- Deurgists would argue Deurge was better than woyane. Of course, like anyone else Duerge had done some few goods such as stopping the invasion of Somalia, illiteracy elimination campaign and reforestations. But, Mingestu established undemocratic, brutal regime in which there was no rule of law, there was no room for different views or alternative political path ways. So who ever replaced this cruel regime naturally would expect to be loved or accepted by Ethiopians. But this had not happened? then one should ask- Why woyane is equally hated by the majority of Ethiopians? Part of the answers for this questions are these:
1 although woyne get rid off the evil deurge regime, it established a system where non-tegree Ethiopians made to feel second citizen this feeling lead to hate and anger which is awaiting a right time to burst out. Equally woyne established a system where tegres feel they are citizen number one and evidently they managed to control the economy through kindred (kinsman ship ), there is no shortage of evidence that tegres have no problem to open business to get government services and benefits. This is because the whole structure controlled by them at list this is how the non-tegrees regard the situation. this view create hate to woyne.
2- in addition, woyne in its first 8 years campaigned against Ethiopianism this was an attack on the pride of Ethiopian nationality this makes the majority of people to suspect as to whether really woyne is Ethiopian by heart or slave of shabia so this also has lead or brought about a hate towards woyane
3-indeed from the very bigning woyane work hard to create disharmony and disunity among ethiopia's ethnic groups in particular worked hard to creat deep enemity between orom's and amhars;This divide and rule tactic hated by many. of course, at one point the people of amhara were prime target of woyne and some oromos of wollega and muslim oroms from Arusi and harara collaborated in this targeting of the amhars and in few cases against Gurages. Few years latter the people of oromo have become the target of woyanes. As a result oromos everywhere started to hate woyane.
Final note: Any woyne supporter can argue that what we have is Ehadeg not woyane, for us there is no difference between ehadeg and woyne as there had never been any difference between deurge and Esepa. Also woynes would argue that every one is self governing, there is no tegree domination or unfair favourism; well woyanes expexted to say and would say that. But it should be us the non-tegrees who should say there is no favorism not woyans , secondly, non-tegree ehadeg officials be it Tolsa, asefa, deemamo they are serving ehadeg and through ehadeg they are serving woyane therefore, calling the names of Oromo , amhara gurage etc as ehadeg does not make us to feel we are not discriminated against

What happened to Abuna Theophilos was unforgivable (among other atrocities) and whoever ordered it, whether it was Mengistu or someone else in the Derg regime, will be judged for it later.

The fact is that Col Mengistu H/ Mariam loves his country & was a true leader of Ethiopia though some mistakes. He did not betray his country but could not do much as he wished since internaional enemies were beyond his control. Its much better that he survived than being humiliated like Sadam or Gadafi. He lost the war not to weyane or shabia BUT to the midle east (the arab) & cold war (the west) due to geo politics & political ideology. Any how, both Eritreans & Ethiopians are suffering more under shabia and weyane respectively than the Derg time.
Do you seriously mean that? Are you deluded into thinking this inhumane, hostile killer is your "savior" ?
