, I'm usually not apposed to new people having to come in to fill Characters shoes. You're allowed to not enjoy it, though, lol. I kind of like that it has a Broadway pacing, I almost wonder if it would of done better as a movie. They also should of just kept the pilot as episode one on prime, seeing as how it's still relevant to the show.
