When you catch, but then release down the slot after 4, is that not a mini-floating anchor? I feel like Ive gotten mixed messages on how much the position of the hand on 4 should really be enforced as the position the hands stay in when anchoring for a "standard" post+anchor.
Catching the tension is different than posting. Posting is when the hand finds a plane in space for each partner to stretch away from. A post does not need to happen on 4, it just needs to happen prior to the anchor on 6/8 (still there are exceptions where you can wait to post until 1 and create a hitch action). I describe a floating anchor as both the lead and follow moving in the same direction until the final anchor action.
@@keeriganruddWCS Thanks for the response! Your differentiation between catching tension and posting makes sense. I guess I have made my default to catch tension on 4 and post(fix the hand without letting it go further) on the & after 5. And Ive gotten some feedback thats not necessarily the best default (might make anchor styling more difficult for the follow).
Try to start finding tension even earlier than 4. Musically and on average a post makes the most sense on 5, but nothing wrong with it being on 4. Think of your “post” being made of rubber though, it is malleable and can flex in both directions as needed, so if your follower needs a little more space move your body to allow it.
It’s more of a timing issue- we have to quickly jump into recording this so I hand my phone off to a student. For formal instructional videos I have a better setup.
Thank you both for taking the time to teach us about west coast swing
You all do such an amazing job dancing. Its so cool to watch. Been watching your videos all week. Has me searching for a swing class here in Raleigh 😊
Can you guys go over the beautiful spins shown in your YT shorts? I think those look amazing ❤❤
