This was such a great video. Loved the whole layout, your editing and film work is honestly staggering! Thanks for the great info on prong collars too, it helps put things into perspective for me as a casual dog owner and nerd. Looking forward to more! :)
Great great explanation!!! Especially the "high drive dogs sometimes react with stress and frustration on figuring things out all by themselves " is exactly what I experience with my Mal-GSD Mix. He gets really frustrated when I try to purely free shape things with him and he can't figure out quickly what I want and also just stopping a session and withholding the reinforcer freaks him out, while using leashpressure is totally fine for him. So thank for that video!
Okay that dachshund in his little wheels is amazing, I love it when people make sure to help these animals carry on with their lives like normal rather than euthanasia ❤ they still deserve to live their best lives! I love watching your vids because they are so detailed when it comes to the info side of things
Your videos and you are phenomenal!! Thank you! My request is teaching contact heel from day one: all the steps you use and your thoughts as to if a 10 month old Lab who has been conditioned to the prong would benefit from it’s use to teach it. Thanks!
Hi, great video. I use a prong but am interested in seeing more to make sure I'm doing it correctly- loves your video, amazing dog and training. I'd love to also see the video you mentioned that Jas put online. Went to link but don't see it. Help! And thanks again!!
I LOVE the idea of making dogs sensitive to collar pressure. That's my goal every time and it still amazes me how sensitive dogs are to shifts in just the weight of the lead and no "active" pressure from me.
So... What you basically mean is if you haven't conditioned the behaviours with neg reinf with a prong you shouldn't use it for pos punish for failing to perform those behaviours. You're basically saying what Michael Ellis teaches about ecollars. I've never heard that before in regards to this tool. Would you say this applies to other aversive tools like slips?
I do not agree with the use of prong collar unless it's absolutely necessary. And so far, no one was able to give me a good reason on why it might be absolutely necessary. You are the first one, with your great, clear and very explicit explanation to make me understand why it might be useful in some specific cases. So, thanks a lot for that as it allows me to expand my perspective.
A flat collar can also be used in an abusive fashion, it all depends on the person/asshole at the other end of the leash, all training tools can be used in a punitive manner.
Pat what are your thoughts on using a prong collar vs a slip collar in bitework when the dog is working in drive? I have an APBT and the prong pressure seems to amp him up more in bitework and it works against us. We've very recently switched to the slip collar and I've noticed a difference.
Yeah the prong could be over stimulating for sure. Typically the slip is more of a calming tool. It can help a lot with concentration. So it sounds like for your dog you’re on the right track.
How would you advise someone with weak hands to use a prong with her physically strong Police bred GSD. She [the dog] finds walking slowly VERY frustrating, but sometimes we have to follow a SLOW moving flock of sheep down the road, until an open gate lets them get off [the sheep move for cars, but not dogs on leads]. This is in Scotland. I also use a HS 2.25, which actually dosn't penetrate her thick, dense undercoat. But to go up to the 3.0 creates either too tight or too loose [bigger links] fit. She's better off lead, But, with sheep about, and on a road, I attach a lead.
yeah nah, if you want it to be legal you have to at least be approved to use it. A licence or something other wise average fuckwit joe can just go buy it on Ebay. Nah, the reason we have dog trainers is because we can't train our dogs, society isn't gonna use this tool properly. My compromise is need a licence to use something like this, but yeah but still don't agree with the premise entirely.
This is by far the clearest and most concise explanation I’ve seen on this topic 👏🏻 Loving the content here (and of course the podcast too!)
Thanks mate. Much appreciated.
So many people from trainers, friends, shelter Directors disapprove of the prong collar. This explanation will help me discuss the topic. TY!
well done mate. bravo
Will be sharing this with a lot of people, education is key.

Thanks fir the great feedback. I really enjoy making the videos so it’s great news to hear they are being well received.
Love watching you train!!! So much to learn from just watching people!
Watching, judging, look at the baby look at the baby. (Please tell me you get that reference?)

My pleasure! Sounds like your dog is the perfect use case for this tool.
Beautifully explained. Love this video.
Thanks! We need to catch up soon!
Very well said ! Greetings from Toronto
This guy is obviously good, but i have never felt more overwhelmed about dog training more than after watching his videos. Especially this one LOL
Your editing skills just keep getting better
Thanks!! It’s a bit of an obsession at the moment.
Val! Don’t miss out!
I know right! She nearly didn’t come.
I love how you leave in the parts of training where it doesn't go perfectly. Showcases how you train better than just talking about it.
Yeah I think that’s important. Especially when I’m showcasing how to use a tool that helps when things go wrong.

Enjoy!
Great info thanks

My pleasure!
That windscreen wiper transition though... 🤗.
Also, important information. Hopefully it can help change some people's mind.
I’m always looking for a way to spent 2 hours drawing a mask on frame by frame. 😜
Love explanation.
Oh, and could you tell me what camera setup you have? That might be too broad a question I'm not sure but your videos look slick 🤌
