What does being queer mean to you?
It means I can be my self without knowing what and who I am
I don’t have a perfect definition and people can help me out, Queer people love people for who they are no matter what their significant other decides to label themselves under the umbrella of sex, gender, presentation, sexual orientation etc. straight, trans, gender fluid, pansexual, etc.
Sometimes people are born with a sexual organ that does or doesn’t fit their outlook of themselves example an individual who identifies themselves as a woman as XXY and was born with a penis etc. The possibilities are endless.
There is a really interesting documentary I watched in Netflix of babies born with a different sexual organ and parents ultimately end up deciding for their child by proceeding to have then operated without the child’s consent and down the line the child ends up growing up feeling like their the opposite sex or gender
Recognize the complexity and fluidity of human sexuality. Embrace the need to love, and build relationships and identities beyond labels.

But welI, I had to answer because maybe someone who is searching will read this and find we are not all emotionally constipated, and maybe, this person needs to remember how valuable every human is, with or without label... And I sincerely hope, someday you get the courage to find yourself by questioning your own prejudices instead of trying to impose them 😉.

But you repeated it two or three times, so it sounds like an obsession. So, that was your point? ... You feel you have to say in all places how "only exist" heterosexuals, bisexuals and homosexuals because you feel we are dumb and you have to enlight us?.. Mmm... You know "queer" is not new right? You should read about Queer Theory, even the identities you accept today are recognized with a lot of help of it.

I'm asia Im currently reading a book about what queer means and in the beginning they say that summon it up to that queer can mean a bunch of different things. Its not suppose to have a single defined label but is there to twist our sense of what is normal and what is not and that it basically means different and going against the norm(Kinda). Defining the word would kinda ruin its meaning?
I'm not super educated on the matter but to my understanding queer simply means not submitting to society's gender binary. It's important to understand that sex and gender are completely different thing

This is a word that allows people to say they don't fit the heteronormative, even if they don't find themselves in one of the sexual identities we recognize today, due to their fluidity or other reasons. This is useful because it helps them to make a statement and reminds us how colorful humanity is.
Yea it basically is a label for "no labels" it's pretty necessary for me because when people come up to me and asked what my sexuality is, I don't have to come up with a thousand word essay on describing how my sexuality sometimes fluctuates and just tell them that I'm "queer" and if they need further explanations, just ask them to look up Google or just give them a link to an article about the label 'queer' or a link to this video. It's efficient, it saves time and I don't need the whole conversation to be awkwardly only about me

I support LGBT+ but i dont agree with what rowan said. Gender does exist, dont pretend that male and female isn't a thing. If you have no gender identity then thats different but dont just straight up say that gender is made up. You can argue that sexuality is made up but not gender. Female and male is a real thing. Having a Penis or a vagina is a real thing BUT you Dont have to identify with that. Just wanted to state the differences between the fact that female and male does exist and isnt made up and the freedom of opinion to choose to be neither or both or whatever you want! 😀

Half Seen nah, gender and sex are different. Sex (male and female), gender (feminin and masculine). But being a female doen't make you feminin and vice versa.

Where is the meaning??
They like who they like, love who they love, and are whatever or whoever they are. They don't want the stress of having a label claiming they're this, or that they're that, they are just human. (Also just a quick question: If you go by non binary pronouns or opposite gender pronouns, can you just say that's queer as well or do you have to say, "I'm non binary and queer." ?)
But they still have a sexuality by definition. Either they are confused and don't know yet or they don't want communicate their sexuality to others for different reasons.

pronouns don’t equal gender. so you could just say your pronouns are they/them. or different pronouns but still be queer. i don’t think you have to be non binary to use they/them pronouns. correct me if i’m wrong though. i use they/them pronouns but i’ve been doing lots of research to try and find a label for myself.

Using the word queer in reference to the term odd is very 19th century.

I mean... Languages is just putting labels on concepts so you can communicate with others. They get more specific as we get more understanding of them.
If these people don't relate to the specific sexuality/gender identities/orientations that exist, it might be because they belong to one that hasn't been identified yet or it might be that it's a specific subtype they haven't heard of yet.
Like atoms, they've technically always existed but were only named when discovered and started being communicated to other people.

I'm really stuck with what I feel is my gender and what I identify as and after this I think I might know but I'm still stuck but honestly I let people call me whatever because I don't care and I sometimes feel like I'm not a girl or I'm not a boy and I'm just neither so I let people call me whatever.. but I am not sure if there is a label for what I feel that I am and this kind of opened my eyes a little ✨
So if someone doesnt identify with any label including queer are they hyper queer. 4 Billion years of evolution and we somehow ended up at this.

I think that there shouldn't be a label for kind of sexuality.... Because why should anybody care whom you are in love with? I think the idea of this came from reproduction... Because a female and a male can reproduce and that's what people identified as nature so the idea of a male and a male or a female and a female relationship seemed to them as something against the nature.... If you know what I mean. But these two things are totally different because love is more than just reproducing that's why I think that there shouldn't be a label like being gay or straight or whatever... That should not be significant.

Labels can make people more comfortable in who they are. When I took on a label it made me so happy because I was finally able to put a word to what I was feeling.

Thank you. I'm older, and when I was in middle and high school, calling someone "queer" was a horrible insult. I've always had a hard time saying it. Kind of like the "n" word. Thanks for helping me understand it's meaning and that it's not necessarily a bad word.

Welp, learned absolutely nothing because, well, there's nothing. There's literally nothing, no definite answer. I want to learn but there's literally nothing to learn because queer from what I've just watched means nothingness. So much confusion. So does queer mean outsider. I don't want to offend anyone but it's very very confusing.
Queer is basically an LGBTQIA+ term that people can identify as when they don't have or want a specific label.
They like who they like, love who they love, and are whatever or whoever they are. They don't want the stress of having a label claiming they're this, or that they're that, they are just human.
I personally identify as queer because I don't really know how else to label my sexuality.

That’s okay take your time. I don’t know your situation, so I don’t know what may be affecting you. What I do know is that there are other stories I’ve read up on, where people have said that because of our heteronormative society, they felt that it was wrong to go all the way and say they are gay. Again I don’t know if this is it, but you could just be bi, and just shift towards women a lot more. Just think of it as a spectrum, bi and pan in their simplest terms just mean that you can like any gender, but you can always shift, such as nearly to the point where you’re gay, but still liking a few men. It takes time but, I hope you’ll figure it out eventually!

A lot of negative replies here so I want to add something! I’m queer and I identify as this because it’s an umbrella term meaning “not straight or not cisgender”. I’ve always felt fluid with my sexual orientation and gender identity so being queer allows me to like who I like and feel what I feel without worrying about whether or not I’m fitting into a specific box. So to anyone uncomfortable or upset about the usage of the term queer, it literally has nothing to do with you. Mind your own. 💖💗💕🌺🍒

The label queer simply means not straight. Most people who are queer aren't bisexual. Just respect people's labels.
They say queer because 1. they are tired of trying to figure out their sexuality or gender. 2, there is a lot of bi-phobia in the LGBT+ community and to be accepted they go by queer. Or 3, there are a lot of labels (not saying that’s bad) but you arnt always bi and go by queer you could be pan or wlw or mlm and still go by queer

queer to me means non-normative, non-conformative ... we are not comfortable with the identity of the lgbt part but we are definitely not heterosexual..some can still be said confused but mostly we are intelligent..we discover ourselves and research more..

I think I’m mostly straight. I’ve only dated one guy before but it didn’t work out. But a little part of me likes everyone. I honestly want to go Pansexual.
So queer means "none of the above".
After a couple years of discovering my sexuality, I finally landed on the word queer/ pan to describe my sexuality. I didn’t like the blocks that the word gay or bi came with so I wanted more of a umbrella term. Sometimes people ask me how gay I am, and unfortunately saying queer doesn’t suffice so I say 90% gay 10% straight just to make it easier for other people... lol.
I've seen people saying queer is a slur, is it true?
So for those who want equality, and be treated " JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE " is looking for a label?
