@@HondaSnowblowerEnthusiasts311 I only bought it because I live in a pie shaped lot on the edge of the city. Everything just blows right in, and I have to clear the entire corner of the crescent so I can get my oldest child who is in a wheelchair on the long wheelchair bus that comes. So beyond my driveway, I'm clearing 20' of street infront of my driveway and 2-3 houses beside me. The Poulan 30" 254 is an OHV engine, runs well, just not up to the task for all of that.
Two is always better, thanks man! Great machine I have a 1332 w/elec start amazing machine I can throw snow over my house to the back yard with it, great for Buffalo Ny winters. Snow is coming this week.
No offense to you, as I just bought a HSS1332A 2 weeks ago and have been using it. Well worth the cost! It's a monster, structural braced in the front auger system. It is simply built better. Took a bit to get adjusted to the controls from my 254 Poulan 30" snowblower. But it's a beast. With proper maintaince changing oil, lube, etc. I should never have to worry about it or buying another machine in my lifetime. Bought a commercial series Honda lawnmower at that same time, saved $2,000 Canadian dollars, as everything is going electric. I have a cordless Milwaukee weed wacker, blower and brush, but never going electric on a snowblower.
@HondaSnowblowerEnthusiasts311 I read that in the snowblower forums doing my research upon purchase. It will mess up the cogs on the hydrostatic transmission for turning. 🫡 Looking forward to the video on it though.
The only thing I wish these snowblowers had is a primer bulb to assist with starting on really cold days, but I guess the electric starter could help with that.
Most Hondas are easy to start even if very cold. Choke has to be adjusted correctly mostly. for more answers check here facebook.com/groups/180228506224122
Currently watching and after spending $3,699 + Tax purchasing the 1332ATD Honda snowblower I’m kinda regretting it. It’s a great machine but winters haven’t been the same in New England and using it 1-2 times a year i am second guessing on why I purchased this machine. Warranty is almost up on my new machine with over 2 hrs on the meter. I wish we got winters like we did 10 years ago but we don’t. If we lived out west I’d be thrilled to own this
I'm debating between the Ariens PLATINUM 28 RAPIDTRAK SHO Model #921057 or the Honda HSS928ATD. I get wet slushy snow at times, too, and my current two stage Simplicity Snow Away 7 gets clogged, and I'm tired of it. I did think about buying a single stage for the slushy heavy snow also. Any thoughts or recommendations?
I’ve had a Ariens 926 for 20 years at my main house with a paved driveway. It hasn’t skipped a beat. Just picked up a new HSS928ATD, for my cabin. Having a hilly gravel driveway, the auger housing adjustment sold me. I’ve only used it twice and I’m disappointed. Pros, motor is quite/smooth, key start, hydro drive/infinite speed and joy stick chute control. Cons; handles and controls are low. I’m 6’ and feel hunched over with my arms fully extended down running it causing my left/auger hand to cramp up. Controls aren’t intuitive, even with tracks seems to get knocked off course constantly, so one hand operations isn’t really possible to free up the other to run the speed or chute. Machine seems underpowered, bogging down in 4” of somewhat wet snow and at the end of the driveway. Not positive if it’s underpowered or the small discharge chute just backs things up. Need to crawl along on the first full pass. You give up a lot of mobility with the tracks and it was still spinning at the end of the driveway, so why did I get tracks??? The skid shoe design is absolutely stupid. They get hooked when backing up. Now I know everyone is going to say to lift it up when backing but if you have it set to the height you want now you have to reset the height and there is no way to index it. I’ve ordered skids for the side of the bucket and I’m gonna throw those ridiculous ones out. Hopefully they help a little. Don’t make the same mistake I made, go orange! Test drive a rapidtrak!
Honestly, for equal money, I'd rather have an HS than the equivalent current new HSS model. It's because the HS/Early HSS models were just simpler, manual chute crank, no steering, less to break and simpler to fix. I haven't used a more modern Honda blower, and I'm sure that those automated features are very nice when they're working, but it's more complexity and more potential points of failure. I'd rather steer the machine myself and crank the chute handle in exchange for having an simpler, easier to repair machine.
One way to turn the older models is put your hip in between the handles and push with hip to pivot turn. Handles on the older models are lower as per your earlier video. You’re almost walking backwards in the turn. Easy on your back.
@@HondaSnowblowerEnthusiasts311 the HSS is garbage compared to the older models. Impeller housing is thin as paper, lacks power, clogs easily…just not worth what they are asking these days honestly. It’s nice still, if you don’t mind spending some time modifying it, by adding some extra lining to the impeller housing and chute, it’ll make the machine at least 80% better. Still doesn’t have the same power as the older models though.
@@michaelhefford6420 agree the quality is down and all the bells and whistles means more issues down the road. Thanks for watching. I'll always keep my old 80's.
@@michaelhefford6420They are built to run lean to meet emissions. However, you can easily jet it .03 more, altitude is a key factor here thou, to get more power. However, the 19 ft lbs of torque from the GX390 happens at below 3600 rims, so increasing revs won't get you more power. Hp/torque curves are posted on the snowblower forum for this engine. Jetting also ruins your warranty (if you are within), afterwards you can, but you don't want to run rich either, gas blowing past your seals.
Maybe the older HS models. Unfortunately the newer HSS models are not built to last. just my opinion. have worked on so many and listen to dealers and Honda techs every day.
Two of the really good features is 1. It comes with a Honda GX engine - the best small engine. 2. It comes with hydrostatic transmission and not the sloppy drive disc/wheel that most others use. Definitely worth the money if you can afford it.
In my opinion, ALL Honda snowblowers should have electric start and heated grips. Even the cheap Toro's and Ariens have those features. Paying all that $$$ for Honda's and not having those features, is a huge kick in the nuts too me
I think Honda wants to give people a $250 less choice on the electric start. In all the years doing this a tuned up Honda starts on 1st or 2nd pull but i like ES also because I have bad shoulders. Just turn key like a car is so nic.e Thanks for watching.
You missed the best feature. Hydrostatic transmission. That makes the Honda’s worth more than the competition. No stopping to shift when you’re going forward. Easy to go from forward to reverse. Love how you can adjust on the fly the speed to the snow depth. I think on other snowblowers they get a lot of belt wear from always engaging the belt multiple times forward and reverse.
No snowblower is worth (to me) over $3000! I can't see paying that kind of money for all that glamore! You can have your fancy chute controls and battery powered electric starter. I would rather have a solid, dependable older machine with mechanical steel control rods and a good quality built Tecumseh motor. Honda makes the best motorcycles on the road, but They get way too much for a snowblower.
agree. i have 2 HS80's that cost 300 each used. they are both over 30 years old. Honda snowblowers can last 30-50 plus years so $3k is a good investment. Plus after 30 years you can sell for same price you bought for. High resale value. thanks for watching.
Depends on the year. Older Honda’s are worth whatever someone is asking for them. I’d never buy another new one. Quality is gone downhill a lot, not to mention less power, at least the Canadian models. I think they changed something in the last 10 years, not sure if it’s emission related, hearing related or what, but they have less power than previous models.
Thanks for info. I know some owners are changing the jet in carburetor to get more power out of it. depends on your elevation whether you go up or down on jet size. most ly up to about sea level to about 6500' and then down from 7000 feet up. we have members at the 9000 or high foot levels. thanks for watching.

"Having one is great but having 2 is better" 😁 Very well put.
Thanks for watching. I have several backups.
Best Honda Snowblower mechanic out there and now the best Salesman for these snowblowers. Keep up the great videos young man. 👍
Ha. thanks. I'm not the best. Just okay. Working on about 500 of these has helped.
A very helpful video. I’m considering buying one of these right now! 🇨🇦
Test drive each model at dealers. also suggest you check out Ariens the same way. Test drive.
It's alot of money, but well spent IMO. On top of that, can finance a portion of it or all if you want.
