    Love these types of videos! The difference in density I believe is to compliment their respective headsizes. Denser on the 100 to minimize any loss of control and more open on the 98 to maximize its sweetspot because of its smaller head and thinner beam.

    • @time410s
      @time410s  Год назад +1

      Great point! As I think about it, though, I see it more as countering the headsize. I find it ironic the smaller one opens up the string pattern that much. I would personally just prefer the additional density.
      But the racket plays well. It just makes me lean towards the standard pure aero when I look at details such as this.

      Interesting take. I personally tried 98 only and it feels dampened (what I like) but kinda stiff. The balance is great, but overall it feels lite boardy and I thought it’s because of the string pattern. Might be just strings itself or the tension.

    My son who used to have a head speed pro auxetic which is very controlled 18x20 had an easy transition to Pure Aero 98 16x20. He was actually at home with it from the first shot -really easy transition. I did not expect that coming from Head to Babolat. While he tested the Pure aero 100 2023 and the difference for him is night and day. He didn’t like the pure aero 100 especially on the backhand.

    Awesome attention to detail. Not unlike your observation about the pattern of the 16x20 Vcore 95 being more open than the Ezone 98. It's like the manufacturers are trying to tame the inherent power of their larger frames by tightening the pattern of the sweet spot. And conversely, increase the pop of the more control oriented, smaller frames by opening their pattern. Also goes to show that, at least in those frames, a 16x20 is not really a tight pattern in the way that the 18x19 pattern is in e.g. a TFight ISO 305.

    • @time410s
      @time410s  Год назад

      Thank you! Yes, these are the kinds of reasons that make such observations so interesting to me. It's like the string pattern is trying to undo or make up for something else then running with the marketed idea and taking it a step further with the pattern. I also really wonder, would it be THAT different? It's kind of crazy to me that it would be necessary to open up the PA98 pattern more than the PA 100. It's only 2 inches smaller with 1 extra cross. What's the point if it ends up being more open, comparatively? I know it's still different but that detail specifically is funny to me considering the supposed intention of the racket.

    If you have a 2020 Pure Aero VS lying around, would love to see a string density comparison with the new 98! Side by side from my eyes, I see it slightly more denser on the new 98.

  • @goldencalf5144
    @goldencalf5144 Год назад +1

    Interesting. I prefer the feel of string patterns like on the PA98 where the crosses are spaced wider near the edge of the frame. I find that when all the strings are bunched towards the centre (like with the 100), I get a mushy feel off the stringbed.
    I observed something similar to you comparing the Prestige mid (93sqi) to the Pro Staff 85. Even though the Pro Staff has a much smaller head size, the string pattern is more open than the Prestige. I had a much better feel with the Pro Staff and it felt a lot more powerful as well despite the smaller head. With the prestige, I could not tell when I was hitting the sweet spot. The Pro Staff gave me a nice feeling of crushing the ball when I hit the sweet spot.

    • @time410s
      @time410s  Год назад

      You might be onto something. I'd imagine more density might struggle to pocket as easily but also would dampen the sensations. Either way it is a less malleable bed at the same tensions but even lower, it can be stiffer in the sense that relative to it's tension, it's still less "elastic"
      But I can't necessarily confirm a mushy lack of feel sensation from denser spaced patterns but I can get down with that theory.

    What is more important for the directional control, the density in the mains or in the crosses? Same question for spin, I know the mains are the ones snapping back, so if the mains are more open, in theory the pattern is more spin friendly right?

    • @time410s
      @time410s  Год назад

      I feel like a combination of tighter mains with more open crosses would be more spin friendly than open mains and tight crosses. Mostly because of the friction and tension from the crosses resisting snapback.
      As for directional... That's hard to say. You might want a balance because if the tension isn't pretty even between both, it will pocket strangely.

    The pure aero 98 has a lighter head and that also contributes to giving greater spin, in addition the 100 has greater weight in the head which gives it less control and more power; Therefore for me there is no doubt: greater control and spin with the 98.

    • @time410s
      @time410s  8 месяцев назад

      probably true. Don't you also think the more open pattern helps? It has more strings, yes, but I mean the strings are much more spaced apart in the sweetspot area as well. Much more string movement from the 98.

    • @cladimarce
      @cladimarce 8 месяцев назад +1

  • @leventeyuboglu4501
    @leventeyuboglu4501 Год назад +2

    98 has more strings at the very ends so those 2 additional strings alone can reduce the movements of the mains. may be thats why it is more open all around to compensate that. (it may also be the other way, can be tighter on the 100 to add some control which other wise can be unplayable racqet?) I am just thinking, all around homogeneous pattern can make it less demanding, no? I demoed the aero 100 and I never been sure where ball was going despite the tighter string on the middle. I have pure drive 100 and dunlop fxtour 98, both 16x19 but strings spacing almost same as pavs and pa100 that we are talking here, fxtour giving more control, pd giving more spin and power.

    • @time410s
      @time410s  Год назад

      It's good thinking! I do feel though that far down away from the sweetspot, the string spacing there matters so much less for spin than it does right around the sweetspot where the ball might be contacting directly. It all matters, for sure, but less as you move away from sweetspot at least for string movement.

    Wait so which one has more control? I watched it twice but you didn’t specifically answer which one produces more control. Babolat says it’s their 98 but studies from channels like yours say that the 100 was designed for more control.

    • @time410s
      @time410s  Год назад

      Honestly the video is asking the question but not answering it directly. And from personal experience I can't say for sure just yet. I'd need more time. Certain things about both imply they have more control than the other so the point is to challenge babolat on their marketing a little bit as well as the conventional wisdom.
      However, I might say the pure aero 98. Even with the more open spaced pattern, there is a slight reduction in power and trampoline effect from the extra cross string and smaller head.
      I should try it again. It's a very good racket but I figured I'd pick the EZONE over it but now I think I might pick the 98. Long story but it makes sense 😂
